Opening hours and closed days

Bunshokan’s ordinary hours are 09:00–16:30. It closes on the first and third Mondays, or the following day when these are public holidays, and on 29 December–3 January. A notice extended hours to 18:30 on 4–14 August 2026. This extension applies only to those dates.

What can I see at Bunshokan?

Staircase stained glass and auditorium ceiling

The staircase landing’s stained glass features laurel decoration. Restored plaster ceiling designs in the auditorium include Yamagata specialities such as safflowers and cherries; look up to find the patterns.

How to get to Bunshokan

Walk about 30 minutes from Yamagata Station to Bunshokan’s main entrance. Alternatively, take an ordinary bus via city hall to Shiyakusho-mae, then walk about one minute.
