Compare five consecutive days of regional travel
For repeated eligible limited express journeys towards Tottori, Okayama or Takamatsu, compare the actual ticket total with this five-day pass. Dates separated across a longer trip may not fit its consecutive-day validity. Kansai Wide Excursion is a different product with different eligibility and days.
Scroll the table sideways if it does not fit your screen.
| Validity | Adult (JPY) | Child aged 6–11 (JPY) |
|---|---|---|
| 5 consecutive days | 12,000 | 6,000 |

Original passport, entry status and child age
You need a passport issued by a government other than Japan and Temporary Visitor entry status. Japanese nationals are not eligible, including those with overseas permanent residence. Bring your original passport for collection and carry it while travelling. A pass is personal, and overlapping purchases of the same pass for the same person are not allowed.

The current Japanese conditions assess the 6–11 child band when payment is made. One adult or child pass holder may accompany up to two children aged 1–5 free. A third child, a younger child occupying their own reserved seat, or a child travelling alone needs a child pass. Infants under one travel free. Check the seller’s age option as well.

Consecutive calendar days, not rolling hours
Validity runs from 00:00 on the chosen first day to 24:00 on day 5, Japan time. Collecting or boarding late on day one does not move the expiry time. After exchange, the start date and pass type cannot be changed.
Source: Current Japanese Kansai Wide transport conditionsSource: JR West Kansai Wide English prices, purchase and use guide
If already travelling across midnight on the final day, the fare element continues until leaving the station and the train-charge element until leaving that train. This does not give a new day of unrestricted travel.

Agency exchange orders and direct-JR collection are different
An agency MCO or E-MCO is an exchange order, not the gate ticket. Exchange it within three months of issue and no later than the travel date at a location accepting this pass and purchase channel. Paper MCOs go to a counter; E-MCOs can use a supported counter or passport-reading machine. A passport-reader symbol alone does not establish support for your order.
Source: Current Japanese Kansai Wide transport conditionsSource: JR West Kansai Wide English prices, purchase and use guide
Direct JR-WEST ONLINE TRAIN RESERVATION (WEST-TR) collection requires the reservation number, your chosen four-digit identification number, the physical payment card and original passport. Machine collection needs an IC-chip passport; otherwise use a counter. Virtual and numberless cards are not accepted for the direct-JR purchase procedure. These requirements must not be substituted for an agency order’s documents.

Unlimited seats versus six machine bookings
Eligible Ordinary Car reservations have no overall use-count limit. Reserve before boarding at a supported machine or JR counter. After six machine bookings, use a counter for the seventh and subsequent reservations. This is not a six-journey limit.
Source: Current Japanese Kansai Wide transport conditionsSource: JR West Kansai Wide English prices, purchase and use guide
Only direct WEST-TR purchase supports its pre-collection reservation procedure, for up to six trains. Agency MCO/E-MCO customers exchange first, then reserve locally. Do not apply direct-JR online functions to a seller’s voucher.
Source: Current Japanese Kansai Wide transport conditionsSource: JR West Kansai Wide English prices, purchase and use guide
Missed trains, seat-only services and extra accommodation charges
All-reserved trains have no non-reserved cars. If you miss a booked service, reserve a seat on a later train. Standing is only available on services that offer that arrangement and are full when the reservation is requested; it is not permission to board every full train.
Source: Current Japanese Kansai Wide transport conditionsSource: JR West Kansai Wide English prices, purchase and use guide
Green Cars, private compartments and Special Rapid A-seat need the applicable separate charge tickets. Sanyo Shinkansen S Work cars and Sunrise Seto/Izumo, including Nobi Nobi seats, are excluded. Check the specific accommodation before boarding, not just whether the station lies inside the map. Lost or stolen passes are not reissued.

Shin-Osaka–Okayama Shinkansen and wider conventional lines
Sanyo Shinkansen coverage is Shin-Osaka–Okayama. Kyoto–Shin-Osaka is the excluded Tokaido Shinkansen; Okayama–Hakata Sanyo and the Kyushu Shinkansen are also excluded. The same station pair can have different coverage by train type.
Source: Current Japanese Kansai Wide transport conditionsSource: JR West official coverage map — Kansai WIDE Area Pass
The conventional-line map extends towards Yura/Tottori, Tsuruga and Maibara, Tsuge, Shingu, Wakayamashi/Kishi, Soja/Uno and Utazu–Takamatsu. Eligible Kyoto Tango Railway, Wakayama Electric Railway and Chizu Express sections are shown separately. Check the actual map boundaries; reaching Tsuruga does not grant Hokuriku Shinkansen travel.

Local JR buses: show the pass, keep it out of the fare box
Eligible West Japan JR local route buses within the area are included; Kanazawa-area services and highway buses are excluded. Take one numbered ticket per traveller on boarding. On leaving, show the pass to the driver and put only the numbered ticket in the fare box, not the pass.
Kansai Airport station versus Terminal 1 exchange counter
At Kansai-airport Station, use the second-floor JR ticket office (Midori-no-madoguchi / みどりの窓口), not the Nankai Railway gates on the same floor. Recorded JR office hours are 05:30–23:00. Bring the order and original passport, and specify the start date. Only use a PASSPORT-marked machine if it supports your E-MCO.

The Terminal 1 exchange counter is a separate location: 1F South, 08:00–20:00, without general train-ticket sales. Do not use its hours for the station office, or the station office’s hours for the terminal counter.

Separate travel-service and agency counters
Shin-Osaka Travel Service Center is on the third floor opposite the Shinkansen Central Gate, 08:00–22:00 daily. NTA TiS Kyoto is in front of the Central Gate, 09:00–17:00 daily. TiS Osaka’s visitor counter is in front of the Central Gate, 08:30–20:30, with different hours from its general travel-consultation desk.

Oversized luggage on the Sanyo Shinkansen
For luggage with three dimensions totalling more than 160cm and up to 250cm, reserve a seat with the required oversized-luggage space. The reservation itself has no additional fee; bringing it without the required reservation incurs a JPY 1,000 fee.
Source: JR West current Shinkansen luggage guideSource: JR Central current oversized-luggage conditions (Japanese)
Trial non-reservable deck lockers on some 16-car trains do not remove that seat-reservation requirement. If the booked train is missed or the luggage space is full, choose another train with the required reserved space, not the next non-reserved car. This Shinkansen system is not the same reservation requirement for conventional trains such as Haruka; store luggage without blocking aisles.

JR Shikoku gates and dated station maps
On JR Shikoku sections, including Takamatsu, use staffed gates and show the pass instead of an automatic gate.

Unexchanged orders, unused issued passes and refunds
For an unexchanged agency order, contact the original seller. The operator refers order refunds within one year of issue to the issuing agency, but the seller’s actual deadline and fee are package-specific.
Source: Current Japanese Kansai Wide channel-specific refunds
An unused pass exchanged from an agency order can be refunded at a designated exchange counter before validity starts or within the unexpired valid period. The fee is 10% of the JPY selling price, rounding down amounts below JPY 10, with a JPY 220 minimum. Direct WEST-TR purchase has separate conditions, including a JPY 560 fee; check its processing location and first booked-train deadline.
Source: Current Japanese Kansai Wide channel-specific refunds
Once used, the pass is not refundable. Its conditions do not provide pass-price refunds for suspensions or delays. An agency-order cancellation is a separate contract, not an operator promise.

Choose the basic five-day package and check seller cancellation
On the English Trip.com page, select “JR Pass Kansai Wide Area (5-day)” for the pass described here. Sightseeing bundles for Wakayama, Tottori, Kyoto Tango or Kinosaki have separate inclusions and conditions; they are not part of the basic pass. Exchange the seller’s electronic voucher for a physical rail pass before boarding.
Source: Trip.com English basic five-day package and seller conditionsSource: Current Japanese Kansai Wide transport conditions
The reviewed basic package gives 90 days from booking to redeem the voucher. JR separately requires exchange within three months of issue. Meet both deadlines; voucher redemption once does not limit the issued pass to one train journey.
Source: Trip.com English basic five-day package and seller conditionsSource: Current Japanese Kansai Wide transport conditions
The seller allows free cancellation before 23:00 on the expiry date only while the ticket has not been activated or reserved. From that time the cancellation fee is 100%, and partial refunds are unavailable. For a discounted booking, the fee is calculated from the original price but cannot exceed the amount paid. These are seller voucher conditions, not the operator’s rules for an issued pass.

Using your ticket
Match each journey to this pass’s official map, then choose the consecutive start date and correct adult or child option.
Identify the purchase channel. An agency MCO/E-MCO is an exchange order, not a boarding QR; direct WEST-TR collection uses different documents.
Take every traveller’s original passport and the channel-specific collection documents to a location accepting this pass. Check its counter hours.
After collection, check the physical pass’s start date and reserve eligible Ordinary Car seats before boarding. Use a counter after six machine bookings.
Use the issued physical pass at a supported ticket gate and retrieve it. Show it at staffed gates on JR Shikoku sections. Carry your passport and seat ticket.
Questions and answers
Can I take the Shinkansen from Kyoto to Shin-Osaka?
No. That is the excluded Tokaido Shinkansen. This pass includes the Sanyo Shinkansen from Shin-Osaka to Okayama.
Does the six-booking rule limit me to six train journeys?
No. Eligible Ordinary Car seat reservations are unlimited. After six machine bookings, make further reservations at a JR counter.
Can I reserve online before exchanging an agency E-MCO?
Not through the direct WEST-TR pre-collection procedure. Exchange the agency order first, then reserve at a supported machine or JR counter.
Can I use the exchange-order QR at the gates?
No. Exchange it for the issued physical pass. WEST QR boarding products are different tickets.
Can I change the start date after exchange?
No. The issued pass’s start date and type cannot be changed. Ask a supported counter about a booked train change before that train departs.
Where do I refund an unused exchanged pass?
For an agency-order pass, use a designated exchange counter while it is unused and before expiry. The fee is 10%, rounding down below JPY 10, with a JPY 220 minimum. Direct WEST-TR has separate JPY 560 conditions. Before exchange, contact the seller.
Do younger children need their own pass?
Up to two children aged 1–5 can accompany an adult or child pass holder free. A third child, one using their own reserved seat, or one travelling alone needs a child pass. Infants under one are free.
Is the five-day pass valid for 120 hours after first boarding?
No. It runs from 00:00 on the selected first day to 24:00 on the fifth day, Japan time.
Can I use the automatic gates at Takamatsu?
No. Show the pass at the staffed gates on JR Shikoku sections.
Can I bring a large suitcase without a luggage-space reservation?
On the Sanyo Shinkansen, more than 160cm and up to 250cm in combined dimensions requires a seat with the appropriate oversized-luggage space. Trial deck lockers do not replace that requirement.
What if all oversized-luggage spaces are booked?
Choose another train with an available required space. If you miss your train, reserve the appropriate space again rather than boarding a later non-reserved car with that luggage.
Does Haruka use the same oversized-luggage reservation system?
No. This system applies to the Shinkansen, not conventional trains such as Haruka. Store your luggage appropriately without blocking aisles.
Do suspensions or delays give a pass-price refund?
The operator’s conditions do not provide that refund. An unexchanged agency-order cancellation follows the original seller’s separate package conditions.
