Group Noboribetsu and Sapporo-area train journeys
Compare this pass if your train journeys towards Noboribetsu, Sapporo and Otaru fit within four consecutive days. Include the separate journey from Noboribetsu Station to the hot-spring accommodation area in your budget. If you continue to Toya, allow for the additional out-of-area railway fare and charges.

Advance purchase through an overseas agency exchange order or JR-EAST Train Reservation has a different official price from purchase at the designated JR Hokkaido stations. Child prices are for ages 6–11. These are JPY operator fares, not AUD or the seller’s displayed package price.

Boundary stations and onward transport
The official coverage map marks JR boundaries at Otaru, Hokkaido-Iryodaigaku, Iwamizawa, New Chitose Airport and Noboribetsu. Toya is excluded. Pay the normal fare and relevant charges for the additional section if you get off outside the valid area.

JR Hokkaido Bus, the Sapporo subway and streetcars are excluded. The bus from Noboribetsu Station to the hot-spring area is also separate. Rail access to a station is not coverage of every local connection from it.

Exchange at one of this product’s three stations
Exchange or buy this area pass at the designated counters at New Chitose Airport, Sapporo or Noboribetsu only. Do not use the longer Hokkaido Rail Pass counter list as this pass’s collection list. Confirm the pass-processing hours and allow time for collection before a reserved departure.

Original passport and exchange-order requirements
Bring a valid original passport issued outside Japan when buying or exchanging the pass, and carry it during travel. A residence card or passport copy is not a substitute. The Australian English page does not establish your eligibility; any additional seller-package restrictions need separate verification.
A seller’s paper or electronic exchange order must be exchanged for the actual pass. Match the name exactly to the passport. The recorded operator conditions give paper orders three months from issue and electronic orders 90 days for exchange.
Reserve Ordinary Car seats before boarding
All JR Hokkaido limited express trains have reserved seating. Collect an Ordinary Car seat ticket before boarding; you cannot have a seat assigned on the train. After receiving the physical pass, use a supported station counter or reserved-seat machine. A seat ticket does not replace the pass at the gate.
If you change trains after receiving the seat ticket, change the reservation at a ticket counter. Green Car travel requires both the Green Car and limited express charges, not merely a fare difference.
Full trains and missed reservations
Within the pass’s covered area, the operator allows standing in Ordinary Cars on specified full limited express services: Hokuto, Suzuran, Kamui, Lilac, Soya, Sarobetsu, Okhotsk, Ozora, Tokachi and Furano Lavender Express. This is not Green Car access or permission to travel beyond your pass boundary.
A vacant Ordinary Car seat may be used temporarily under that rule, but give it up when its reserved passenger arrives. Some temporary services require a seat ticket. If you miss a reservation, ask about the next eligible service and its seating arrangements rather than assuming a replacement seat is guaranteed.
Counter exchange now; a future machine service is separate
At the 6 October 2026 check, use the designated exchange counter. Passport-reader machines are scheduled to start on 20 October; support is restricted by purchase channel and exchange-order issuer. Do not assume every Trip.com QR voucher qualifies.

Changes, cancellation and lost passes
After the actual pass is issued, its start date and pass type cannot be changed. Lost or stolen passes are not replaced. The same type of pass cannot be bought or used for overlapping validity periods, and it cannot be transferred to another traveller.
For an unexchanged order, contact the seller and follow that seller’s cancellation rules. The operator lists eligible unused-pass refunds at designated purchase/exchange counters before the start date or while unused within validity. The fee is 10% of the JPY selling price, or JPY 560 for a JR-EAST Train Reservation purchase. Confirm your ticket’s status with the counter; cancellations or delays do not grant an extension or a refund after travel starts.
Using your ticket
Choose your consecutive travel dates and check the boundary stations on this pass’s map. Do not buy the same pass type for overlapping periods.
Take the exchange order and each traveller’s original passport to a designated counter that handles this specific pass. Confirm the start date before it is issued.
After collection, obtain the seat ticket for each limited express journey through a supported counter or reserved-seat machine. Check the train, carriage and seat.
Insert only the actual pass into a supported automatic gate and collect it after passing through. Neither the exchange-order QR nor the seat ticket is the gate ticket.
Keep the pass flat and away from magnetic items, including smartphones. Carry the original passport and ask the counter before changing a reserved train.
Questions and answers
Can I board using the QR on my exchange order?
No. Exchange the order for the actual pass at a designated counter. Insert only the pass at the automatic gate; a seat ticket is not the gate ticket either.
Do limited express trains have non-reserved seats?
JR Hokkaido limited express trains are all reserved. Obtain a seat ticket before boarding. Standing on a full train is restricted to the specified Ordinary Car services within your pass area.
Can I change the start date after collection?
No. Once the actual pass is issued, its start date and pass type cannot be changed. Confirm the dates at exchange.
Is the refund fee the same for every purchase channel?
No. Eligible issued-pass refunds have a 10% fee based on the JPY selling price, or JPY 560 for JR-EAST Train Reservation purchases. An unexchanged agency order follows the seller’s conditions.
Can I use a passport-reader machine at the current check date?
Use a designated counter at the 6 October 2026 check. The 20 October machine launch has restricted channel and issuer support, not blanket acceptance of Trip.com vouchers.
Are Toya and the Noboribetsu hot-spring bus included?
No. Toya is outside the rail area, and the bus from Noboribetsu Station to the hot-spring area is separate. Budget for those journeys in addition to the covered JR trains.
