Walk up through the grounds to the keep

You can visit Wakayama Castle’s keep interior. After leaving the castle-bound bus, walk uphill to the keep, allowing enough time for the walk within the grounds.

How to get to Wakayama Castle

From JR Wakayama Station’s central exit, take a castle-bound Wakayama Bus service, such as route 0 or 25. Get off at Wakayamajo-mae after about 10 minutes. Allow extra time after alighting to walk uphill to the keep. JR Wakayama Station and Nankai Wakayamashi Station are different.

The keep closes December 29–31 and temporarily for cleaning on December 9, 2026. If visiting before moving to another city, allow time afterwards to return to the station.

Questions about Wakayama Castle

Should I use Wakayama or Wakayamashi Station for the castle?

JR Wakayama Station and Nankai Wakayamashi Station are different. From JR Wakayama, leave by the central exit and take a castle-bound bus to Wakayamajo-mae. If arriving at Nankai Wakayamashi, check the route from that station instead.
