Wakayama Castle

Visit the keep during your time in Wakayama city. Allow time to climb from the bus stop to the keep, and visit on a separate day from travel to Koyasan or Shirahama.

根本大塔

Inside Konpon Daito, statues and painted pillars form a mandala. Other Buddhist figures surround the central Dainichi Nyorai, with paintings on pillars and walls completing the scene. Interior admission is JPY 500 for junior high school age and above; the Kondo interior has a separate fee.

Shirarahama Beach白良浜

Choose Shirarahama for a beach walk in Shirahama. This route includes neither paid facilities nor swimming. If planning to swim, check the swimming season, lifeguard hours and sea conditions separately.

Sandanbeki

Sandanbeki Cliffs三段壁

At Sandanbeki, watch waves meet the rocky cliffs. No admission ticket is needed for the outdoor sea and cliff views. To see waves entering the cave at closer range, buy a ticket and take the elevator down. Wave conditions vary with the sea that day.

Visit by bus from Kii-Katsuura and view the falls from the free ordinary worship area. Nachikatsuura’s tourism organization lists ordinary worship hours of 07:00–16:30. The paid viewing platform is a separate option; confirm admission hours on the day first.

View the island and its central opening from the Shirahama coast. Boat activities and island entry are excluded. Check access and restrictions on the day. If hoping to see sunset through the opening, check whether it is possible on your chosen date separately.

  • Getting thereWalk about five minutes from Rinkai stop. The roughly 16-minute bus ride from JR Shirahama Station does not describe travel from your accommodation. Check the walk back to Rinkai and the station-bound bus arrival to connect with your return JR train.

At this market in Katsuura fishing port, choose meals such as tuna rice bowls and sushi using local ingredients, along with regional products. On departure day, leave time after eating to return to the station. Check food and activity prices for your chosen menu or program separately.

The official three-minute estimate is one way from Hiro Shrine reception to the platform. Check the route from the stop to reception separately.

Do I pay cave admission just to see Sandanbeki’s cliffs?

Cliff views are free; the cave is separate. If choosing the cave, add JPY 1,500 ordinary admission for junior high school age and above, plus time for ticketing and elevator queues. A cliff-only visit does not need the cave fee.
