Admission
Permanent-exhibition admission is ¥400 general, ¥300 for high-school and university students, or ¥200 for elementary and junior-high students. The planetarium costs separately: ¥200 general, ¥150 for high-school and university students, or ¥100 for junior-high students and younger. Special exhibitions also cost separately.
Opening hours
Open 9 a.m.–5 p.m., with last admission at 4:30 p.m. Closed Mondays, or the following day when Monday is a public holiday, December 29–January 3 and during maintenance. Check the calendar for your date.

How to get to Kumamoto City Museum
Take route B towards Kami-Kumamoto and get off at Sugidomo (杉塘). Walk about 5 minutes to the north entrance on the former Hosokawa Gyobu residence side. From Sakuramachi Bus Terminal or City Hall, the walk takes about 15 minutes. Route A from Kumamoto Station does not reach Sugidomo; change to B in the city or use a walking route. Address: 3-2 Furukyomachi, Chuo-ku, Kumamoto City.

The planetarium costs separately from the permanent exhibition. Check screening times first, then explore the permanent displays before or afterwards.
Check closures for Monday visits
Closed Mondays, or the following day when Monday is a public holiday. The entrance is on the building’s north side towards the former Hosokawa Gyobu residence; walk that way after getting off.

Questions about Kumamoto City Museum
Does the tram from Kumamoto Station go directly to the museum?
Route A from Kumamoto Station does not reach Sugidomo. Change in the city to route B towards Kami-Kumamoto and get off at Sugidomo, or walk from the city to the museum. Enter on the building’s north side.
