Permanent and thematic exhibitions are free. Special exhibition fees vary, with free entry listed for senior high school students and younger and visitors aged 65 and older. Check your chosen special exhibition's fees and free-entry conditions. The Ibaraki guide's five-day museum itinerary uses permanent exhibition admission and excludes special exhibition fees from trip costs.

Hours are 09:30–16:45, with entry by 16:15. Closed Mondays and public holidays, with exceptions when a public holiday falls on Sunday or during special exhibitions. Also closed 29 December–3 January and for fumigation and exhibition changeovers. Temporary closures may occur; check your visit date's opening calendar.

How to get to Mito City Museum

The museum is at 3-3-20 Omachi, Mito, in the central library building. Walk from Mito Station's north exit using the city map and on-site signs. At the building, distinguish library reception from the museum entrance. The Ibaraki guide's museum itinerary walks both ways from Mito Station.
