Opening hours
Opens daily at 08:30. April–September closes 17:00, admission until 16:30. March and October closes 16:30, admission until 16:00. February and November closes 16:00, admission until 15:30. January and December closes 15:30, admission until 15:00.
What to see at Zuiganji Temple
Different decoration in each room
Each main-hall room has paintings and carvings suited to its theme, with different ceilings. As you move between rooms, look at the wall paintings and overhead decoration.
How to get to Zuiganji Temple
Take the JR Senseki Line from Sendai to Matsushimakaigan Station, then walk approximately 10 minutes to Zuiganji. Matsushima Station on the Tohoku Main Line is different; the walk from there takes approximately 25 minutes.
Visiting tips
Matsushimakaigan and Matsushima are different stations
Zuiganji is approximately 10 minutes on foot from Matsushimakaigan Station and 25 minutes from Matsushima Station. When choosing a train from Sendai, check that it stops at Matsushimakaigan on the Senseki Line.
