WEST QR Kansai Mini Pass: 3-day QR ticket and HARUKA rules

Japan rail pass guide

The WEST QR Kansai Mini Pass costs JPY 3,000 for an adult or JPY 1,500 for a child and is a live QR ticket for eligible JR local, rapid and special rapid trains for three consecutive days. HARUKA needs a separate limited-express ticket; Shinkansen travel is not included.

When does this pass suit your itinerary?

Compare it with ordinary fares for three days mainly using local, rapid and special rapid trains. The operator's main-route diagram shows Kansai-airport · 関西空港, Osaka · 大阪, Kyoto · 京都, Nara · 奈良 and Kobe · 神戸, with Maiko · 舞子, Hozukyō · 保津峡 and Yamashina · 山科 at the edges. Unlike the Area pass, the Mini diagram does not extend to Himeji or Wakayama; city subways and private railways are not included just because their cities appear. If taking Haruka, compare the Mini pass plus a separate limited-express ticket with the Area pass.

Who can use it?

You need a passport issued by a government other than Japan and Temporary Visitor status. Carry your passport and proof of status during use. Japanese nationals are not eligible.

Prices and child fares

The official three-day price checked on 6 October 2026 is JPY 3,000 adult or JPY 1,500 child. Children are aged 6–11 on the payment date. Check the seller’s currency, selling price and exact option conditions separately.

Travelling with young children

Each adult or child pass holder may bring up to two children aged 1–5 free. A child pass is needed for the third or any additional child, for a child occupying a separate reserved seat, or for a child travelling alone. Infants under one year travel free.

Activate after 04:00 on your first travel day

The pass is valid for three consecutive calendar days. Its first day begins at 04:00 and its last day ends at 24:00; validity is not counted in 24-hour periods from activation. On your first travel day, tap ‘Use ticket’ after 04:00.

A WEST QR voucher needs registration, not paper exchange

Open the user website through the overseas agency voucher’s link. Register your account and ticket, then start use on the actual travel day to display the boarding QR. No paper-pass exchange is required. Use the live ticket on an internet-connected smartphone; a screenshot or printed QR cannot be used at the gate.

Register the ticket in your account

Select Link this ticket to your account on the voucher. For a new account, enter your email and password, then the email verification code, which is valid for five minutes. If you already have an account, sign in, check the ticket number and account, then select Register. Confirm that the ticket appears under Tickets and bookmark the login page. Registration does not start use; do not press Use ticket before your first travel day.

Covered trains and separate charges

Eligible local, rapid and special rapid trains’ Ordinary Car unreserved seats are included. Haruka and other limited expresses require a separate limited-express ticket, and paid seats such as A-Seat cost extra. Sunrise Seto/Izumo are excluded, including Nobinobi seats. The Shinkansen requires entirely separate tickets. The official English diagram simplifies the main routes. Area and Mini have different boundaries: use your purchased product’s map.

Haruka reserved seats

The Mini pass does not include Haruka reserved-seat bookings. Buy a separate limited-express ticket for Haruka or another limited express. The Area pass’s two-reservation benefit does not apply.

If the QR does not scan

Refresh the ticket screen and try again. If it still fails, show staff the Ticket No. and follow their instructions. At an unstaffed gate, use the call button.

Cancellations and refunds

Before starting use, contact the purchasing agency within the voucher’s usability period. Fees and conditions depend on the seller; JR stations do not refund these tickets. The product-specific Japanese rules exclude refunds after use starts and for service cancellations or delays.

From purchase to boarding

  1. Check Temporary Visitor status and travel dates, then compare every planned route with the exact product’s official coverage.

  2. Choose the three-day adult or child option. Confirm that your voucher is a WEST QR product and register the account and ticket through its link.

  3. Buy separate limited-express tickets if taking Haruka or another limited express. Those charges are not included in the Mini pass price.

  4. After 04:00 on the first travel day, press Use ticket. Display the live QR on an internet-connected smartphone; screenshots and printouts are not accepted.

  5. Scan the boarding QR at a gate with a red QR reader. At stations without a reader, use Scan QR code under Ticket details to scan the station’s entry or exit QR, choosing the correct direction.

  6. At an unstaffed gate with doors, complete the QR process, call staff through the intercom and show the ticket screen. To transfer to the Shinkansen, exit the conventional-line gates and enter with separate Shinkansen tickets.

  7. If activated by mistake, contact WEST QR chat support about changing the start date before passing through a gate. You cannot change it yourself; changes require acceptance as an exception.

Frequently asked questions

Can I take Haruka without paying extra?

No. Haruka and other limited expresses require separate limited-express tickets even within the valid area.

Do I need to exchange for a paper pass?

No. Register the account and ticket from the voucher, start use on the first travel day and display the boarding QR.

Can I save a screenshot of the QR?

Screenshots and printouts cannot be used. Display the actual ticket’s QR on an internet-connected smartphone.

If I start at night, is it valid until the same time next night?

No. It is not a 24-hour ticket. The start day counts as the first day, and validity ends at 24:00 on the final day. Start use after 04:00 on the first day.

Is child age assessed on the travel day?

The Japanese product rules use ages 6–11 on the payment date. Check the seller’s child option as well before selecting travel dates.

How can a companion without a smartphone use it?

If travelling together on the same itinerary, the ticket can be registered to a companion’s account. Each person still needs one ticket; switch to that traveller’s ticket at the gate.

Can I undo accidental activation?

Before passing through a gate, you can ask chat support about a start-date change. It cannot be changed directly by the user and is handled only if accepted as an exception. This differs from a refund after activation.

Can I distribute unused tickets to a companion’s account?

The official guide provides allocation to another account for unused tickets only. Follow Allocate or Allocation on the ticket screen, checking the recipient’s email and allocation details. Used tickets cannot be distributed this way.

Can I use one account on several phones at once?

An account can be signed in on only one smartphone at a time. If showing tickets for companions on one phone, let them pass first, then switch to your own ticket and pass last.
