How to plan a visit to Kobe
Kobe feels different by the harbour and in the mountains. Walk Meriken Park and Harborland on a shorter visit, or make time for Mt. Rokko. USJ is in Osaka, so set aside a full day if you plan to visit from Kobe.
When and where to go in Kobe
Where should I walk in spring?
For blossoms, look around Oji Zoo. It is away from the Meriken Park waterfront, so allow time to travel between them if both are on your day’s plan.
Where can families try snow play?
Instead of counting on snowfall in the city, check Rokko Snow Park’s season. It has separate snow-play and ski areas, so choose the activity that suits your group.
Harbour lights or a mountain panorama?
Walk Meriken Park for close-up harbour lights, or head towards a Mt. Rokko viewpoint for a wider city panorama. The mountain needs its own weather and transport check.
Where to go in Kobe
Meriken Park
Walk along the harbour with views of Kobe Port Tower and the water. If you want to visit near sunset, plan dinner around it.

Mt. Rokko
Set aside a mountain trip for views towards Kobe and Osaka Bay. It is not in the harbour walking area, and conditions can differ from downtown.

Meriken Park and Mt. Rokko are not in the same walking area. If you want both sea and mountain views, allow for the cable car or other transport between them.

If film-themed areas or rides appeal more than another harbour day, USJ is a full-day trip from Kobe to Osaka. Allow for the round trip from Sannomiya; transport and admission are separate costs.

A harbour day and a Shinkansen trip west start at different stations. The Shinkansen uses Shin-Kobe, not Sannomiya.
Shin-Kobe → Himeji and Okayama
Shin-Kobe, Himeji and Okayama lie on the pass-covered Sanyo Shinkansen section. The subway ride from Sannomiya to Shin-Kobe is separate; do not assume the JR pass covers it.
