WEST QR Kansai Area Pass: 1–4 days, Haruka seats and QR gates

WEST QR Kansai Area Pass

The WEST QR Kansai Area Pass covers eligible JR local trains and Haruka for 1–4 consecutive days. Haruka unreserved seats are included and dedicated reserved seats can be booked twice. The Shinkansen is excluded.

When does this pass suit your itinerary?

Compare it with the Mini pass if you will take Haruka as well as local JR trains. Choose the number of consecutive days you need and check that every planned route is inside the area.

Which places does the route diagram show?

In Kansai · 関西, the official main-route diagram shows Kansai-airport · 関西空港, Osaka · 大阪, Kyoto · 京都, Nara · 奈良, Himeji · 姫路 and Wakayama · 和歌山. It also marks Nagahama · 長浜 and Kameoka · 亀岡. These are JR routes; a city name on the diagram does not include its subway or private railways.

Who can use it?

You need a passport issued by a government other than Japan and Temporary Visitor status. Carry your passport and proof of status during use. Japanese nationals are not eligible.

Travelling with young children

Each adult or child pass holder may bring up to two children aged 1–5 free. A child pass is needed for the third or any additional child, for a child occupying a separate reserved seat, or for a child travelling alone. Infants under one year travel free.

Activate after 04:00 on your first travel day

Validity is counted in consecutive calendar days, from 04:00 on the first day to 24:00 on the last day, Japan time. It is not a series of 24-hour periods from activation. Press Use ticket after 04:00 on the day you intend to start.

If the pass expires while you are already on a train on the final day, the basic-fare validity continues into the next day until you leave the station. Covered train charges continue only until you get off that train. This exception does not let you start a new journey after midnight.

A WEST QR voucher needs registration, not paper exchange

Open the user website through the overseas agency voucher’s link. Register your account and ticket, then start use on the actual travel day to display the boarding QR. No paper-pass exchange is required.

Register the ticket in your account

Select Link this ticket to your account on the voucher. For a new account, enter your email and password, then the email verification code, which is valid for five minutes. If you already have an account, sign in, check the ticket number and account, then select Register. Confirm that the ticket appears under Tickets and bookmark the login page. Registration does not start use; do not press Use ticket before your first travel day.

Covered trains and separate charges

Eligible local, rapid and special rapid trains’ Ordinary Car unreserved seats and Haruka unreserved seats are included. Other limited expresses require a separate limited-express ticket within the area. Paid seats such as A-Seat also cost extra, and the Shinkansen requires entirely separate tickets. The official English diagram simplifies the main routes. Area and Mini have different boundaries: use your purchased product’s map.

Haruka reserved seats

Book dedicated Haruka seats up to twice through the WEST QR user website, from 30 days before travel until three minutes before departure. Station counters and machines cannot book these seats. If dedicated seats are full, choose another train’s dedicated seats or an unreserved seat.

If you miss your Haruka train

If you have not pressed Use ticket by three minutes before your reserved Haruka departs, the seat booking is cancelled automatically. If you miss the train, you can use an eligible service’s unreserved seat. The difference between reserved and unreserved seating is not refunded.

Cancellations and refunds

Before starting use, contact the purchasing agency within the voucher’s usability period. Fees and conditions depend on the seller; JR stations do not refund these tickets. The product-specific Japanese rules exclude refunds after use starts and for service cancellations or delays.

From purchase to boarding

  1. Check Temporary Visitor status and travel dates, then compare every planned route with the exact product’s official coverage.

  2. Choose the 1-, 2-, 3- or 4-day adult or child option. Confirm that your voucher is a WEST QR product and register the account and ticket through its link.

  3. If you need a Haruka reserved seat, book the dedicated seat on the user website. Do not press Use ticket early just to make an advance booking.

  4. After 04:00 on the first travel day, press Use ticket. Display the live QR on an internet-connected smartphone; screenshots and printouts are not accepted.

  5. Scan the boarding QR at a gate with a red QR reader. At stations without a reader, use Scan QR code under Ticket details to scan the station’s entry or exit QR, choosing the correct direction.

  6. At an unstaffed gate with doors, complete the QR process, call staff through the intercom and show the ticket screen. To transfer to the Shinkansen, exit the conventional-line gates and enter with separate Shinkansen tickets.

  7. If activated by mistake, contact WEST QR chat support about changing the start date before passing through a gate. You cannot change it yourself; changes require acceptance as an exception.

Frequently asked questions

Can I reserve Haruka seats at a station counter?

No. Counters and machines cannot book these dedicated seats. Reserve up to twice on the WEST QR user website.

Do I need to exchange for a paper pass?

No. Register the account and ticket from the voucher, start use on the first travel day and display the boarding QR.

Can I save a screenshot of the QR?

Screenshots and printouts cannot be used. Display the actual ticket’s QR on an internet-connected smartphone.

If I start at night, is it valid until the same time next night?

No. It is not a 24-hour ticket. The start day counts as the first day, and validity ends at 24:00 on the final day. Start use after 04:00 on the first day.

Is child age assessed on the travel day?

The Japanese product rules use ages 6–11 on the payment date. Check the seller’s child option as well before selecting travel dates.

How can a companion without a smartphone use it?

If travelling together on the same itinerary, the ticket can be registered to a companion’s account. Each person still needs one ticket; switch to that traveller’s ticket at the gate.

Can I undo accidental activation?

Before passing through a gate, you can ask chat support about a start-date change. It cannot be changed directly by the user and is handled only if accepted as an exception. This differs from a refund after activation.

Can I distribute unused tickets to a companion’s account?

The official guide provides allocation to another account for unused tickets only. Follow Allocate or Allocation on the ticket screen, checking the recipient’s email and allocation details. Used tickets cannot be distributed this way.

Can I use one account on several phones at once?

An account can be signed in on only one smartphone at a time. If showing tickets for companions on one phone, let them pass first, then switch to your own ticket and pass last.
