How to plan a visit to Osaka
For food and neon-lit streets, start in Namba and Dotonbori. For a city view from above, head to Umeda. Decide where you want to eat before trying to fit both neighbourhoods into one day.
When and where to go in Osaka
Where should I go for cherry blossoms?
Osaka Castle Park and the riverside paths at Kema Sakuranomiya are spring choices. Blossoms usually arrive around late March to early April, but the exact week changes. Leave travel time if you want dinner in Namba afterwards.
Which night view suits you?
Choose Dotonbori to walk among neon signs, or Umeda Sky Building and Abeno Harukas 300 for a view from above. They are different outings in different parts of Osaka.
Can I plan on seeing snow?
Natural snowfall is not a reliable reason to plan a day in central Osaka. For snow play, consider a separate trip to a managed facility such as Rokko Snow Park in Kobe, and check its opening dates and transport.
Where to go in Osaka
Dotonbori and Namba
Start at Ebisubashi for the Glico sign, then follow the Tombori Riverwalk if you want a longer canal walk. The street takes on a different feel when the signs light up after dark.
Food to look for Takoyaki makes a quick snack; choose okonomiyaki when you want to sit down for a full meal.

Umeda Sky Building
This observatory sits north of Osaka Station. If you are coming up from Namba, decide whether dinner belongs in the station area.
Food to look for There are many places to eat across Umeda. Looking around Osaka Station before or after the observatory is usually the easier choice.

Shinsekai and Tsutenkaku
Walk the older shopping streets around Tsutenkaku. Shinsekai is separate from Dotonbori and worth a separate walk and meal.
Food to look for Kushikatsu is the local dish to look for here. Check each shop’s menu and hours before deciding.

Universal Studios Japan
Give USJ a full day if you want film-themed areas, shows or rides. A trip with friends or a partner can focus on thrills, but it does not have to. Check the requirements for the experiences you actually want.

Osaka Station and Shin-Osaka Station are different. The Kansai WIDE Area Pass covers the Sanyo Shinkansen between Shin-Osaka and Okayama; check your boarding station and the pass area with JR West.
What and where to eat
Takoyaki fits a quick stop in Dotonbori; okonomiyaki or kushikatsu makes more sense when you have time to sit down. If the Umeda Sky Building is on your list, leave room for a meal in Umeda.
