Which Fukuoka sights should I visit?

Kushida Shrine
櫛田神社
Stop at Kushida Shrine if you want to explore festival traditions during a Hakata Old Town walk. The shrine receives the Hakata Gion Yamakasa dedication, and its grounds have a large ginkgo tree. Nearby restaurants and shops keep different hours from the shrine.

Fukuoka City Science Museum

The Science Museum offers indoor exhibitions on a rainy day. Entry to the building is free, but the Basic Exhibition and planetarium require separate tickets.

Fukuoka Tower

Momochi Beach

Momochi Beach lies north of Fukuoka Tower. After exploring the city, walk along the coast or pause by the water. A beach walk and visits to Marizon shops or activities have different costs and operating hours.

Marine World Uminonakamichi
マリンワールド海の中道
Marine World offers a chance to observe marine life with children. Allow plenty of time at the tanks. With JR transfers and viewing time, a middle day of your trip is less rushed than departure day. Nearby Uminonakamichi Seaside Park is a separately ticketed attraction.

- HoursUsually 09:30–17:30; December–February 10:00–17:00. Extended hours apply on designated Golden Week and summer dates. Last admission is 1 hour before closing. Closed 18–21 January 2027. Show-pool works suspend sea lion and dolphin shows and close the seating area from 12 January to 9 April 2027. This period includes contingency days; check the reopening notice before visiting.
- Getting thereTake JR from Hakata, transfer to the Kashii Line at Kashii and get off at Uminonakamichi. The subway one-day pass does not cover the JR section.

Dazaifu Tenmangu
Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine太宰府天満宮
Dazaifu Tenmangu honours the deity of learning. Explore the grounds with their large trees, then the shops along the approach from the station. The shrine is outside Fukuoka City; allow at least half a day for the return journey and visit.

- HoursOpens at 06:00 or 06:30 depending on the season. Closes at 18:30 in December–March, 19:30 in June–August and 19:00 in other months. Last admission to the shrine museum is 16:00.
- Getting thereTake the subway from Hakata to Tenjin, then walk to Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin). Check whether your Dazaifu train is direct or requires a transfer at Futsukaichi. From Dazaifu Station, follow the shrine approach on foot.
