Visits to the shrine grounds and main sanctuary are free. The shrine museum and nearby facilities charge separately.

Opening hours

The shrine is open for visits year-round. It opens at 06:00 from the spring equinox and 06:30 from the autumn equinox. Closing times are 18:30 in December–March, 19:30 in June–August and 19:00 in April–May and September–November. The shrine museum opens 09:00–16:30, with last admission at 16:00.

How to get to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine

From Hakata, take the subway to Tenjin and walk to Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin). Check whether your Dazaifu train is direct or requires a transfer at Futsukaichi before boarding. Get off at Dazaifu and walk along the approach to the shrine.

Dazaifu Tenmangu is in Dazaifu City, outside Fukuoka City. Allow at least half a day for return train journeys and a walk along the shrine approach. Check your train and any transfers in the timetable for your travel date.
