Four days in Okinawa: a day in the north or the south?

For marine life and Ryukyu castle grounds, visit Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium and Shurijo Castle Park on separate days. For caves and crafts, spend a day at Okinawa World in the south and add cultural attractions in Naha. The southern driving route needs a hire car or prearranged return vehicle with a driver.

A: northern aquarium and Shurijo on separate days

Give northern marine-life viewing and Ryukyu castle grounds separate days. Do not combine long travel and castle viewing on one day. Use northern buses, and Yui Rail/walks in Naha.

Day 1: airport → Kencho-mae hotel → market/Kokusai Street → hotel

Start with market meals/Kokusai Street, then aquarium and Shurijo on days 2/3. For late arrival or market closure, choose an open street restaurant. Tomorrow's northbound bus boards Kencho Kitaguchi in front of Palette Kumoji.

  1. Naha Airport Station → Your Kencho-mae hotel

After immigration/baggage, use the floor 2 passage to Naha Airport Station. Take Yui Rail towards Tedako-Uranishi to Kencho-mae: 290 yen, 13 minutes. Visit your hotel, then southern Kokusai Street. Hotel walks are extra.

  2. Your Kencho-mae hotel → Kokusai Street, market and dinner

Walk to the market and choose dinner after checking ingredients/cooking fees or restaurant menus. On closure dates, use open Kokusai Street restaurants.

Day 2: hotel → northern aquarium → Naha hotel

See marine life and eat/rest in the park today. Shurijo is tomorrow, leaving aquarium viewing time. Stop walks, waits and park travel are extra to bus ride time.

  1. Kencho Kitaguchi in front of Palette Kumoji → Kinen Koen Mae and aquarium entrance

Take northbound Yanbaru Express (YKB) from Kencho Kitaguchi in front of Palette Kumoji to Kinen Koen Mae at the Central Gate. One official example departs 08:40 and arrives 10:45: 2 hours 5 minutes aboard. With the 16:15 return below, park time is 5 hours 30 minutes. Confirm these services operate on your date before leaving. Official entrance guidance gives about 10 minutes on foot from the stop. Enter the Central Gate, turn right at Haisai Plaza and follow northward aquarium signs.

  3. Central Gate and return bus stop → Kencho Kitaguchi and your Naha hotel

Cross the Central Gate footbridge and go to the Naha-bound YKB stop below the bridge leading to the charter-bus car park. The official return example leaves Kinen Koen Mae at 16:15 and reaches Kencho Kitaguchi at 18:32, a ride of 2 hours 17 minutes. Recheck services and stops for your date and allow waiting time. Traffic can delay arrival in Naha. Alight almost opposite the outbound stop in front of Palette Kumoji, walk to your hotel and eat in Naha. Adult fares are 1,900 yen one way or 3,800 yen return.

Moving the northern day for wind/rain also requires Shurijo reservation/closure checks. Yanbaru Express has no seat reservations. Steps below explain full-bus/return alternatives.

Day 3: hotel → Shurijo → city dinner → hotel

Walk Shureimon/grounds for Ryukyu history. For Seiden interior too, match opening and reservation slot to your date. Changing days for closures also requires other facility/transport adjustments.

  1. Your Kencho-mae hotel and station → Shuri south exit and Shureimon

Take Yui Rail towards Tedako-Uranishi from Kencho-mae to Shuri: 320 yen, 14 minutes. Follow the official Shureimon route from the south exit, generally about 15 minutes. Leave 40–50 minutes from Shuri arrival to Seiden reservations.

B: southern cave and Naha culture

Walk the cave and try crafts on day 2, with museum/Shurijo on days 1/3. Southern travel needs a hire car or chauffeured return vehicle. Get a separate operator quote; return-vehicle costs are excluded below.

Day 1: airport → museum → Kencho-mae hotel

See permanent nature/history exhibitions before tomorrow's cave/craft visit. Going directly from the airport needs suitable opening/viewing time and storage. A hotel-first stop changes sections/costs.

  1. Naha Airport Station → Omoromachi, museum front entrance and luggage storage

After immigration/baggage, use the floor 2 passage to Naha Airport Station. Take a Tedako-Uranishi-bound train to Omoromachi: 320 yen, 19 minutes. Walk 10–15 minutes to the current front entrance. Large floor 1 lockers beside it require a refundable 100-yen coin. If full or luggage does not fit, ask general information about storage alternatives.

Walk from the car park or drop-off point to the ticket office and pay adult admission of 2,000 yen. 3. Arranged meeting point → Vehicle return and Naha hotel

Take your return vehicle from the agreed meeting point to Naha. Return a hire car at the contracted place and time before going to your hotel; a vehicle with a driver also needs a return booking. The facility says available taxis are not always waiting. If your return transport falls through, ask the ticket office for taxi dispatch numbers and check availability and fares to Naha.

Okinawa World: admission, vehicles and taxi FAQ

Tourism guidance lists free parking for 400 cars, without guaranteeing spaces. Allow parking-to-ticket-office walks. Vehicle, fuel, tolls, activities and meals are outside the subtotal.

Without a hire car, a booked chauffeured return can still cover this day. Without either, do not follow the driving route unchanged.

For buses, take Maekawa route 54 or Gyokusendo route 83 from Naha Bus Terminal beside Asahibashi to Gyokusendo-mae, then walk about 2 minutes. Before leaving, use operator timetables from the facility's official access page to check outward/return services and section fares together. These bus dates/fares are excluded from the driving-route subtotal.

If no return is arranged, choose Kokusai Street/market meals instead; facilities/costs change.

Rain does not guarantee all shows operate. The facility says approaching typhoons or strong wind/rain can cancel performances. Check vehicle/facility operations; do not travel when typhoons stop transport.

Day 3: hotel → Shurijo → Naha city → hotel

Frequently asked questions

Do southern routes include hire cars or return taxis?

No. Four-/five-day southern subtotals cover facility admission and listed Yui Rail sections. Add operator quotes for hire cars/return taxis.

Check car pickup/return, fuel and tolls. For taxis, arrange Naha returns in advance; empty vehicles do not always wait. Ticketing can provide dispatch-centre numbers if needed. Free parking differs from vehicle hire.

For buses, check official actual-date returns and section fares. Without vehicle/bus returns arranged, choose Naha street/market meals and walks instead; facilities/costs change. Taxi guidance checked 9 October 2026; vehicle/parking guidance 8 October.
