Visit the keep during a Wakayama City day. Allow time to climb to it after leaving the bus and separate the visit from your moving day to Koyasan or Shirahama.

  • FeesKeep admission costs 410 yen for adults or 200 yen for elementary and junior high school children. Children’s admission is free every Saturday.
  • HoursOpen 09:00–17:30, with last admission at 17:00. Closed December 29–31 and temporarily for cleaning on December 9, 2026.
  • AccessFrom JR Wakayama central exit, take an appropriate castle-bound Wakayama Bus service such as route 0 or 25 to Wakayamajo-mae. The ten-minute estimate covers the ride; climbing to the keep is extra. JR Wakayama differs from Nankai Wakayamashi.

Kongobu-ji Temple金剛峯寺

At Kongobuji, look at paintings on sliding doors and a garden representing dragons and clouds with stones and white sand. Interior visits charge admission. If staying in temple accommodation, return in time for dinner.

At Sandanbeki, see waves striking rocky cliffs. No ticket is needed for exterior sea and cliff views. For a close look at waves entering the cave, buy a ticket and descend by lift. Wave conditions vary with the sea on the day.

Take a return bus trip from Kii-Katsuura and see the falls from the free ordinary worship area. Nachikatsuura tourism guidance lists ordinary worship 07:00–16:30. The paid viewpoint is optional; confirm same-day reception times first.

View the island’s exterior and central opening from Shirahama’s coast. Boat experiences and island access are excluded. Check local access restrictions on your date, and separately whether sunset through the opening is visible on your intended day.

  • AccessAlight at Rinkai and walk about five minutes. The roughly 16-minute bus ride from JR Shirahama does not apply to departures from your hotel. Check how long you need to return to Rinkai and take a station-bound bus in time for your JR train.
