NONBIRI Holiday Suica Pass: travel dates, routes and IC gates

NONBIRI Holiday Suica Pass

The NONBIRI Holiday Suica Pass is a one-day IC-card ticket for designated JR routes around Tokyo, the Rinkai Line and Tokyo Monorail. It is valid on weekends, Japanese public holidays and specified seasonal dates; the Shinkansen is excluded.

When does this ticket suit your itinerary?

Compare it with ordinary fares if you will make a return journey around Tokyo and get off at intermediate stations on a holiday. For a weekday trip, first check whether the date falls within one of the eligible seasonal periods.

Eligible dates and one-day validity

Use it on Saturdays, Sundays and Japanese public holidays. It is also valid every day from 29 April to 5 May, 20 July to 31 August and 29 December to 3 January. Choose one eligible day for travel.

The ticket remains valid after midnight until the last train. If special all-night services run, validity ends with the last train in the normal timetable.

Check your IC card before buying

The ticket is loaded onto a supported Suica, including Mobile Suica. Mobile Suica sales are adults only and available on the travel day, with no advance purchase. Check your particular card’s sales conditions rather than assuming every Suica or Welcome Suica supports the ticket.

Covered trains and extra charges

The ticket includes eligible JR local and rapid trains, the Rinkai Line · りんかい線 and Tokyo Monorail · 東京モノレール within the coverage area, with unreserved seating only. To take a limited express, buy the required limited-express ticket separately. The Shinkansen cannot be used with this pass.

For a Green Car on an eligible conventional train, buy the required Green Car ticket separately. The pass does not include that seat charge.

Where to buy

Buy at supported JR EAST reserved-seat machines in the metropolitan Suica service area, or through Mobile Suica on your travel day. JR ticket offices do not sell it. Machine sales exclude the Shinkansen stations Honjo-Waseda · 本庄早稲田, Jomo-Kogen · 上毛高原, Annaka-Haruna · 安中榛名 through Ueda · 上田, Iiyama · 飯山 and Joetsumyoko · 上越妙高; some other stations do not handle it.

Date changes and refunds

An unused ticket within its validity can have its start date changed once at a supported JR sales location’s ticket office; a Mobile Suica ticket’s date cannot be changed. Refund an unused ticket within its validity at a supported JR ticket office for a JPY 220 fee. For Mobile Suica, request the unused ticket’s refund in the app by 23:45 on its valid day; JPY 220 is deducted. The product rules exclude refunds for train cancellations and delays.

Reading the wider coverage map

The map extends beyond central Tokyo to places such as Kamakura · 鎌倉, Odawara · 小田原, Otsuki · 大月 and Ashikaga · 足利. It shows JR access to Narita Airport and Tokyo Monorail access to Haneda Airport. Choose a covered route; separate limited-express and Green Car charges still apply.

From purchase to boarding

  1. Check that your travel day is a weekend, Japanese public holiday or one of the specified seasonal dates.

  2. Check that your IC card supports this ticket, then choose the travel date at a supported JR EAST reserved-seat ticket machine.

  3. Touch your IC card on the reader at automatic ticket gates within the coverage area. This differs from inserting a paper ticket.

  4. If you travel outside the coverage area, extra fares may be deducted from your IC balance. Check the boundary stations and keep enough balance. Buy limited-express tickets separately; the Shinkansen is excluded.
