Sendai Area Pass: one-day fares, passport rules and buses

SENDAI AREA PASS

The Sendai Area Pass covers designated JR routes, the Sendai Airport Access Line, Sendai Subway and eligible buses including Loople Sendai for one day. Carry a valid non-Japanese passport when buying and using it.

When does this pass suit your itinerary?

Compare it with individual fares for a day combining central Sendai · 仙台 with covered JR destinations such as Matsushima · 松島 or Yamadera · 山寺. For two consecutive days, compare dates and prices with the Sendai Marugoto Pass. Check whether a facility is open before choosing a pass for its admission benefit.

Who can use it?

You must carry a valid passport issued by a country other than Japan when purchasing and using the pass. Present the original passport when buying.

Prices and child fares

The table shows official JPY prices, separate from the seller’s price and display currency. Adults are aged 12 or over; children are aged 6–11.

Covered railways

The designated JR routes connect Sendai, Matsushima, Matsushimakaigan · 松島海岸, Yamadera and Shiroishi · 白石. All Sendai Airport Access Line and Sendai Subway routes are included. Abukuma Express coverage is Tsukinoki · 槻木–Abukuma · あぶくま. Check exact boundaries on the official map.

Covered buses and how to use them

Loople Sendai and Sendai City buses are included, excluding the Rakuten Shuttle bus. Miyagi Kotsu bus coverage is limited to the designated Sendai Station–Akiu Otaki · 秋保大滝 section. Show your pass to the driver when getting off.

Where to buy

Buy at the JR EAST Travel Service Center on the third floor of Sendai Station, or a reserved-seat machine with a passport reader at that station. Sales are available year-round, from one month before your intended travel day.

Date changes, loss and refunds

An unused pass whose validity has not expired may have its date changed once at a JR EAST Travel Service Center. Lost passes cannot be reissued. Check the purchase location’s applicable refund conditions.

Reading the JR coverage map

The map includes the JR branch to Rifu · 利府. Matsushima and Matsushimakaigan are different stations: choose the covered station that fits your destination, and check the walk or onward connection separately. The map is linked below rather than reproduced.

From purchase to boarding

  1. Choose your day and JR, bus and subway journeys, then check the boundaries on the official map.

  2. Bring your original passport to the JR EAST Travel Service Center on Sendai Station’s third floor or a passport-reader reserved-seat machine at that station.

  3. For JR, Sendai Subway and the Sendai Airport Access Line, insert the paper pass into the automatic gate and collect it after passing through.

  4. On buses, show the pass when getting off. On Abukuma Express, show it both when boarding and getting off.

Frequently asked questions

Can I leave my passport at my hotel?

No. You must carry a valid non-Japanese passport while using the pass as well as when buying it.

Is the train from Sendai Airport to the city included?

Yes, the whole Sendai Airport Access Line is covered. Check where you can buy the pass separately from which airport journey it covers.

Do I insert the pass into a machine on the bus?

No. Show it to the bus driver when getting off. Use automatic gates for JR, the subway and airport line; on Abukuma Express, show it when boarding and getting off.

Can I change the travel date?

You can change it once at a JR EAST Travel Service Center if the pass is unused and its validity has not expired.
