Compare one day of city and nearby journeys
For a day combining Sendai city transport with a covered rail trip towards Matsushima or Yamadera, add up the fares you would otherwise pay and compare them with the Area Pass. For two consecutive travel days, compare the Marugoto Pass rather than assuming this one-day ticket can be extended.

Facility benefits are secondary to the transport comparison. Check the actual attraction’s opening arrangements and current benefit conditions before building your day around a discount.

Official fare and travel date
Adults aged 12 or over pay JPY 1,420; children aged 6–11 pay JPY 720. These are official yen fares, not Australian-dollar equivalents or a seller’s package price.

Choose the travel date and check the validity printed on the pass. The product is a one-day pass; do not assume a rolling 24-hour period from the first ride. It is sold year-round from one month before the intended date.

Bring your passport to buy and use the pass
You need a valid non-Japanese passport when purchasing and using the Area Pass. Present your original passport at purchase and carry it while travelling. Reading an Australian English page does not itself establish your eligibility.

Railway boundaries and the airport connection
The designated JR area links Sendai, Matsushima, Matsushimakaigan, Yamadera and Shiroishi. The full Sendai Airport Access Line and Sendai Subway are included; Abukuma Express coverage is limited to Tsukinoki–Abukuma. Check the map’s boundary stations before planning a journey beyond these sections.

A local-area pass is not evidence that every train serving these stations is included. Confirm any Shinkansen or limited express journey and additional seat requirements with the operator before booking; the linked English summary does not establish those conditions.

City buses and the Akiu route
Loople Sendai and Sendai City Buses are included, but the Rakuten Shuttle bus is excluded. Miyagi Kotsu coverage is the designated Sendai Station–Akiu Otaki section, not the company’s entire network. Show the pass to the driver when getting off a covered bus.

Buy at Sendai Station, not just any covered station
The listed purchase points are the JR EAST Travel Service Center on the third floor of Sendai Station and reserved-seat ticket machines with passport readers at Sendai Station. Airport-line coverage and a place to buy the pass are different things: the English Area Pass guide does not list an airport purchase point.

Paper ticket gates and showing the pass
Insert the paper pass at JR, Sendai Subway and Sendai Airport Access Line automatic gates, then retrieve it. On buses, show it as you get off. On Abukuma Express, show it both when boarding and when getting off. Keep the pass accessible rather than packed inside your luggage.

Date changes, loss and refunds
An unused pass whose validity has not expired can have its date changed once at the JR EAST Travel Service Center. A lost pass is not replaced. For a refund, ask the purchase point for the conditions that apply to your ticket; the linked English summary does not specify a refund fee.
