Permanent-exhibition admission costs 400 yen for general admission, 300 yen for high-school and university students, or 200 yen for primary-school and junior-high pupils. The planetarium costs a separate 200 yen for general admission, 150 yen for high-school and university students, or 100 yen for junior-high students and younger. Special exhibitions cost extra too.
Opening hours and closed days
The museum opens from 09:00–17:00, with last admission at 16:30. It closes on Mondays, or the next day if Monday is a public holiday, from December 29–January 3 and during inspection periods. Check your visit-date calendar.

The second-floor exhibits explore Kumamoto’s geological changes and Lake Ezu ecology. After history, explore local nature too.
How to get to Kumamoto City Museum
Take tram route B towards Kami-Kumamoto to Sugidomo (杉塘). Walk about five minutes and enter on the museum’s north side towards the former Hosokawa Gyobu residence. Walking from Sakuramachi bus terminal or City Hall takes about 15 minutes. Route A from Kumamoto Station does not reach Sugidomo; change to B in the city or use a walking route. The address is 3-2 Furukyomachi, Chuo-ku, Kumamoto City.

Time the planetarium around screenings
The planetarium has a separate charge from the permanent exhibits. Check screening times first, then view the permanent exhibits before or after.
Check closure days for a Monday visit
The museum closes on Mondays, or the following day if Monday is a public holiday. The entrance is on the north side towards the former Hosokawa Gyobu residence; walk there after leaving the tram.

Questions about Kumamoto City Museum
Can I take a direct tram from Kumamoto Station to the museum?
Route A from Kumamoto Station does not go to Sugidomo. In the city, change to route B towards Kami-Kumamoto and get off at Sugidomo, or walk from the city to the museum. Enter on the north side.
