Admission
Permanent exhibition admission is JPY 400 for general visitors, JPY 300 for senior high school and university students and JPY 200 for primary and junior high school students. Planetarium admission is separate: JPY 200 for general visitors, JPY 150 for senior high school and university students and JPY 100 for junior high school students and younger. Special-exhibition fees are also separate.
Opening hours
The museum opens 09:00–17:00, with last admission at 16:30. It closes Mondays, or the following day after a Monday public holiday, 29 December–3 January and during maintenance periods. Check the dated calendar.

How to get to Kumamoto City Museum
Take a Kamikumamoto-bound B-line tram to Sugitomo · 杉塘. Walk about five minutes to the northern museum entrance towards the former Hosokawa Gyobu residence. Walking from Sakuramachi bus terminal or City Hall takes about 15 minutes. Line A from Kumamoto Station does not reach Sugitomo, so change to line B in town or walk. Address: 3-2 Furukyomachi, Chuo-ku, Kumamoto.

Planetarium admission is separate from the permanent exhibition. Choose a screening first, then view the permanent displays before or after it.
Check closures for a Monday visit
The museum closes Mondays, or the following day after a Monday public holiday. The entrance is north of the building towards the former Hosokawa Gyobu residence; walk that way from the stop.

Can I reach the museum directly by tram from Kumamoto Station?
Line A from Kumamoto Station does not reach Sugitomo stop. Change in the city to a Kamikumamoto-bound B-line tram and get off at Sugitomo, or walk from town. Enter on the building's north side.
