For a short trip, stay in the city or split the temple visits?
Stay one night in Morioka for stone-wall walks and old bank interiors. For Motsu-ji’s garden and Chuson-ji’s Golden Hall on separate days, spend a night in Hiraizumi. The city route begins after arrival at Morioka Station; the temple route begins at Hiraizumi Station. Run Run services to and from Chuson-ji vary by season and day, so choose both buses for your date first.

Frequently asked questions
Does the subtotal include a bus to the castle park?
The one-night Morioka route’s JPY 600 subtotal covers only next day’s Akarenga paid admission of JPY 300 and two Dendenmushi rides totalling JPY 300. Day one assumes walking to and from the castle park. If taking a park bus, add JPY 150 per ride. Hotels, meals, trains into and out of Morioka and luggage storage are excluded.
Can I follow the separate-day temple itinerary unchanged on weekdays?
You can keep the temples on separate days, but Run Run to and from Chuson-ji does not operate on most weekdays. The 2026 guidance lists weekends and public holidays from 11 April to 29 November, plus daily services on 13–16 August. For other weekdays or winter, check ordinary-bus return services and fares separately. JPY 2,100 covers only Motsu-ji JPY 700, Chuson-ji ordinary admission JPY 1,000 and two Run Run rides JPY 400. Recalculate the subtotal if using ordinary buses, whose fares differ.
