Spend the middle day at temples, or stay in Hakone?

Stay in Yokohama for port exhibits and Kamakura’s temples, or spend two nights in Yumoto for Hakone’s local history exhibits and outdoor art museum. The Yumoto route visits the art museum and Gora on day two before returning to the same hotel. On the last day, you leave the mountains via Odawara; for an early flight, choose a route that moves to a city the previous day.

Frequently asked questions

Can you still sightsee on departure day after two nights in Yumoto?

If airport travel leaves enough time, take a short walk along Yumoto’s river. Visit the history museum, Open-Air Museum and Gora during the first two days, then travel to the airport via Odawara on the last day. Skip the walk if the hotel stop, transfers and airport formalities would leave you rushed. A morning flight needs a separate itinerary with the last night outside the mountains, somewhere with easier airport access.

Does visiting Gora after the art museum cost the same as returning directly to Yumoto?

For the route via Gora, Yumoto → Chokoku-no-mori costs JPY 460, Chokoku-no-mori → Gora JPY 160, and Gora → Yumoto JPY 460: JPY 1,080 for trains. Add the museum’s JPY 2,000 same-day ticket for a subtotal of JPY 3,080. This differs from the JPY 920 Yumoto–Chokoku-no-mori return route without Gora. Meals, accommodation and hotel access cost extra.
