Hokuriku Arch Pass

The Hokuriku Arch Pass covers specified routes from Tokyo (東京) via Hokuriku to Kyoto (京都) and Osaka (大阪) for seven consecutive days. It includes the Tokyo–Tsuruga (敦賀) Hokuriku Shinkansen, but excludes the Tokyo–Kyoto–Shin-Osaka (新大阪) Tokaido Shinkansen and the Sanyo Shinkansen.

Places and stations

Tokyo · 東京; Kanazawa · 金沢; Tsuruga · 敦賀; Kyoto · 京都; Osaka · 大阪.

Which itinerary suits this pass?

Compare it for a journey between Tokyo and Kansai that also visits Hokuriku. It does not cover a direct Tokaido Shinkansen journey from Tokyo to Osaka.

Eligibility and prices

You need an original foreign passport and Temporary Visitor status. The passport must remain valid throughout the travel period. The official seven-day price is JPY 35,000 for adults and JPY 17,500 for children. JR East assesses children as aged 6–11 on the purchase date; for an agency voucher, also check the issuing channel’s age-assessment date.

Included trains and the English map

Covered Ordinary Car reserved and non-reserved seating on JR East and JR West, Tokyo Monorail and Noto Railway between Nanao (七尾) and Wakuraonsen (和倉温泉) are included. Open the official English coverage map below to check the exact boundary stations.

Limited through-travel on other railways

IR Ishikawa between Kanazawa and Tsubata (津幡), Ainokaze Toyama between Toyama (富山) and Takaoka (高岡), and HAPI-LINE FUKUI between Fukui (福井) and Echizen-Hanando (越前花堂) have restricted through-travel conditions for reaching connecting lines. Getting off at intermediate stations or travelling beyond these sections requires separate fares.

Collection depends on your purchase channel

For a direct JR-EAST Train Reservation purchase, collect the actual pass at a supported location or passport-reader machine. Show a travel-agency voucher with your original passport at an authorised exchange point. For a direct JR West purchase, follow the separate reservation collection instructions.

Reserved seats and gates

Obtain reserved-seat tickets before boarding; the pass alone does not secure a seat. Green Car and GranClass travel require separate charges. Retrieve the paper pass after using an automatic gate; show it to staff where automatic gates are unavailable.

Changes and cancellation

After issue, validity dates cannot be changed and lost passes cannot be reissued. JR’s conditions specify a 10% fee for an unused pass refunded within its validity period, with restrictions once a reserved train has departed even if unused. Before exchanging an agency voucher, check that seller’s cancellation conditions.

From purchase to boarding

  1. Plan the route via Hokuriku first, keeping it distinct from the Tokaido Shinkansen route.

  2. Follow your purchase channel’s instructions to collect the paper pass with your original passport and reservation or exchange documents.

  3. Obtain Ordinary Car reserved-seat tickets for the trains you need before boarding.

  4. Retrieve the pass after passing through the gate, then find the coach and seat shown on your reservation.
