FUK arrival guide · International and domestic terminals
How to get to downtown Hakata and Tenjin from Fukuoka Airport
For a hotel east of Hakata Station, a direct bus from the international terminal saves you a transfer. For Tenjin, compare the direct buses with the subway; for Nakasu-Kawabata, the subway is a straightforward option. The subway station is at the domestic terminal, so international arrivals need to take the free terminal shuttle first. Domestic arrivals can follow the station signs inside the terminal.
Fukuoka Airport · 福岡空港 (FUK) has separate international and domestic terminals. All routes below start at the airport. Times are Japan Standard Time (JST); fares are adult one-way prices in Japanese yen (JPY).
Official sources reviewed: . Please check the timetable revision date and travel date.

Ride time does not include immigration, baggage collection, walking to the bus stop, ticketing, waiting, or walking to accommodation. For international arrivals, the five-minute subway ride to Hakata is only one part of the trip: add the shuttle ride, waiting, and the walk between the shuttle stop and train platform.
From the international terminal: shuttle to the subway
International arrivals, first floor → Free shuttle, bus stop 5 → Domestic terminal → Fukuoka Airport Station → Ticket machine or IC card gate → Airport Line → Destination station → Hotel
- After completing immigration, baggage pickup, and customs, go outside the first floor and look for the ‘Domestic Connecting Bus’ sign No. 5. This is different from the paid bus stop for Hakata and Tenjin.
- Get off the free bus at the ‘Domestic Terminal Connecting Bus Stop’. Based on the airport map, the shuttle ride takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes.
- According to official airport information, the nearest subway entrances are 1A and 1B. Go down the escalator/stairs, and use the south elevator at the domestic terminal for suitcases/strollers.
- Select your destination at the ticket machine at the airport station or go through the ticket gate with a supported transport IC card. Take the Airport Line toward downtown/Meinohama and get off at the station that suits your accommodation: Hakata, Nakasu-Kawabata, or Tenjin.
Shuttles leave the international terminal from 06:17 to 23:21. Between 07:00 and 18:00, they generally run every 6–7 minutes; early-morning and evening intervals differ. The domestic-terminal departure window is 06:00–23:19, so check the direction before choosing a departure.
Domestic arrivals: follow the subway signs downstairs
From the first-floor domestic arrivals hall, follow the subway signs toward the south elevator or escalator and go down to the B2F access hall. This leads to the station ticket gates. If you arrive at the north arrivals hall, head toward the south side of the terminal. With large bags or a stroller, use the elevators and follow the elevator signs to the platform.
The Airport Line goes directly to Hakata, Nakasu-Kawabata, and Tenjin. An adult one-way ticket to any of these stations costs 260 yen. Buy a ticket at the machine or use a supported transit IC card. If you have a pass, check its valid dates and Airport Line coverage; a subway ticket does not automatically cover an airport bus.

Dashed lines show the order and direction of travel—not actual road, rail, or terminal paths. Markers are approximate reference points. Use the airport’s official map and signs to find the boarding stop or exit.
Hakata hotels: choose the right side of the station
Hakata Station · 博多駅 has the Chikushi Exit on its east side and the Hakata Exit on its west side. Locate your hotel on a map before choosing a bus or subway exit.
Bus stops 6 and 7 → Hakata Station’s Chikushi Exit
International arrivals → First-floor bus stop 6 or 7 → Nishitetsu bus to Hakata Station’s Chikushi Exit → East-side hotel
The regular fare is 400 yen; a supported transit IC card or contactless credit card brings it to 380 yen. Board at the front door and pay when boarding. This route is part of a cashless-payment trial, so have a supported card or ticket ready.
If you only have cash, tell the driver before paying and follow the operator’s cash-only exception instructions. Since April 26, 2025, this airport route has arrived at the Chikushi Exit rather than Hakata Bus Terminal; older directions may show the former stop.
For a west-side hotel, use the station’s east–west passage to reach the Hakata Exit. The walking link below connects the two exits; replace its destination with your hotel address for the final leg. Check the operator’s stop map and timetable for the bus’s exact arrival point and ride time.
Subway → Hakata Station → Exit toward accommodation
Get off at Hakata Station on the Airport Line and compare the Hakata Exit and Chikushi Exit signs with your accommodation address. One station exit number is not common to all hotels. The walking distances from hotels in front of Hakata Station on the west and towards Canal City are also different.
Tenjin and Tenjin-minami are different stations
Tenjin Station · 天神駅 is a station on the Airport Line, and Tenjin-minami Station · 天神南駅 is a station on the Nanakuma Line. You cannot get off directly at Tenjin Minami from the airport line. Compare the walking distance after getting off at Tenjin Station for hotels in the north, and in front of the bus terminal/city hall for hotels in the south.
If you take the subway near Tenjin Minami Station, you can transfer to the Nanakuma Line at Hakata or walk from Tenjin Station. If you have large luggage, choose based on your accommodation address and elevator location. Walking sections are not included in the train ride time.
Bus stop 8 → Tenjin Airport Express
International arrivals, first floor → Bus stop 8 → Airport Express → Nishitetsu Tenjin Expressway Bus Terminal → Hotel
Airport Express runs nonstop to Nishitetsu Tenjin Expressway Bus Terminal · 西鉄天神高速バスターミナル. The regular fare is 500 yen, or 480 yen with a supported transit IC card. Credit cards are not accepted onboard.
The IC-card discount does not apply if you split the fare between cash and an IC card.
Pay as you board at the front door, and touch your transport IC card in the order of boarding and alighting. Put the suitcase into the trunk yourself and ask a staff member if you need assistance. Since general unlimited ride passes are not applicable to all routes, please check the pass coverage.
The April 1, 2026 timetable lists the first airport departure at 09:20 on weekdays and 09:22 on weekends and public holidays; the last is 18:35. The scheduled ride takes about 30–40 minutes. For an evening arrival, compare another route rather than counting on this bus.
HEARTS: southwest Hakata and Fukuoka City Hall
International terminal bus stop 11 or domestic terminal bus stop 2 → HEARTS Bus Station Hakata → In front of Fukuoka City Hall
HEARTS Bus Station Hakata · HEARTSバスステーション博多 is at 4-14-13 Hakataekimae. It is different from Hakata Bus Terminal.
In Tenjin, HEARTS stops outside Fukuoka City Hall · 福岡市役所, not at Nishitetsu’s bus terminal.
The adult one-way fare is 600 yen. Buy a ticket with cash, credit card, or QR payment at the dedicated first-floor counter in either terminal. Contact the operator for advance reservations: the official site listed its online booking service as not yet available when the sources were reviewed.
Walk-ins can board if seats are available. Standing is not allowed, and seats are not assigned by number.
In the revised table on November 17, 2025, the last bus from the international terminal leaves at 19:45 → Hakata 20:00 → City Hall 20:20, and the last bus from the domestic terminal leaves at 19:30. It takes about 15 to 20 minutes from the international terminal to Hakata, and about 35 to 40 minutes to the city hall. It may be delayed depending on road conditions. Extension in front of City Hall for international departures at 19:30 is limited from Wednesday to Sunday, so you must also check the notes for each bus departure.
Reservation cancellations must be made by email 30 minutes prior to departure, and the official refund fee is 200 yen for adults. If you become aware of a flight delay, please contact [email protected] with your reservation number and new arrival time to see if changes can be made. [email protected]
Other transport companies and ticket sellers may have different change and cancellation rules.
Nakasu-Kawabata hotels: direct on the Airport Line
Get off at Nakasu-Kawabata Station · 中洲川端駅. It costs 260 yen for adults from the airport station, and there is no need to get off at Hakata or transfer to another line. If you arrive at the international terminal, take the free shuttle to the domestic terminal first.
The direction of the accommodation is different on the Nakasu side and the Kawabata shopping street side across the river. Enter your accommodation address on the walking map below to check the exit/river crossing section. If you are traveling late at night with your luggage, save the hotel entrance and late check-in contact information.
Nakasu-Kawabata Station → Kawabata Shopping Street Walking Map ↗Late international arrivals: check the last shuttle as well as the last train
The April 1, 2026 station timetable lists the last city-bound Airport Line train at 00:35 following a weekday or Saturday, and at 00:00 following a Sunday or public holiday. The 00:15 and 00:35 departures in the weekend/holiday table are marked Saturday-only; do not use them for a Sunday or public-holiday arrival.
The official station timetable for the day of travel takes precedence.
The last shuttle leaves the international terminal at 23:21. A later subway departure does not help if you can no longer reach the domestic-terminal station. Please consider the time when you have finished entering the country and picking up your luggage, waiting for the shuttle, traveling for 10 to 15 minutes, and entering the ticket gate and platform. The judgment of the last train for domestic and international arrivals is different.
Tenjin Airport Express lasts at 18:35, and the last HEARTS bus leaves the international terminal at 19:45. For Hakata Chikushiguchi, the airport departure time is from 08:00 to 21:00 on weekdays, Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays on April 1, 2026.
Check the timetable for your actual travel date. Do not assume a bus or train will wait for a delayed flight.
After the last bus or train: use the official taxi stand
Please use the official taxi rank on the first floor of the arrival terminal. Show the Japanese address of your accommodation, number of people and suitcases, and check card payment, loading space, tolls and late-night surcharges before boarding.
Please inform the property if late check-in is possible. For reserved vehicles, free waiting limits, extension costs, and no-show conditions vary depending on the company, so you must contact them based on the reservation confirmation.
Do not assume that service will be suspended just because a typhoon or heavy rain is forecast, but check subway operation notices, Nishitetsu bus notices, and airport flight status together. Subway operation notice · Nishitetsu Bus Notice · Airport flight status
Taxis and rental cars: getting to your hotel
Arrival hall → Official taxi stand on the first floor of each terminal → Present accommodation address → Accommodation entrance
The domestic-terminal taxi stands are numbers 3 and 10. For international flights, use the taxi stand on the first floor as indicated in the official guide map, and for reserved vehicles, follow the meeting point designated by the company. The airport sources do not provide current fixed fares to Hakata or Tenjin, so ask for a metered-fare estimate or a quote.
Confirm any tolls, late-night surcharges, and waiting charges with the company.
There is a common information desk on the first floor of the international terminal for rental cars, but there is no rental car counter on the domestic terminal. Please use the contact information of the company you made the reservation to confirm transportation to and from the pick-up branch and sales office, and processing upon arrival after business closes. Do not assume that you will pick up your vehicle right away at the information center. You need to know the parking lot location, cost, and deadline for parking at your accommodation in the city.

Fukuoka airport transfer FAQ
How do I reach the subway from the international terminal?
The airport station is connected to the domestic terminal. Take the free shuttle from bus stop 5 outside international arrivals on the first floor. Get off at the domestic connecting bus stop and go to the subway entrance. It is not a route to take the subway directly from the international terminal.
How do I get to the domestic terminal?
Take the free shuttle from bus stop 5 at the international terminal. Based on the airport map, the shuttle ride takes about 10 to 15 minutes, and waiting is separate. Departures from the international terminal are from 06:17 to 23:21, and the interval is about 6 to 7 minutes during the day, but the interval is different in the early morning and at night.
Which route should I take to my hotel in Hakata or Tenjin?
For hotels east of Hakata Station, take the Chikushi Exit-bound bus from international-terminal stops 6 or 7, and for hotels west of the station, compare the subway or HEARTS drop-off points. Tenjin can be reached by subway from the domestic terminal or Airport Express from bus stop 8 from the international terminal. Subway Tenjin Station, Nishitetsu Bus Terminal, and HEARTS City Hall are different arrival points.
Is there a bus that goes directly from the international terminal to the city?
Yes. Bus stops 6 and 7 are bound for Nishitetsu Hakata Station Chikushi Exit, stop 8 is Airport Express bound for Tenjin, and stop 11 is HEARTS bound for Hakata/Tenjin. HEARTS stops at HEARTS Bus Station Hakata, not Hakata Bus Terminal, and outside Fukuoka City Hall in Tenjin.
How do I get to Nakasu-Kawabata?
If you take the subway Airport Line from Airport Station, which is connected to the domestic terminal, and get off at Nakasu-Kawabata Station, there is no transfer. Adult one-way fare is 260 yen. Check whether your accommodation is across the river on the Nakasu side or on the Kawabata shopping street side and choose an exit.
Can I pay with a transport IC card?
Supported transport IC cards can be used for subway and Nishitetsu buses. The Hakata direct bus costs 380 yen when paid with a transport IC card or supported credit card, and the Tenjin Airport Express costs 480 yen when paid with a transport IC card. Airport Express does not accept credit cards onboard, so please separate the payment terms for both buses.
Can I use it with a large suitcase?
For the subway, use the south elevator at the domestic terminal and follow the station’s elevator signs. Airport Express allows you to put your luggage in the trunk yourself and ask a staff member if you need assistance. For other buses and taxis, you must check the number of bags and loading space, and the same free baggage limit does not apply to all vehicles.
What if my flight is delayed and I miss the last departure?
If you are arriving on an international flight, you must check both the last shuttle and the last subway train. We do not guarantee that buses or trains will wait for flight delays. If buses and trains have stopped running, go to the official taxi stand on the first floor of the arrival terminal and show your accommodation address and number of luggage. For reserved vehicles, please notify the company of your new arrival time in advance.
