Key cities and stations

Main destinations and connecting stations include Hiroshima · 広島, Tottori · 鳥取, Takamatsu · 高松, Kamigori · 上郡, Chizu · 智頭, Kojima · 児島 and Utazu · 宇多津, alongside Shin-Osaka and Hakata.

When does this pass suit your itinerary?

Compare it with individual fares if you are traveling from Kansai to Hiroshima and Hakata while also visiting Sanin destinations such as Tottori. Including Hakata does not mean that all onward trains across Kyushu are covered.

Who can use it?

You need a passport issued by a government other than Japan and Temporary Visitor status. Japanese nationals are not eligible. Bring every traveler’s passport when collecting the passes and carry your passport during travel.

Prices and child fares

The seven-day pass costs JPY 23,000 adult or JPY 11,500 child. The Japanese terms define children as aged 6–11 on the payment date. Check the actual selling option’s price on its sales page.

Traveling with young children

Each adult or child pass holder may bring up to two children aged 1–5 free. A child pass is required for the third or any additional child, for a child occupying a separate reserved seat, or for a child traveling alone. Infants under one year travel free.

Seven consecutive calendar days

Validity runs from 00:00 on the start date to 24:00 on the seventh day, Japan time. If you remain on a train across midnight at the end of validity, basic-fare coverage continues until you exit the gate and train-charge coverage until you get off that same train.

Exchange orders are not boarding tickets

Exchange an agency order for the actual pass. An electronic order’s QR code is not a ticket for boarding the train.

Covered routes

The pass covers Ordinary Car reserved and unreserved seats on the Sanyo Shinkansen from Shin-Osaka to Hakata, plus eligible JR local, rapid, special rapid and limited-express trains within the map. It also includes Chizu Express from Kamigori to Chizu and the mapped Kyoto Tango Railway sections. The Shikoku connection is Kojima–Utazu–Takamatsu; the pass does not cover all of Shikoku.

Using covered buses

Eligible local West Japan JR Bus routes within the map are included, but that operator’s highway buses are excluded. JR Bus Chugoku local routes, the Hiroshima Meipuru-pu sightseeing bus and Super Hagi highway bus are included. Take one numbered boarding ticket per person. When getting off, show the pass and put only the numbered ticket in the fare box.

Where to exchange an order

Exchange within three months of issue and no later than the day of use. Take a paper MCO to a designated counter, or an E-MCO to a machine or counter supporting the exact pass and purchase channel. Takamatsu Station is listed for counter collection only.

Reserved seats and the machine limit

Ordinary Car reservations are unlimited. Use a counter after six machine bookings. Reserve before boarding; a reserved-seat-only train has no unreserved car.

Online reservations depend on your purchase channel

Agency-order purchasers reserve seats after exchanging for the actual pass. Direct WEST-TR purchasers may reserve up to six trains before collection. These direct-purchase functions do not apply to an agency exchange order.

Extra-charge seats and excluded Shinkansen

Green Car, sleeper accommodation and A-Seat require separate charges. Sanyo Shinkansen S Work cars require separate payment of both basic fare and train charges. The Tokaido Shinkansen from Shin-Osaka to Tokyo · 東京 and the Kyushu Shinkansen from Hakata to Kagoshima-Chuo · 鹿児島中央 are excluded.

Cancellations and refunds

Ask the original agency about an unexchanged order within one year of issue; its product-specific fees apply. For an exchanged, unused pass, agency-order refunds cost 10% of the selling price, with a minimum of JPY 220, while direct WEST-TR refunds cost JPY 560 per person. Processing places and deadlines differ by channel. Used passes are not refunded, and no refund is given for cancellations or delays.

From purchase to boarding

  1. Check your passport, Temporary Visitor status and seven-consecutive-day itinerary. Compare onward journeys beyond Hakata or to other Shikoku cities with the official map.

  2. Confirm that this is the Sanyo–San’in seven-day pass and distinguish an agency order from a direct official online purchase. Special editions bundled with sightseeing experiences have separate product conditions.

  3. For an agency order, bring the order and every traveler’s passport to exchange for the actual passes. Use the MCO or E-MCO column in the location table; at Takamatsu, use the supported counter.

  4. For a direct official online purchase, bring the reservation number, your chosen four-digit identification number, the physical card used for payment and your passport. Machine collection requires an IC-chip passport.

  5. Reserve seats before boarding. Agency purchasers reserve after exchange; use a counter after six machine reservations.

  6. On JR Shikoku sections such as Takamatsu, show the actual pass at a staffed gate. Automatic gates cannot be used.

  7. On covered buses, take a numbered boarding ticket and show the pass to the driver when getting off. Do not put the pass in the fare box.

  8. If cancelling, check the purchase-channel processing place and deadline before use starts. The pass type and start date cannot be changed after exchange, and lost passes cannot be reissued.
