Okayama Airport to Okayama and Kurashiki

If you are staying near Okayama Station, take the airport bus to the west exit of the station. For Kurashiki accommodation, please check whether the departure time of the direct bus matches your arrival schedule. If not, you can transfer to JR at Okayama Station. Korakuen and Okayama Castle can be reached by bus or tram from the east of Okayama Station, and the Bikan Historical Quarter can be reached on foot from the south of Kurashiki Station.

From the first-floor arrival hall to your bus

  1. After immigration and baggage claim, enter the first-floor arrival hall. Both domestic and international passengers use the bus stops outside this floor.
  2. Prepare a supported transit IC card, such as Suica or ICOCA, or the local Hareca card. Otherwise, buy a destination-specific ticket at the bus-stop ticket machine.
  3. Use airport bay 2 for Okayama Station, labeled 岡山駅方面, or bay 3 for Kurashiki Station, labeled 倉敷駅方面. Join the line for your destination.
  4. Confirm the departure, ask staff to load your suitcase, and board. With an IC card on Okaden, tap when boarding and again when getting off; follow the vehicle’s instructions.

Okaden’s ticket machines accept cash, contactless credit cards including Visa, Mastercard and JCB, and selected electronic or QR payments. These are machine payment methods: onboard, credit cards and QR payments are not a substitute for a supported transit IC card.

Chutetsu lists tickets, cash and supported transit IC cards. Check the machine or vehicle’s payment signs. Ordinary passengers on both routes do not need a reservation, but a ticket does not guarantee a seat on a full bus. Okaden’s wheelchair-accessible seating requires a separate phone reservation.

If you go to Kurashiki via Okayama Station, bus 1,000 yen + JR 330 yen = 1,330 yen, ride time is about 46 to 48 minutes in total. Allowing about 60–90 minutes from the airport bus bay to Kurashiki Station is a planning example that includes transfer and train waiting time, not a scheduled or guaranteed journey. The actual connection can take longer. Add immigration procedures and transfers from the station to your accommodation here.

Getting to a hotel near Okayama Station

Okayama Station · 岡山駅

  1. At the first-floor bus-stop ticket machine, buy an Okayama Station ticket or prepare your supported IC card. Join the line at bay 2.
  2. Take a bus displaying 岡山駅西口 for Okayama Station West Exit. The ride takes about 30 minutes. Services marked 特急 make intermediate stops but continue to the station.
  3. Get off at west-side bus bay 21, beside West Exit · 西口 / 運動公園口. This is a bus bay, not a Shinkansen platform.
  4. For a west-side hotel, follow walking directions to its entrance. For an east-side hotel, use the second-floor east–west public passage · 東西連絡通路 and leave through East Exit · 東口 / 後楽園口. You do not need to enter the ticket gates or buy a rail ticket. Check the station plan for elevators if needed.

Look up the hotel’s actual address, not just “Okayama city center.” Its side of the station determines your final walk. For a late arrival, confirm the hotel’s check-in deadline and the route from the station.

From Okayama Station to Korakuen and Okayama Castle

Okayama Korakuen Garden · 岡山後楽園
Okayama Castle · 岡山城

The airport bus arrives west of the station. Both attractions are to the east: first use the public passage to East Exit. Neither is a direct airport-bus destination.

Korakuen Main Gate: bus from east-side bay 1

  1. At bay 1 in the east-side bus terminal, look for an Okaden bus bound for Fujiwara Danchi · 藤原団地. Check its payment instructions and fare.
  2. After about 10–15 minutes, get off at Korakuen-mae · 後楽園前. The garden’s official access guide directs you toward the main gate nearby.
  3. Follow Main Gate · 正門 signs to the ticket office. Uno Bus also has a direct Korakuen service from east-side bay 1, with a stop named 岡山後楽園. Use the correct timetable and stop name for your operator.

To walk instead, follow Momotaro-dori, cross Tsurumi Bridge and head to the main gate. The garden’s English access guide gives about 25 minutes from the station; allow more time for luggage and traffic lights.

East Exit to Korakuen Main Gate: walking directions ↗

Okayama Castle: tram to Shiroshita, then walk

  1. From East Exit, find Okayama Eki-mae tram stop · 岡山駅前. Take a tram bound for Higashiyama · 東山.
  2. Ride about 4–5 minutes to Shiroshita · 城下. The adult fare is 160 yen. Pay cash into the fare box when getting off, or tap a supported IC card when boarding and exiting. The fare box does not give change; prepare coins or use the onboard change machine.
  3. Follow castle signs and walk about 10 minutes to the approach near Rokamon Gate · 廊下門. Continue toward the keep and ticket office. The map pin marks this approach, not the center of the castle.

Korakuen is also about a 10-minute walk from Shiroshita. For its main gate, cross Tsurumi Bridge. To move from the castle to the garden’s south gate, check the official route via Tsukimi Bridge. Confirm opening hours and which entrance is available.

Getting to Kurashiki Station and the Bikan Historical Quarter

Kurashiki Station · 倉敷駅
Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter · 倉敷美観地区

Direct bus: airport bay 3

  1. Buy a Kurashiki ticket at the bus-stop machine, or prepare cash or a supported IC card. Go to bay 3, labeled 倉敷駅方面.
  2. Take Chutetsu’s nonstop bus displaying 倉敷駅北口 for Kurashiki Station North Exit. The expressway ride takes about 35 minutes and costs 1,400 yen.
  3. Get off at north-side bus bay 2. For a north-side hotel, follow its address from here. For the Bikan Historical Quarter or a south-side hotel, use the station’s north–south passage to South Exit · 南口.

The October 1–24, 2026 timetable lists airport departures at 09:15, 09:40, 11:45, 12:05, 13:45, 16:00, 18:55 and 19:20, without weekday restrictions for these services. These departures are coordinated with domestic arrivals; do not assume an extra Kurashiki bus for an arriving Incheon flight. Recheck the current timetable, since flight changes can affect bus service.

If the direct bus has a long wait: transfer at Okayama Station

  1. From airport bay 2, take the Okayama Station bus and get off at west-side bay 21.
  2. Go into the station, buy a 330-yen JR local-train ticket or check your supported IC-card balance, and enter the conventional rail gates.
  3. Choose a Sanyo Main Line local train toward Kurashiki/Fukuyama. Platforms 1 and 2 are typical, but use the departure board. A train displaying Fukuyama or Itozaki may be suitable: confirm that it stops at Kurashiki. The Yakumo limited express has additional charges and is not the local-train option priced here.
  4. After about 16–18 minutes, get off at Kurashiki and use South Exit. There is no JR station at the airport itself.

Shin-Kurashiki Station · 新倉敷駅 is a different station, served by the Shinkansen. It is not the starting point for the walk described below.

Walking from South Exit to the historic quarter

Follow Kurashiki Chuo-dori · 倉敷中央通り south to the 美観地区入口 intersection, then turn east toward the Kurashiki River. Another approach uses the lanes near Kurashiki Monogatari Museum · 倉敷物語館.

The official sightseeing map gives approximately 800 meters and a 10-minute walk from South Exit. Add the time to cross the station from the bus’s north-side arrival bay, and any additional walk to your hotel.

Leaving luggage before sightseeing

Okaden airport buses carry large suitcases in the underfloor compartment. Ask staff to load your bag and keep valuables with you. For the size and number of bags allowed on Chutetsu’s Kurashiki bus, consult its passenger guidance or call 086-222-6601. On JR local trains and trams, carry your own luggage and keep doors and aisles clear.

JR lists coin lockers at Okayama and Kurashiki stations. Check their size, availability and access hours on site; a large empty locker is not guaranteed.

Kurashiki’s tourism organization lists luggage storage at the station-front tourist information center for 500 yen per bag when lockers are unavailable. Ask about size limits and drop-off/pickup hours before going, especially if returning late. If your hotel accepts luggage before check-in, leaving it there may be another option.

Last buses and delayed arrivals

In the October 1–24, 2026 timetable, the last regular airport-origin bus to Okayama Station leaves at 21:25 and arrives at 21:55. The last direct Kurashiki bus leaves at 19:20 and arrives at 19:55. These are not the return departures from the stations to the airport. No weekday restrictions are marked for these last services; travel from October 25 needs the next timetable.

Okaden says airport-origin buses leave after aircraft arrivals, so delays can change the published schedule. The airport also lists extra Okayama Station buses coordinated with international arrivals from Incheon, Shanghai, Taipei and Kaohsiung. They leave a set period after arrival and are not listed in the regular timetable. This is not an extra ticket requirement or a claim of a flight from the United States.

Ask the operator or airport staff about an extra bus’s departure and whether it will wait for your delayed flight. Kurashiki service can also change with flight delays; ask which buses remain rather than assuming every arrival has a connection.

After the last direct Kurashiki bus

If Okayama buses and JR trains are still running, a transfer at Okayama Station may work. The JR search checked on October 4, 2026 listed the last Sanyo Main Line local train as Okayama 23:34 → Kurashiki 23:50. An on-time 21:55 airport-bus arrival leaves time for a later train, but congestion, delays or canceled trains can break that connection.

Search again for your travel date and allow time to walk from the bus bay to the rail gates and platform.

Unused tickets or no remaining public transportation

Ordinary airport-bus tickets are not reserved seats. Keep an unused paper ticket and ask its seller or operator whether it can be used on a later departure, changed to another destination or refunded, and what fees apply. Do not assume automatic conversion to another route or a free refund. A separately booked vehicle has its own change, cancellation and delay-contact rules.

If services have ended, use the official taxi stand outside the first-floor terminal and show your destination address. For a reserved vehicle, verify the meeting point and vehicle details with the company. Late-night availability is not guaranteed; tell your hotel your expected check-in time.

Official transportation purchase and reservation information

You can use the airport bus using a vending machine, cash, or transport IC card at the airport bus stop, and buy a ticket for the JR local train from Okayama Station to Kurashiki. You can check operation information and reservation contact information at the operator link below.

The airport's official flat-rate taxi information indicates ~7,100 yen for regular cars around Okayama Station and 9,800 yen around Kurashiki Station and Bikan Historical Quarter, based on general roads and one vehicle, and requires advance reservations. Asahi Taxi for Kurashiki Station and Bikan Historical Quarter is 086-242-0001.

Please check whether the accommodation address is included in the flat rate zone and the night surcharge, waiting fee, highway toll fee, and total amount before making a reservation. This amount is different from the regular metered taxi fare. Check the fare method of the vehicle you will be using.

When booking a rental car, check with the official list of companies for airport pick-up and transfer to the business office, pick-up time in case of delay, acceptable driver's license documents, and insurance and return conditions before making a reservation. If you're only exploring the city, compare routes by walking or using local transportation after arriving at the two stations.

If you have a rail pass, check the applicable conditions for the relevant JR section and do not assume that the airport bus fare is included.

Okayama Airport transportation FAQ

How do I get from Okayama Airport to Okayama Station?

Use airport bay 2 outside the first-floor arrival hall for a bus to Okayama Station West Exit. The adult one-way fare is 1,000 yen and the ride takes about 30 minutes. Immigration, baggage claim and waiting time are additional. The airport has no railway station.

Which side of Okayama Station does the bus arrive at?

The bus arrives at west-side bay 21 near West Exit. For east-side hotels, Korakuen or Okayama Castle, cross the second-floor east–west public passage to East Exit. No rail ticket is needed for the passage. Bay 21 is a bus bay, not a Shinkansen platform.

Do I need a bus reservation?

Ordinary passengers on both the Okayama and Kurashiki routes do not need reservations, but boarding depends on available seats. Buy a ticket at the bus-stop machine or use a supported payment method. Okaden’s contactless credit-card payment is at ticket machines, not onboard. Its wheelchair-accessible seating requires a phone reservation.

Is there a direct bus to Kurashiki?

Yes. In the October 1–24, 2026 timetable, Chutetsu runs from airport bay 3 to Kurashiki Station’s north-side bay 2. The adult fare is 1,400 yen and the ride takes about 35 minutes. The last airport departure is 19:20. Flight delays and weather can change service.

What if I miss the direct Kurashiki bus?

If services remain, take the 1,000-yen bus to Okayama Station and a 330-yen Sanyo Main Line local train to Kurashiki, totaling 1,330 yen. Combined ride time is about 46–48 minutes, plus waiting and the transfer. The October 4, 2026 JR search listed a last local train at 23:34 → 23:50. Recheck your date; a delayed bus does not guarantee a rail connection.

Are Kurashiki and Shin-Kurashiki the same station?

No. For the Bikan Historical Quarter walk, use Kurashiki Station’s South Exit. Shin-Kurashiki is a separate Shinkansen station and is not the start of that walk.

How do I reach Korakuen or Okayama Castle from the station?

Cross to East Exit. For Korakuen, take an Okaden bus toward Fujiwara Danchi from east-side bay 1 and get off at Korakuen-mae near the main gate. For the castle, take a Higashiyama-bound tram to Shiroshita, then walk about 10 minutes. The adult tram fare is 160 yen. Korakuen is also about a 10-minute walk from Shiroshita.

Can I walk from Kurashiki Station to the historic quarter?

Yes. The official tourism map gives about 800 meters and 10 minutes from South Exit. Follow Kurashiki Chuo-dori south, then turn east at the Bikan entrance intersection toward the river. Add time to cross the station from the airport bus’s north-side arrival bay.

Can I take a large suitcase?

Okaden airport coaches have underfloor luggage storage; ask staff to load your bag and keep valuables with you. Ask Chutetsu about size and quantity limits. Carry your own luggage on JR local trains and trams without blocking doors or aisles. Station lockers are subject to size, availability and access hours.

What if a delayed flight makes me miss the last bus?

For October 1–24, 2026, the last regular airport-origin buses are 21:25 to Okayama Station and 19:20 to Kurashiki. Service can change with aircraft delays, and additional Okayama buses for listed international arrivals are not shown in the regular timetable. Ask staff what remains. If public transportation has ended, use the official taxi stand or contact your reserved vehicle’s operator.
