Five Days in Gunma: A Historic Residence or Tropical Dome?
For a longer Takasaki stay, see the Kannon statue, paint a daruma, and visit history and modern art exhibits, with the city art museum and Former Inoue Residence on the final day. Residence interior hours are 10:00–11:00 a.m. and 2:00–4:00 p.m.; choose a Tokyo-bound train after viewing. The Kusatsu option adds a day of Tropical Wonderland animal viewing between the performance and three baths, returning to Shinjuku on the final day.

The 115th special exhibition, on Noh costumes revived in the modern era, runs September 18–November 23, 2026. Adult admission of ¥1,000 includes permanent exhibits. A Tomioka Day Trip While Staying in Takasaki
For industrial heritage, compare Tomioka Silk Mill with one exhibition day in the Takasaki cultural itinerary. Replace that day's destination instead of adding every attraction to the existing trip.
Round-trip Joshin Railway and a Walk to the Mill
From Takasaki Station's west side, take a local Joshin Railway train toward Shimonita and get off at Joshu-Tomioka. Walk about 15 minutes to the mill, then return to the same station for a Takasaki-bound train after viewing and lunch. The mill opens 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., last entry 4:30 p.m., and closes December 29–31. Choose both train directions for your date.
Regular Tickets or the JR TOKYO Wide Pass
Adult Joshin Railway round-trip tickets of ¥1,620 plus mill admission of ¥1,000 total ¥2,620, excluding meals and the separate ¥200 guide. The JR TOKYO Wide Pass includes Joshin Railway but excludes mill admission. A ¥16,000 three-consecutive-day pass is not a saving for this round trip alone. If replacing an exhibition day, remove its exhibition and bus costs too rather than keeping the original itinerary total.

One Night in Kusatsu from a Takasaki Stay
For culture and hot springs, compare replacing a day of your Takasaki stay with one night in Kusatsu. This is a change to the four-night itinerary, requiring replacement of that exhibition day and its travel and lodging costs.
Separate the Outbound Hot-Spring Day from the Takasaki Return
Choose a JR Agatsuma Line train from Takasaki toward Naganohara-Kusatsuguchi, then change to a Kusatsu Onsen-bound JR bus. On the travel day, walk from the terminal to Yubatake and explore the hot-spring town rather than adding museum visits. The next day, take a Naganohara-Kusatsuguchi-bound bus from the terminal and return to Takasaki by JR. Check service days and connections in both directions. JR buses cannot be reserved, and boarding is unavailable once capacity is reached; do not depend solely on the last bus.

Separate Rail, Bus, and Lodging Costs, Then Choose Baths
A full-trip total is not set for this alternative. Add JR round-trip tickets, JR round-trip buses, one night in Kusatsu, meals, and chosen performances and baths separately. Distinguish JR segments within the Wide Pass's three consecutive days from excluded JR buses. For all three baths, compare the ¥2,100 three-bath ticket with ¥2,900 individual admission. For one bath, choose individual admission first and add performances, towels, and lockers separately. Remove the original Takasaki itinerary's exhibition and bus costs for the replaced day. Do not reuse the four-night Kusatsu itinerary's Shinjuku direct-bus cost for this route.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Former Inoue Residence interior open throughout museum hours?
Interior viewing is split into 10:00–11:00 a.m. and 2:00–4:00 p.m., separate from Takasaki Museum of Art's exhibition hours. Choose one of those windows for the residence interior. Five-day itinerary A visits it in the afternoon before the return train from Takasaki. The Human Figure exhibition October 10–December 13, 2026 costs ¥300 for general admission including the residence. Recheck fees and closing days for other exhibition periods.
Can one JR TOKYO Wide Pass cover a five-day Takasaki trip?
Validity is three consecutive days from your chosen start. Starting on day 1 excludes the Tokyo return on day 5. Official coverage includes JR East and Joshin Railway, but Gururin buses, admission, and daruma painting are separate. Eligibility is for foreign nationals with non-Japanese passports; Temporary Visitor status is not required for this pass. At ¥16,000 per adult, it is not a saving without additional travel over this itinerary's ¥4,180 regular-train Tokyo–Takasaki round trip. Recompare actual routes and dates if adding Shinkansen or other trips.

When should I start the pass for one Kusatsu overnight during five days in Tokyo?
Choose three consecutive days covering both your Kusatsu outbound day and the following day's Tokyo return. Starting on day 1 excludes return rail travel on day 5. Compare other planned rail trips alongside Kusatsu before choosing regular tickets or a pass. JR buses, local lodging, meals, and baths are separate either way.
