For a walk among trees and flowers in central Sapporo, visit the Botanic Garden, Hokkaido University. Alpine plants, lilacs and autumn foliage give it a different appearance through the seasons.
It is close to JR Sapporo station, so you can include it on a city sightseeing day. Choose an outdoor opening day from spring to autumn.

Admission
During the outdoor opening season, admission is JPY 420 for ages 16 and over, or JPY 300 for ages 7–15. Children aged six and younger enter free.
Opening hours
From 29 April to 30 September, the garden opens from 09:00 to 16:30, with last admission at 16:00. From 1 October to 3 November, it opens from 09:00 to 16:00, with last admission at 15:30. It closes on Mondays, or the following day when Monday is a public holiday. See the visiting advice below for winter outdoor and glasshouse access.

How to get to Botanic Garden, Hokkaido University
Leave JR Sapporo station through the south exit and walk to the garden’s main gate, about ten minutes away. Use the main gate during the outdoor opening season.

The outdoor garden closes in winter
The outdoor garden closes from 4 November to 28 April. The existing facility guide also lists the glasshouse as closed to visitors. Check whether it has reopened before planning a winter glasshouse visit.
