For a walk among trees and flowers in central Sapporo, visit Hokkaido University's botanical garden. Alpine plants, lilacs, and fall foliage give it different seasonal scenery.
It is near JR Sapporo Station, making it an option on a downtown sightseeing day. Visit on an outdoor opening day between spring and fall.

During the outdoor opening season, admission is JPY 420 for ages 16 and older, JPY 300 for ages 7–15, and free for ages 6 and younger.
Opening hours
From April 29–September 30, the garden opens 9:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m., with admission until 4:00 p.m. From October 1–November 3, it opens 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., with admission until 3:30 p.m. It closes Mondays, or the following day if Monday is a public holiday. How to get to Botanic Garden, Hokkaido University
Leave JR Sapporo Station through the south exit and walk about 10 minutes to the garden's main gate. Enter there during the outdoor opening season.
Visit tips
The outdoor garden is closed in winter
The outdoor garden closes November 4–April 28. Existing facility information also lists the glasshouse as closed to visitors. Check whether it has reopened before planning a winter glasshouse visit.
