Zuihoden is Date Masamune’s mausoleum. Follow the wooded approach uphill and take time to look at the building and its decoration.

Individual admission costs JPY 570 for adults and university students, JPY 410 for senior high-school students and JPY 210 for primary and junior high-school students.

Opening hours

Zuihoden opens from 09:00 to 16:50 from 1 February to 30 November, with last admission at 16:30. From 1 December to 31 January, it opens from 09:00 to 16:20, with last admission at 16:00.

How to get to Zuihoden

Take Loople Sendai to Zuihoden-mae and climb the approach. There are about 80 steps to the entrance and another 30 in the grounds. Alternatively, take the Tozai subway line to Omachi Nishi-koen and walk about 15–20 minutes.

Stairs along the approach and inside

There are about 80 steps to the ticket office and another 30 within the grounds, with many stone-paved paths. If climbing and descending stairs is difficult, ask the facility which areas you can visit before going.

Zuihoden is closed on 31 December. On 1 January only Zuihoden opens; Kansenden, Zennoden and the historical museum are closed.

Can I visit Zuihoden without stairs?

There are about 80 steps to the ticket office and another 30 inside the grounds, so do not plan it as a stair-free visit. If you need mobility assistance, ask the facility beforehand which areas you can visit.
