Admission

For senior secondary students and adults, shrine admission is JPY 700, museum admission JPY 600, or JPY 1,200 for both. For primary and junior secondary students, each costs JPY 300, or JPY 500 for both. Ropeway fares are additional.

Opening hours

The shrine is open 9 am–5 pm, with admission until 4:50 pm. It is listed as open every day. Check the relevant information separately for the museum or special events.

How to get to Kunozan Toshogu Shrine

Board Nihondaira Ropeway at Nihondaira Station and leave at Kunozan Station. The one-way ride takes about five minutes, followed by about 80 steps up to the shrine buildings. Return down the steps to Kunozan Station for the ropeway. The standard timetable lists the first departure from Nihondaira at 9:10 am and the last return from Kunozan at 5 pm. Choose both services using the operating notices for your visit date.

Before you visit

There are steps after the ropeway

About 80 steps connect Kunozan ropeway station with the shrine buildings. The five-minute ropeway ride excludes ticketing, queues and the climb. After your visit, take the steps back to Kunozan Station.

Nihondaira Ropeway is scheduled to close for equipment works from 1 to 21 December 2026. During this period, the ropeway connection from Nihondaira to the shrine is unavailable. Check the operator’s notice if your dates overlap.

Does shrine admission include the museum and ropeway?

Shrine admission excludes both. To visit the museum, buy a separate museum ticket or the combined shrine and museum ticket. The ropeway fare is additional.
