Follow the underground passage to Aoi Tower Level 3, about three minutes away. This differs from the prefectural art museum. Check your date's exhibition hours and last admission time before viewing, allowing lunch and rest separately.

The city art museum opens from 10 am to 7 pm, with exhibition admission until 6:30 pm. It closes on Mondays, except public holidays when it opens and closes the next weekday instead. Return towards the station through the underground passage afterwards. For another exhibition period, recheck displays, prices and closures.

Day 2: Shizuoka Station → Nihondaira and Kunozan Toshogu → hotel

Choose a bus reaching Nihondaira Ropeway terminus. Check outbound and return services to and from Shizuoka in your date's weekday timetable or the timetable for weekends and public holidays. Allow ropeway, shrine and viewpoint time after summit arrival.

Prepare a return ropeway ticket and descend to Kunozan Station. After about five minutes riding, around 80 steps lead to shrine buildings. Tickets, queues and stairs are extra. If stairs are difficult or wind stops the ropeway, omit the shrine and focus on terrace views.

- Kunozan Toshogu Shrine → Shrine worship area
Use a shrine ticket for architecture and paid worship areas. Shrine admission costs JPY 700 for senior secondary students and adults; museum admission is separate. The shrine opens from 9 am to 5 pm, with admission until 4:50 pm, but finish your visit in time for your return bus.

Return down the stairs to Kunozan Station for the ropeway to Nihondaira. No walking route connects the two mountains. Have lunch and a rest at the summit, then follow terrace signs for a roughly three-minute walk. The outdoor viewing corridor is free; regular adult building admission costs JPY 100. The building opens from 9 am to 5 pm Sunday to Friday and from 9 am to 9 pm on Saturdays. It closes on the second Tuesday of each month, or the next weekday if that Tuesday is a public holiday. Fuji views depend on weather.

Reach the stop for your selected Shizuoka Station-front return bus. If delayed, shorten remaining sightseeing and breaks to catch it. Dine and head to your hotel after returning. The return-bus fare is outside this itinerary's partial subtotal.

Day 3: Shizuoka Station → displays in Sunpu’s reconstructed gate and turret → station

Walk about 15 minutes from the station to the park. View castle-history displays inside reconstructed Higashi Gate and Tatsumi Turret. Free park walks differ from paid interiors.

Regular admission costs JPY 200. The gate and turret open from 9 am to 4:30 pm, with admission until 4 pm. They close on Mondays except public holidays, with no replacement closure, and from 29 December to 3 January. Retrace the roughly 15-minute walk towards the station after viewing, then have lunch and depart. Follow works guidance for your date.

Day 2: Atami Station stand 8 → MOA exhibition → station

Take a museum-bound bus for about seven minutes to its terminus. Choose outward and Atami Station-bound return services for your date. M-marked buses do not operate on museum closure days.

Buy your ticket at the escalator entrance by the stop. Follow eight escalator sections for about 10 minutes to the upper plaza, then continue to the main entrance. Allow ticket queues separately.

View your date's exhibition, allowing lunch and rest separately. The museum usually opens from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm, with admission until 4 pm. It closes on Thursdays except public holidays. Check displayed works, exhibition run and opening calendar for changeover closures.

Descend the escalators to the stop and take your chosen Atami-bound bus. Exhibition-room-to-stop travel and waiting are outside the roughly seven-minute ride. Choose dinner or rest near the station.
Day 3: Atami Station → Sun Beach coast → station

After breakfast, walk about 20 minutes from the station to Sun Beach. Explore sand and seaside walking spaces, giving sea scenery a separate day from architecture and art.

Shorten your stay in heavy rain or strong wind. The station return is uphill: add rest and boarding access to the roughly 20-minute walk. Choose lunch en route or near the station. This is a coast walk; summer swimming and water park use are separate.

Ropeway closure: 1–21 December 2026
Nihondaira Ropeway is scheduled to close for equipment works. During this period, you cannot use the ropeway connection to Kunozan Toshogu Shrine in these itineraries. Even if you only want the terrace views, check the bus services and terrace opening dates separately.
Frequently asked questions
Can I choose just the viewpoint instead of the shrine on a two-night Shizuoka trip?
Yes. Choose Yume Terrace only if Toshogu stairs are difficult. Keeping the city art museum and Sunpu and omitting the ropeway and shrine gives checked partial costs JPY 2,610 with building viewpoint or JPY 2,510 for free outdoor corridor only. These use JPY 1,600 regular same-day Renoir admission for 22 September–15 November 2026. Nihondaira → Shizuoka return buses, accommodation and meals are separate. Choose return buses in your date's timetable.

Do I need buses for every visit over two Atami nights?
Kiunkaku first and Sun Beach last use roughly 20-minute walks from Atami Station. Only day-two MOA uses return buses from stand 8. The JPY 3,010 subtotal includes MOA JPY 2,000 + buses JPY 400 + Kiunkaku JPY 610. Budget separately if changing hill walks to buses or adding facilities.
