Air Canada Japan flights: check-in, refunds and delay claims

For an Air Canada-operated international flight, complete check-in and bag drop at least 60 minutes before scheduled departure. Be ready at the gate 45 minutes before departure; the gate closes 15 minutes before. If a bag is missing on arrival in Japan, see a baggage agent before leaving the airport.

Published Canada–Japan flight pairs

Air Canada Vacations’ official Asia schedule lists these flight pairs for the indicated October 2026 periods. Check the schedule’s operating days and your own booking; a published number does not confirm today’s departure or operating carrier.

Upcoming—not current October service: the same schedule lists Vancouver–New Chitose AC55 from December 17, 2026, and AC54 in the return direction from December 18. This is not a complete Canadian airport inventory. Use the airline’s status tools for the travel date.

Check your itinerary’s airport deadlines

Air Canada’s deadline table lists international check-in/bag-drop opening three hours before departure, followed by the 60/45/15-minute deadlines above. The same page also says bags can be accepted as early as four hours before departure. Do not treat that general statement as a confirmed opening time for a particular Japan flight; follow your itinerary and local counter instructions.

Narita’s airline listing places Air Canada at Terminal 1, South Wing, 4F. A fixed counter letter was not verified. This does not establish Air Canada’s location at Haneda or Kansai.

At Vancouver, YVR’s check-in guide directs passengers to Departures Level 3 and asks them to look up the flight number in Departing Flights for the actual counter. Do not substitute a gate number for a check-in counter. At Toronto Pearson, the airport airline directory lists Air Canada in Terminal 1, and its current maps page identifies Level 3 as check-in. Row assignments and Montréal, Haneda and Kansai details still require airport-specific confirmation.

Start with the ticket seller

Under Air Canada’s refund policy, an airline cancellation or a delay of at least three hours against the original departure or arrival time can qualify for an unused-ticket refund if you choose not to travel or accept the offered alternative. Other listed conditions may apply; a voluntary cancellation follows different fare rules.

Direct Air Canada bookings use Trips; agency bookings go back to the agency, and Air Canada Vacations packages use that separate seller. Compare the proposed replacement itinerary before accepting it. A ticket refund and disruption compensation are separate requests.

Report first, then keep the file number

  • Missing bag: if the final flight was Air Canada, use its baggage-report channel. On arrival outside Canada or the U.S., including Japan, see an agent before leaving. If the final flight was another airline, report to that airline.
  • After five days without locating the bag, Air Canada asks for its additional Baggage Tracing form.
  • Delayed-bag expenses: the airline asks for a reimbursement request within 21 days of receiving the bag, with flight details, incident number, original receipts, bag tags and boarding passes.
  • Damage: report immediately; the general instructions say complete the file or claim within seven days of receipt. Some location-specific steps say seven days of arrival—report promptly rather than relying on the longer interpretation. Keep the damaged bag until the claim is finalized.

Use Air Canada’s current baggage support instructions. A tracing report, a bag declared lost and a reimbursement claim are not interchangeable.

Compensation claims, documents and contact

Requesting a ticket refund does not submit a compensation claim. Air Canada’s disruption page provides the official “check your eligibility and submit a claim” link for disrupted travel and expenses, as well as status tools. Use that airline link rather than an unofficial claims-service form. A delay alone does not establish eligibility.

For your insurer, ask Air Canada for written confirmation of the event and reason, then check what documents your policy requires. An instant certificate download is not provided on JapanLiveNow.

The customer-support page separates reservations, baggage, receipt requests and feedback. Use its current directory for phone numbers and language-specific hours. Have your itinerary ready, but do not send booking references or insurance documents to JapanLiveNow.

Keep airline notifications, original/revised itineraries, written authorizations and itemized receipts. If permitted, photograph the departure board with the flight number, status and revised time visible. These records supplement—but do not replace—official documentation. Exclude other travellers’ personal details.

遅延または欠航の理由を、保険会社に提出できる書面で確認できますか。

Show this in Japan to request written disruption information for your insurer. Payment is subject to the policy; no insurance claim has been assessed here.

Read the Canadian APPR for applicable obligations. For an unresolved CTA complaint, first write to the airline and allow 30 days for a response. Report a factual correction.

Calling from Canada or Japan

YYC’s official airline directory lists Air Canada reservations at 1-888-247-2262 and baggage inquiries at 1-888-689-2247. Air Canada’s own support page states that its Canada/U.S. reservations service is available 24/7; do not transfer those hours to the baggage line.

For Japan, Narita’s Air Canada entry lists 050-3109-4894. That airport listing does not specify staffed hours or language. Before calling from outside Japan, use Air Canada’s international directory; do not assume a domestic Japanese number or Canadian toll-free number works abroad.
