WestJet Canada–Japan: check-in and disruption help

For a WestJet flight leaving Calgary, finish check-in at least 75 minutes before departure. At Tokyo Narita, WestJet is listed in Terminal 1’s North Wing, fourth floor. If plans change, use WestJet’s official interruption and contact channels—not another airline’s certificate form.

Reviewed October 2, 2026. WestJet’s current Asia page advertises daily, year-round Calgary–Tokyo flights, while YYC’s destination directory labels Tokyo/Narita as summer service. Check the airline schedule for your dates rather than treating either overview as a live timetable. WS80 and WS81 were verified in both directions in Narita’s October 2 board; the dated records below do not establish a full-season timetable.

Calgary and Narita have different check-in cut-offs

Calgary departure

WestJet lists a 75-minute check-in cut-off for Calgary, including international departures. Complete bag drop by the same cut-off. YYC’s official airline directory lists WestJet’s international check-in at Door 16, separately from domestic Doors 1–3. Door 16 is an entrance/location reference, not a boarding gate, counter number or flight-specific opening time. Follow the day’s WestJet signs.

Narita departure

Narita’s WestJet listing gives Terminal 1, North Wing, 4F. A permanent counter letter was not established. WestJet’s general international check-in cut-off is 60 minutes before departure.

WestJet’s check-in page recommends arriving 150 minutes before an international flight and being at the gate 40 minutes before departure; boarding closes 15 minutes before departure. Most airport counters open three hours before departure, but this is general guidance, not a flight-specific appointment.

Narita is listed among airports where check-in and bag-drop times do not move with a delayed flight. Keep the original instructions and confirm changes with WestJet; an updated departure time alone is not permission to arrive late.

If the flight is delayed or cancelled

Keep the original itinerary and airline emails; ask for the disruption reason, rebooking options and written evidence. For an agency booking, contact the seller; if departure is within 24 hours, WestJet also offers its contact channel. Read WestJet’s interruption policy before cancelling or paying replacement costs.

No public, self-service delay-certificate lookup was verified in the reviewed pages. Ask WestJet what written confirmation it can provide. An insurance claim form is not an airline certificate or proof that the insurer will pay.

After submitting a claim to your insurer, WestJet’s travel-insurance information request asks for the affected flight/date, reservation code, insurer details and claim number. WestJet states four to six weeks and says the information is emailed directly to the insurer. This is not an instant certificate download; no personal form was submitted during this review.

Insurance letter or WestJet compensation form?

These are separate requests. The insurance letter above supplies information to your insurer. For compensation for inconvenience, use WestJet’s flight delay and cancellation claim form. WestJet lists conditions including a WestJet-operated Canada flight, a disruption within its control and not required for safety, notice 14 days or less before departure, and arrival at your final destination at least three hours late.

WestJet says the form opens 72 hours after arrival or the interruption. That opening time is not the claim deadline: the CTA’s compensation guidance requires a written claim to the airline within one year. A refund, expense reimbursement and insurance payment have different conditions; no payment is guaranteed.

Report baggage problems promptly

  • Missing bag: WestJet asks for an online report within 12 hours of arrival, or a report to an arrival-airport baggage agent where available.
  • Damage: its online route asks for a report within five days of arrival; its airport route says bring the bag to baggage services within seven days of receipt. Report immediately and keep the file number.
  • Keep bag tags, damage photos, tracing messages and itemized receipts. Reporting, reimbursement and declaring a bag lost are separate steps.

Find the appropriate forms under Baggage on WestJet’s interruption page. These operational reporting instructions do not replace the applicable carriage terms or legal claim deadlines.

Rights and insurance are not the same as a certificate

Check the Canadian APPR for the disruption category and applicable obligations. For an unresolved complaint, CTA requires a written approach to the airline and 30 days for a response. Keep receipts, original/revised itineraries and correspondence, and check your own insurance policy. No personal claim or compensation eligibility has been assessed.
