Three days in Ishikawa: where should I spend the second night?
Stay two Kanazawa nights for market lunch, garden walks and both historic districts. For a hot spring night, split one night each in Kanazawa and Yamanaka, moving after Kenrokuen on day two. Add return-day Higashi Chaya only if the shuttle, IR train and return sightseeing buses fit your onward service. Airport travel and procedures take extra time.

Frequently asked questions
Does booking the inn automatically reserve the Yamanaka shuttle?
For Ohanami Kyubei, request the shuttle separately from your room booking by the previous day. It does not run at times without reservations. Board at the accommodation shuttle area at Kagaonsen Station's south exit, separate from local bus bay 2. Check shuttle conditions with other accommodation if staying elsewhere.
Can I see Higashi Chaya on the return day from the inn?
After the shuttle and IR local train return to Kanazawa Station, add Higashi Chaya if time remains before your onward service. Take the right loop from east exit bay 7 to Hashibacho outside Kinjoro, then walk about 5 minutes. The same right loop return via Kenrokuen, Korinbo and Omicho Market is longer than the outward ride. Compare shuttle, train and return buses together. If time is short, omit the historic district and go directly to your onward service at the station.

Does a Hokuriku rail pass cover the IR local train to Kagaonsen?
The hot spring itinerary's rail subtotal uses ordinary IR Kanazawa–Kagaonsen tickets at JPY 880 one way or JPY 1,760 return. The Hokuriku Area, Hokuriku Arch and Kansai–Hokuriku Area passes allow an exception on IR only for travel between Kanazawa and Tsubata without getting off at other IR stations. This exception does not apply to this itinerary's Kagaonsen stop. If changing to Shinkansen travel, reassess each pass's coverage, seat conditions, date-specific trains and shuttle connections. Check hot spring local buses and admission separately. Choose a pass after comparing your starting city and other journeys.
