With one night in Kagoshima, stay in the city or visit the island too?

Choose Sengan-en and Shiroyama for city gardens and views, or spend day one on Sakurajima and day two at the aquarium if the island is your priority. A late first-day arrival or early final departure may prevent sightseeing on both days.

Sengan-en and Shiroyama

Stay one night near Chuo Station, with Sengan-en on day one and Shiroyama on day two. This short trip gives a day each to the garden and views. Choose an arrival that leaves garden time on day one and an afternoon departure after the return loop bus on day two.

Day 1

  1. Kagoshima-Chuo Station → Visit Sengan-en

Take the daytime City View bus from east bus terminal stop East 4 to Sengan-en. The loop goes via Shiroyama first. Follow the operator’s entrance guide to see the garden, residence and Shoko Shuseikan. Add museum visiting and travel time to the suggested 90 minutes for just the garden and residence.

  2. Sengan-en → A meal in Tenmonkan and Chuo Station

After visiting, take City View in the same loop direction. For dinner in Tenmonkan, get off at the stop on the city-bound part of the route. If based at Chuo Station, continue to the terminus, eat and go to your accommodation.

Sengan-en’s last entry is 16:30 and closing time 17:00. If you arrive late, move the visit to another day with enough time for the garden and museum.

Day 2

  1. Kagoshima-Chuo Station → Shiroyama Observatory

Take the daytime City View bus from East 4 to Shiroyama. Follow signs on foot to the observatory for views of the city, Kinko Bay and Sakurajima. Plan a full nature-trail walk separately.

  2. Shiroyama Observatory → Kagoshima-Chuo Station and departure

Return from the observatory to the stop and board in the same loop direction. The route returns to Chuo Station via Sengan-en and the aquarium, so allow this loop journey and waiting time before choosing your final departure.

Coordinate the return City View bus from Shiroyama with your final departure from Chuo Station. The loop returns via Sengan-en and the aquarium, requiring time for travel and waits in both directions.
