Where should I stay in Kanagawa?
Choose Yokohama for harbour visits and meals, or Kamakura and Fujisawa for temples and Enoshima. For a night in Hakone and a museum visit, compare accommodation in Yumoto and Gora. Gora requires a mountain train journey farther uphill from Yumoto. If your flight home is early, decide whether to spend your final night in Hakone or move closer to the airport first.
Yokohama and Kamakura are separate cities in Kanagawa Prefecture. Enoshima is in Fujisawa City, while Hakone is in Hakone Town. If visiting all four, compare itineraries that change accommodation.
Harbour, garden, temples, island or art museum: Which should I visit?
Compare Yokohama for the ship and harbour exhibits, Hasedera and Kotoku-in for temple visits, and Enoshima for island views. Choose Sankeien for a garden or Hakone’s Open-Air Museum for outdoor sculpture in the mountains. Each attraction uses different stations and journeys, so check prices, last admission and walking routes first.
Itineraries by trip length
Compare staying in Yokohama with separate nearby day trips against moving to Fujisawa or Hakone. Each route sets out transfers, walks, visits and the return journey for each sightseeing day.
2 days, 1 night
Route A pairs Yokohama’s harbour and Sankeien; route B gives Kamakura’s temples and Enoshima a day each.
3 days, 2 nights
Route A separates harbour and temple days while staying in Yokohama; route B uses two nights in Yumoto for history exhibits and the art museum.
4 days, 3 nights
Route A uses Yokohama for separate temple and island day trips; route B moves to Hakone for one night towards the end.
5 days, 4 nights
Route A spends one night in Hakone and the final night in Yokohama; route B uses three nights in Fujisawa.
Which base makes travel convenient?
Yokohama Station
Choose this area for trains to other cities or a Kamakura day trip.
Check the destination station separately for the harbour. Minatomirai and Motomachi-Chukagai are different Minatomirai Line stations from Yokohama Station.
Sakuragicho and Minatomirai
Compare accommodation around Sakuragicho and Minatomirai if you plan frequent walks around Nippon Maru and the harbour.
JR Sakuragicho and Minatomirai Line stations are separate. Check the walk from your accommodation address to the station you will use, and plan the return after meals around that same station.
Kamakura and Fujisawa
Choose these bases to combine Kamakura’s temples with coastal trips by Enoden.
Compare Kamakura for temple-focused visits, or Fujisawa for boarding at Enoden’s western terminus and transfers to other railways.

Hakone-Yumoto
Compare Yumoto as a base for an overnight Hakone trip continuing to the Open-Air Museum and Gora.
Ask your booked property about the station-to-accommodation route and whether a bus or accommodation shuttle is needed. Check whether shuttle service and hot-spring access are included in the room price.

Gora
This base suits the Hakone Open-Air Museum and a stay in the mountains.
It requires further mountain-railway travel from Yumoto. To reduce Hakone travel on the day of your flight home, move towards Yokohama the day before.
Choosing regional transport and passes
Calculate Enoden travel separately for each day
The adult one-day pass costs ¥800 and is valid only on its sale date. Return fares are ¥400 between Kamakura and Hase, ¥520 between Kamakura and Enoshima, ¥620 between Fujisawa and Hase, and ¥440 between Fujisawa and Enoshima. One daily pass cannot cover return journeys on two dates. Decide whether you will only make the listed return trip or also stop at other stations, then compare tickets for each day. The Enoden daily pass excludes JR, Keikyu, the Hakone mountain railway and facility admission.
Compare the Hakone Freepass by departure station and actual journeys
An adult two-day pass costs ¥7,100 from Shinjuku or ¥6,000 from Odawara. It covers designated Hakone transport and one return Odakyu journey between the selected departure station and Odawara. JR from Yokohama to Odawara, airport trains, Romancecar limited-express supplements and Open-Air Museum admission cost extra. This itinerary excludes the lake and ropeway. In the two-night/three-day B route, return travel to Odawara plus Yumoto → museum → Gora → Yumoto totals ¥1,800 in regular rail fares, below the ¥6,000 Odawara pass. Compare individual tickets if you only use these rail legs. If adding a bus to your accommodation, check both its eligibility and actual fare.

Plan your Hakone stay around your flight home
On day one, travel from the airport to your base station and choose sightseeing according to your arrival time. Dinner deadlines, bathing hours, shuttles and luggage storage at your Hakone accommodation depend on your booking terms; confirm them before choosing an itinerary. On departure day, allow separately for collecting bags, reaching the station, waiting, transfers, train travel, terminal access and airport procedures. Leaving Hakone also requires time to travel down to Odawara. For a morning flight, move to a city with airport access the day before and skip sightseeing on the final day. These routes suggest a visiting order; choose actual departure times using services and booking conditions for your travel date.

Budgets are for one adult using a same-day Open-Air Museum ticket and individual Enoden fares. Days using both Enoshima’s tower and Escar include the ¥1,100 daytime package. On event days, the route leaves the garden before 5 p.m.; evening garden admission is extra. Subtotals exclude JR, the Minatomirai Line, airport travel, travel between stations and accommodation, meals, accommodation, separate hot-spring bathing, the Great Buddha interior and extra activities. Routes visiting Nippon Maru and the port museum on different days include separate ¥400 and ¥500 tickets. The ¥800 same-day combined ticket cannot be split across two dates. JR travel between Fujisawa and Tsujido also costs separately from the free ukiyo-e museum visit. Prices were checked October 8, 2026.
Admission and transport included in the route subtotals →Compare Enoden tickets separately for each visiting day
The Noriorikun one-day pass costs ¥800 for adults or ¥400 for children and covers all Enoden lines on its issue date. In the one-night/two-day B route, return travel between Kamakura and Hase costs ¥400, followed by ¥520 between Kamakura and Enoshima the next day: ¥920 altogether. This is ¥680 less than buying two daily passes for ¥1,600. Regular adult one-way fares are ¥200 between Kamakura and Hase, ¥310 between Fujisawa and Hase, and ¥220 between Fujisawa and Enoshima; return fares are ¥400, ¥620 and ¥440 respectively. If you only make these return journeys, individual fares cost less than the daily pass. Admission, JR and airport travel are extra. Prices were checked October 8, 2026.

An adult two-day pass costs ¥7,100 from Shinjuku or ¥6,000 from Odawara. If travelling from Yokohama to Odawara by JR, compare the Odawara product with individual fares. JR travel between Yokohama and Odawara, Romancecar limited-express supplements and museum admission cost extra. Follow the official coverage table for eligible local transport and facility discounts. A pass is not necessarily cheaper for a return trip to the museum alone. Prices were checked October 8, 2026.
Compare Hakone Freepass options by departure station and route →Hakone mountain railway and Sankeien bus fares
Adult one-way mountain railway fares are ¥360 between Odawara and Yumoto and ¥460 between Yumoto and Chokoku-no-Mori. A museum-only return trip from Yumoto costs ¥920. Adding Gora, as in the two-night/three-day B route, uses ¥160 from Chokoku-no-Mori to Gora and ¥460 from Gora to Yumoto, totalling ¥1,080 that day. Museum admission, accommodation access and JR cost extra. Yokohama municipal buses cost ¥220 for adults by cash or IC card. Board at the front and pay first. Two rides to and from Sankeien total ¥440. Prices were checked October 8, 2026.

For Chinese food in Yokohama, consider steamed dumplings such as shumai. For a rich broth, try Iekei ramen, which combines pork-bone broth with soy sauce. Use the Yokohama restaurant guide to choose the neighbourhood you will visit. Eat near Hase or Kamakura stations rather than eating while walking inside Kamakura’s temples.

Kanagawa Prefecture · 神奈川県
Choose Yokohama for the harbour and ship, Kamakura for temples and the Great Buddha, or Enoshima for island sea views. Adding Hakone’s museum and hot-spring accommodation requires separate time to travel into the mountains by rail. Your return route also depends on whether you stay in Yokohama throughout or move to Hakone.
Sakuragicho · 桜木町: Harbour ship and exhibits
Nippon Maru and the port museum are within walking distance of Sakuragicho Station. Choose Nippon Maru for the ship interior or the museum for harbour history. A same-day combined ticket differs from separate tickets used on different days. If arriving late, choose a waterfront walk or meal instead of rushing to meet indoor admission deadlines.

Sankeien: A garden day separate from the harbour
Set aside a half-day at Sankeien for its garden and historic buildings. Take a bus from Yokohama Station’s east exit, then walk from the stop to the main gate. The garden is not beside the harbour waterfront, so you do not need to fit it and the ship into the same short arrival day. Allow for return bus travel and walking before heading back to Yokohama.
Hase · 長谷: Walk between two temples
Take the Enoden from Kamakura or Fujisawa to Hase Station, then walk between Hasedera and Kotoku-in. Each temple charges separately, and Hasedera has stairs within its grounds. After seeing the Great Buddha, eat near Hase Station before returning. Adding sightseeing in Hakone’s mountains on the same day leaves less time for the temples.

Enoshima · 江の島: Island views and daytime garden
Give Enoshima its own day, separate from the temples, for sea views and island walks. From Enoden Enoshima Station, cross the bridge and continue through Nakamise Street and up the island’s slopes to Sea Candle. The Escar runs uphill only, so leave time to walk down. The garden is free during the day, while the tower charges admission; distinguish evening garden fees on event days.
Tsujido · 辻堂: Free print exhibition
Visit the ukiyo-e museum in Tsujido for prints depicting Fujisawa and Enoshima. Walk about 5 minutes from JR Tsujido Station’s north exit to the seventh floor of Cocco Terrace Shonan. Exhibition admission is free, but JR travel between Fujisawa and Tsujido costs extra. This indoor visit differs from temple and island sightseeing and can have its own arrival-day slot, as in the four-night/five-day B route.
Hakone-Yumoto · 箱根湯本: Hot-spring accommodation and museum visits
Use Yumoto as a base for relaxing at hot-spring accommodation, local history exhibits and outdoor sculpture. Putting the history museum and art museum on separate days leaves room for both visits and time at your accommodation. The art museum and Gora require a mountain train journey farther uphill from Yumoto. Compare the two-night/three-day B route’s two nights in Yumoto with the four-night/five-day A route’s one night followed by a return to Yokohama before departure. For a morning flight, travel down from the mountains the day before and spend your final night somewhere with easier airport access.

Frequently asked questions
Can I visit Kamakura’s temples and Hakone’s museum on the same day?
Give each area its own day if you want time to explore. In Kamakura, walk between Hasedera and the Great Buddha. In Hakone, travel farther uphill from Yumoto by mountain train to the museum. Combining them adds travel between the two areas and reduces visiting time.
