Stay in Nagasaki city or continue to Sasebo?

Base yourself in Nagasaki city for Dejima, Glover Garden and Mount Inasa. For Kujukushima cruises, consider Sasebo accommodation and intercity travel separately.

Choose harbour attractions, night views or a cruise first

Compare Dejima/Glover historical buildings, museum exhibits and Mount Inasa views. Kujukushima cruises leave Sasebo, a different travel direction. Check five facilities' prices, hours and access before choosing a duration route.

Itineraries by duration

First choose harbour attractions/exhibits in Nagasaki city or moving to Sasebo for cruises. Compare two routes per duration, from short city visits to split-city stays. These use Nagasaki Airport; reduce or omit last-day visits to fit airline check-in.

2 days, 1 night

Compare one city night with separate Dejima/Glover days against museum/Dejima visits. Reduce first-day visits for late arrivals; omit second-day sightseeing for morning flights.

3 days, 2 nights

Choose separate daytime/Mount Inasa visits in Nagasaki city or two Sasebo nights with a day 2 cruise. These do not move between both cities.

4 days, 3 nights

Choose three city nights with visits spread by day or one Nagasaki night followed by two Sasebo nights. The latter separates intercity transfer and cruise days.

5 days, 4 nights

Compare four Nagasaki city nights for unhurried daytime/night visits with two nights in each city. The split route visits harbour attractions before moving to Sasebo and giving the cruise a day.

Where would you like to spend a day?

Dejima, Shinchi and Glover Garden

For Edo-period trade, see Dejima's restored trading post/exhibits; for Western-style houses and harbour views, see Glover Garden. Eat in Shinchi between harbour attractions. Admission is separate at each; reach Glover via Ishibashi and Sky Road. Give visits different days if time is tight.

Atomic Bomb Museum and hypocentre park

Give indoor exhibits unhurried time, then see the monument and surviving cathedral wall outdoors. Where the connecting elevator is suspended, use the city's detour. Hypocentre park and Peace Statue areas are different places.

Mount Inasa night views

Visit in the evening after daytime city sightseeing. Free shuttles require reservations; ropeway costs extra. If weather suspends operation, eat in the city and move views to another operating day.

Sasebo and Kujukushima

Cruising between islands requires another bus from Sasebo Station to Pearl Sea Resort. Separate Sasebo stay days make matching sailings and returns easier than a short addition to Nagasaki city sightseeing.

Which stop should you use?

Uphill to Glover Garden

Go from Nagasaki-ekimae to Shinchi Chinatown and transfer towards Ishibashi. Use Sky Road's inclined/vertical elevators to upper gate 2. Return through gate 2 and elevators to Ishibashi. Allow separate tram waits and garden stone-path walking.

Between museum and hypocentre park

For museum-only visits, use its stop and retrace your route. For park walks too, use the city map's downhill detour and a station-bound tram from Peace Park. Check elevator suspension and on-site restrictions.

City trams, Sasebo highway buses, cruises and ropeway are extra. If flying from Fukuoka, allow airport travel after Hakata arrival. Eligibility requires a non-Japanese passport, residence outside Japan and tourist entry as a Temporary Visitor. Check the passport stamp/sticker and carry it when using the pass. With automated immigration, ask airport staff for a stamp/sticker.

What should you eat in Nagasaki?

On a Dejima day, choose champon or sara udon in Shinchi Chinatown. On a cruise day, eat at Pearl Sea Resort or return near Sasebo Station for burgers/lemon steak.

Champon and sara udon

Champon combines vegetables, seafood, meat and noodles cooked together in broth. Sara udon tops noodles with thick sauce and ingredients, using either thin crisp or thick noodles. Lunch/dinner in Shinchi after Dejima combines nearby journeys.

Turkish rice and kakuni manju

Turkish rice combines pilaf, spaghetti, pork cutlet and other items on a plate; composition/sauces vary by shop. Kakuni manju puts braised pork inside a soft bun. Check menus/hours and choose meals or snacks between visits.

Sasebo burgers and lemon steak

Look for burgers with shop-specific sauces/ingredients and thin-sliced beef with lemon-flavoured sauce in Sasebo. Eat at the resort before/after cruising, or choose a meal back near Sasebo Station.
