Day 1: Kansui Park walk

    Walk about nine minutes from Toyama Station’s north exit to Kansui Park. Allow separately for hotel–station travel, movement within the station and traffic-light waits.

  2. Kansui Park waterfront → Tenmon Bridge and observation towers

    Walk along the canal in the afternoon. Waterfront walks and park admission are free; the park itself is always open. Tenmon Bridge and its observation towers are landmarks, but tower hours are 09:00–21:30, separate from park access. In good weather, spend time by the canal and bridge; shorten the walk in strong wind or rain. Cruises, cafés and meals are excluded from this free walk.

    Return to the station’s north exit in the evening, then travel to your booked hotel. The park–station walk is about nine minutes. Allow time for dinner and station–hotel travel. Visit the museum exhibition tomorrow morning; day one’s evening is for the park walk and dinner.

Day 2: museum collection, then departure from Toyama

See the Toyama Prefectural Museum of Art and Design collection, then return to Toyama Station.

  1. Toyama Station north exit → Toyama Prefectural Museum of Art and Design

    Walk from the station’s north exit to the museum. Its official directions give about 15 minutes from that exit. For the 09:30 opening, leave your hotel early enough for the walk, movement within the station and traffic lights. Buses via the museum also depart from north bay 1; get off at the museum stop. Check fares, waits and the walk after alighting separately from the 15-minute walking estimate.

    See the collection after opening. Ordinary hours are 09:30–18:00, last admission 17:30; adult collection admission is JPY 350. Allow about two hours, depending on exhibition changeovers and your pace. Special exhibitions cost extra. Distinguish free building access from paid collection admission. For lunch or the rooftop, check individual operating and weather conditions.

Day 2: Zuiryuji and Amaharashi Coast

Visit Zuiryuji, then Amaharashi Coast.

  1. Toyama Station → Takaoka Station south side, then Zuiryuji

    Take a westbound Ainokaze Toyama Railway local train from Toyama to Takaoka. This differs from Shinkansen-served Shin-Takaoka Station. Adult fare is JPY 390 one way. Leave Takaoka’s south side and walk about 10 minutes to Zuiryuji.

  2. Zuiryuji Temple → Takaoka Station and JR ticket preparations

    Visit the temple from 09:00, then return to the station. Ordinary adult admission is JPY 500. Afterwards, walk towards Takaoka Station and allow an early lunch and JR ticket purchase. Check both return rail sections’ timetables before visiting so the coastal trip fits after the temple.

  3. Takaoka Station JR Himi Line → Amaharashi Station, then the coast

    Take a Himi-bound JR Himi Line train from Takaoka to Amaharashi. Adult fare is JPY 240 one way; walk about five minutes to the coast. Mountain views depend on weather. Choose the Takaoka-bound return train first and allow time to walk to the station.

  4. Amaharashi Station → Takaoka Station

    Return to Amaharashi Station and take a Takaoka-bound JR Himi Line train. Check your date’s timetable and suspension notices. At Takaoka, transfer to Ainokaze for Toyama, choosing both return sections together.

  5. Takaoka Station → Toyama Station

    At Takaoka, change to an eastbound Ainokaze Toyama Railway local train towards Toyama. The adult fare is JPY 390 one way. Allow time after leaving the JR Himi Line to buy your Ainokaze ticket and reach the platform. If delayed, check station information for the next Toyama-bound service.

Frequently asked questions

Can I visit Amaharashi on day two and then leave directly from Toyama?

Yes, if both return rail connections reach Toyama in time for your departure and leave enough time to move through the station. Take the JR Himi Line from Amaharashi to Takaoka, then Ainokaze Toyama Railway to Toyama. Check long-distance trains and airport transfers separately against your actual departure.
