New Chitose Airport to Sapporo, Odori and Susukino
For a hotel near Sapporo Station, compare JR airport trains first. For Odori or Susukino, transfer to the subway at Sapporo or choose an airport bus with a stop near your hotel. With large luggage, check both the transfers and the final walking distance.

JR → Sapporo Station
Approximately 33 to 44 minutes · Non-reserved seat 1,230 yen
The 33–44 minutes cover the train ride from New Chitose Airport Station to Sapporo Station. Walk to nearby hotels, or add a subway transfer or a longer walk for Odori and Susukino.
If you add 1,000 yen for a u-seat reserved seat ticket, the total is 2,230 yen. An Ekinet ticketless reserved seat ticket costs 800 yen, and the total, including the basic fare, is 2,030 yen.
Airport bus → city center stop
Adult one-way 1,500 yen
For regular city-centre buses departing from the domestic terminal’s ANA-side stop, allow about 68 minutes to Minami 3-jo Susukino, 72 minutes to Odori Park and 77 minutes to Sapporo Station. These buses serve the international terminal later; use the departure and arrival times for your actual boarding stop.
Depending on the order of hotel stops, some routes take approximately 95 minutes to reach the final destination. Traffic, snow and diversions can lengthen the journey.
JR + Namboku Line → Odori and Susukino
Total 1,440 yen for non-reserved seats
The total is JR 1,230 yen plus subway 210 yen. At JR Sapporo Station, walk to the subway station and enter through its separate gates. The subway ride takes about 2 minutes to Odori or 3 minutes to Susukino; add the transfer walk, waiting and the route from the exit to your hotel.
Direct bus → Susukino/Nakajima Park
1,500 yen · Limited departures
The direct buses leave the international terminal at 14:16 and 16:16. They serve Sapporo Station, Odori Park, Susukino (Minami 4 Nishi 1) and Nakajima Park, in that order. The stops differ from those on the regular city-centre route.
From the domestic terminal’s ANA-side bus stop, it is approximately 65, 73, 77, and 80 minutes. These are limited departures, not an hourly service.

Allow time before boarding and after arrival
Journey times above start at boarding. Add immigration, baggage collection, the walk from arrivals to the station or bus stop, ticketing, waiting and the route from the city stop to your hotel. Immigration and baggage times vary by flight and airport congestion.
With the 10–15-minute planning allowance for the walk from international arrivals to the JR station, walking and the train ride to Sapporo total about 43–59 minutes. Ticketing, waiting and the final walk to your hotel are additional.
For Odori and Susukino, add the JR-to-subway transfer, the 2–3-minute subway ride and the walk from the exit. For buses, add the walk down to the international terminal’s first floor, waiting, the journey from your boarding stop and the final walk.
If there is a nearby stop, you can reduce transfers, but it is not always faster than JR.
From the international arrival hall to JR New Chitose Airport Station
JR New Chitose Airport Station · 新千歳空港駅 is located on the first basement level of the domestic terminal. The international arrival lobby is on the second floor, so instead of going down to the first floor where the bus stop is located, follow the connecting passage to the domestic terminal.
- After completing immigration and baggage claim at the international terminal 2nd floor arrival lobby, follow the signs for ‘国内線 / Domestic’ and ‘JR’.
- Stay on the second floor and cross the indoor connecting passage to the domestic terminal. Continue towards its central area. On the airport floor map, the international terminal is west and the domestic terminal is east.
- From the domestic terminal, go down to the JR station on the 1st basement floor, follow the JR signs and elevator/escalator directions, and prepare your ticket. On the airport's official page, there are two videos showing the route from Center Plaza on the second floor of the domestic terminal to the station.
- Check the departure board for a train stopping at Sapporo, then continue to your hotel or the subway after arrival. Allow about 10–15 minutes to walk from the international arrivals lobby to the station with luggage. This is an editorial planning allowance, not a measured or guaranteed time. Add lift queues, ticketing and waiting.
Construction notice: The 3rd floor connecting passage is scheduled to be closed from September 2, 2026 to the end of June 2027. This guide uses the 2nd floor route. Lift No. 5 in the domestic terminal will also be out of service from 23:30 on October 5, 2026 to 17:00 on October 23, 2026, so if you have a lot of luggage, please check the temporary movement route and facility notices on site. From 09:00 to 16:00, the standard service is six trains per hour. The first train to leave is also the first to reach Sapporo. Non-reserved tickets do not guarantee a seat; you may need to stand. To use the u-seat in Car 4, you need a reserved seat ticket that matches the train and seat you reserved. Kitaca or Suica can cover the basic fare; a u-seat reservation is separate. New Chitose Airport bus stop: International 84, domestic 14 and 22
From international arrivals on the second floor, go down to first-floor bus stop 84. Take your city-bound bus, get off at the correct stop and continue to your hotel. For buses to Sapporo city centre, use stop 14 on the first-floor ANA side of the domestic terminal, stop 22 on the JAL side, or stop 84 on the first floor of the international terminal.
Do not confuse it with other bus stops and check the destination on the electronic display board.

Regular and direct buses use different arrival stops
Regular city-centre buses run via Fukuzumi and Toyohira to Minami 3-jo Susukino · 南3条すすきの, Odori Park and Sapporo Station. The separate direct bus serves Sapporo Station first, then stops at Susukino (Minami 4 Nishi 1) · すすきの(南4西1).
Minami 4 Nishi 3 is a stop for the opposite, city-to-airport direction. Do not use it as your airport-bus arrival point.
Seats, payment and luggage
These regular buses to the city are on a first-come, first-served basis without prior seat reservations, and if they are full, you will have to wait for the next bus. Buying a ticket in advance does not guarantee you a specific seat. Hokuto Kotsu lists cash, contactless payment with supported credit cards and PayPay. Check the payment methods supported by the operating company and vehicle, and don't just rely on your transport IC card, but prepare cash as well. You can check payment methods in the Hokuto usage FAQ and Chuo Bus usage guide. FAQ on using Hokuto · Chuo Bus payment and travel information
According to Hokuto's guidelines, trunk baggage is limited to one suitcase per person, and cannot be loaded if there is insufficient space. Please inquire in advance for multiple pieces of large or special baggage. You must carry the power bank yourself and not put it in the trunk.
When picking up your luggage at your destination, it is a good idea to check your tags and bags and save the name of the stop you get off on to your phone.
Airport boarding points and Sapporo arrival stops
Locations are shown on a Geospatial Information Authority of Japan (GSI) basemap. The blue dotted line is JR, brown is regular bus, purple is the direct bus, green is the subway, and violet marks terminal walks and transfers. The dotted lines are guide lines connecting travel directions and are not actual railroad tracks, roads, or indoor walking routes.
Select a number to zoom to its location. Use the airport and city view buttons to distinguish nearby pins.
Airport pins are representative locations for each floor area, so specific doors or floors cannot be found using the map screen alone. Bus pins use coordinates checked against the operator’s stop maps. JR and subway pins indicate station reference locations.
For regular and direct bus services, stops with the same name are marked separately at different locations. Use the official airport map for the route to your boarding stop, and the walking map and station exit information below for the final route to the accommodation.
From Sapporo Station, Odori or Susukino to your hotel
Accommodations around Sapporo Station
For a hotel near Sapporo Station · 札幌駅, follow this route: International Terminal Lobby → Domestic Terminal B1 JR Station → JR Sapporo Station → Exit towards the accommodation → walk. The exits for the northern and southern hotels are different, so check the address of the accommodation you reserved first.
The bus stop in front of Sapporo Station is not a JR platform. The drop-off points for regular and direct bus services are also different. Keio Plaza Hotel Sapporo · 京王プラザホテル札幌 has a hotel stop on the general city center timetable, but you must also consider the order of stops after the JR station.
Transfer to the subway at JR Sapporo Station
After exiting the JR ticket gate, follow the signs for Sapporo Station N06 on the Namboku Subway Line and go south underground. JR’s ‘札幌’ and subway’s ‘さっぽろ’ are different ticket gates. Take a train towards Makomanai · 真駒内. Odori (N07) is one stop away and Susukino (N08) is two.
Hosui-Susukino Station · 豊水すすきの駅 on the Toho Line is different from Susukino Station on the Namboku Line.
The subway is not included in the JR fare and JR pass and must be paid separately. If you have large luggage, check the official station map first for elevators and exits toward your accommodation. Official station maps and exits
Accommodations around Odori Park and Odori Station
Odori Park · 大通公園 stretches east to west. International Terminal → JR Station → Sapporo → Namboku Line Odori Station · 大通駅 → Exit towards your hotel. If you're staying west of the park, you should also look into walking or taking the additional subway from Odori Station.
Bus: International Terminal 84 → ‘Odori Park’ stop → Walk. The drop-off points for regular and direct bus services are different, and neither refers to the entire park or in front of all hotels.

Susukino accommodation
For hotels near Susukino Station · すすきの駅: International terminal → JR station → Sapporo → Namboku Line Susukino N08 → Walk. To reduce transfers, take a regular city bus from International Terminal 84 and get off at South 3-jo Susukino and walk to your accommodation.
If a direct bus fits your arrival time, compare its Minami 4 Nishi 1 stop.

Check your hotel name and the arrival time for the bus you plan to take; not every bus serves every hotel.
For Nakajima Park · 中島公園, compare the limited direct bus with JR followed by the Namboku Line to Nakajima-Koen Station (N09). Add the walk from the bus stop to your hotel. Direct bus, Nakajima Park stop → Walking route around the station ↗
Winter walks and underground passages
Chikaho · Sapporo Ekimae-dori Underground Walkway · 札幌駅前通地下歩行空間 connects approximately 520m between Sapporo Subway Station and Odori Station, and the official opening hours are 05:45 to 00:30 the next day. Please note that the walk from Sapporo Station to Odori is approximately 10 minutes, depending on departure exit and luggage.
Odori and Susukino are linked by the separate Pole Town underground shopping mall · ポールタウン.
Just by looking at the Chikaho time, you should not assume that the doors connecting Pole Town and the department store and the hotel entrance are all open. The reviewed official sources do not establish Pole Town’s passage opening hours. Please check the Chikaho opening information, underground shopping mall information, and site entrance signs. Sections that are not connected indoors to the accommodation may take longer due to snow and ice, so it is a good idea to bring non-slip shoes and extra time. The last buses leave domestic stop 14 (ANA side) at 22:55 and stop 22 (JAL side) at 22:37. Do not wait at the JAL-side stop for the final ANA-side departure. The last bus from the international terminal is scheduled to reach Minami 3-jo Susukino at 00:03 the next day, at Odori Park at 00:07, and in front of Sapporo Station at 00:12.
Bus timetable by bus stop and destination ↗You cannot assume that you can catch the last bus just by looking at the landing time. Transferring to the subway or using underground passages is not automatically possible after the last bus arrives. Also check your accommodation's late check-in deadline and the distance you have to walk after getting off.
After public transport has finished
There are official regular taxi and reserved taxi stands on the first floor of both the international and domestic terminals. The fare varies depending on destination, driving conditions, tolls, and late-night surcharges, so there is no fixed amount listed. If you have several people and large luggage, ask first about the number of passengers and the amount of luggage. You can use the airport's official taxi map. Official airport taxi stand map
For reservation pickup, please compare the reservation number, meeting location, waiting time in case of flight delay, and no-show conditions confirmed by the company. Official airport information centers provide reservation vehicle information, but do not guarantee late-night on-site reservations or vehicle availability.
If you have difficulty traveling on the day, check the official airport hotel information for available rooms, check-in, and transportation methods. Don't assume terminals and connectors will be open overnight. Official airport hotel information
If a flight delay affects your train reservation
For Ekinet ticketless reserved seats, changes and refunds must be processed on the web before the departure of the reserved train and before 23:50. Changes depend on available seats, and refund fees apply. After departure, unused reserved seat tickets are invalid and cannot be used for the next reserved seat.
A separate valid basic ticket is required to use non-reserved seats. For paper reserved seating tickets, check the rules at the ticket counter, and for passes, check the exchange/activation/seat reservation status.
The regular city-bound airport bus does not offer specific seat reservations, so you can check later bus departures and seat availability. Please follow the terms and conditions of the seller regarding the expiration date and refund of tickets purchased in advance. For separately scheduled pickups, you must inquire with the company whether flight delay is grounds for automatic cancellation/refund. Ticketless change/non-boarding conditions ↗
In winter, check flights, JR, and buses separately.
- Check the airport’s flight information and your airline’s notices. Same-day flights from New Chitose Airport
- Check the JR Hokkaido Airport Train operation information for delays and suspensions by section. JR Hokkaido airport train service updates
- Please check the Hokuto Kotsu airport bus information, notice of possible suspension due to vehicle inspection, and Chuo Bus airport bus information. Hokuto Kotsu Airport Bus Information · Notice of possible suspension due to vehicle inspection · Chuo Bus Airport Bus Information
Snow alone does not establish that a particular flight or all transport has been cancelled. JR suspension does not guarantee bus operation. Before leaving the airport, check which trains or buses are running to your destination and which seats are available.
If you arrive late alone, it is best to contact the accommodation at the official information center/boarding area where there are people, and check the reserved vehicle information and luggage before moving on.
Official tickets and reservations
Buy a basic-fare ticket for the airport train; a reserved u-seat requires an additional seat ticket. A multi-day rail pass is a different product from a one-way airport ticket. Check passport, residence or entry-status requirements and exchange conditions on the official page for the pass you choose.
These are official operator links, not affiliate links. Fares in this guide and online offers may have different conditions. Confirm direction, date, exchange, reservation and refund rules before paying.
A four-day rail trip to Noboribetsu and Otaru
The Sapporo–Noboribetsu Area Pass covers four consecutive days in its designated area, including New Chitose Airport, Sapporo and Otaru. Adult prices are 10,000 yen with eligible advance purchase or 11,000 yen at designated stations. For one airport journey, compare an ordinary ticket first.
JR Hokkaido allows holders of non-Japanese passports to use this pass. Present your original valid passport when buying or exchanging it; a residence card or passport copy is insufficient. Exchange an advance voucher at a designated counter before travelling. An electronic exchange order is valid for 90 days, while a paper order is valid for three months. A seller may apply additional conditions.
Ordinary-class reserved seats within the area are included, but obtain a seat reservation before using u-seat or an all-reserved limited express. Sapporo subways, trams and buses are excluded. Check the seller’s refund rules before exchanging; a flight delay does not automatically extend the pass.
New Chitose Airport to Sapporo FAQs
How do I reach the JR station from international arrivals?
From the international arrivals lobby on the second floor, follow the Domestic and JR signs across the second-floor connecting passage. In the domestic terminal, go down to New Chitose Airport Station on basement level 1. Allow about 10–15 minutes to walk with luggage, plus ticketing and waiting time. This walking allowance is editorial guidance, not a guaranteed time. Use the second-floor passage; the third-floor passage is closed for construction.
Should I take JR or a bus for a hotel near Sapporo Station?
Compare JR first for hotels near the station. Airport trains take about 33–44 minutes to Sapporo and cost 1,230 yen one way for an adult in a non-reserved seat. The airport bus costs 1,500 yen, with journey times varying by route and stop. A bus can reduce transfers if it stops close to your hotel, such as Keio Plaza Hotel Sapporo.
Can I reach Susukino without changing trains or buses?
A regular city-centre airport bus serves Minami 3-jo Susukino, from where you can walk to your hotel. Separate direct buses leave the international terminal at 14:16 and 16:16 and serve Susukino at Minami 4 Nishi 1. These are different stops, and neither is outside every hotel; check the final walking route.
What is the difference between JR non-reserved and reserved seats?
A non-reserved journey costs the 1,230-yen basic fare, but a seat is not guaranteed. A u-seat reservation in car 4 costs an additional 1,000 yen, giving a total of 2,230 yen. An Eki-net ticketless seat reservation costs 800 yen and excludes the basic fare; adding 1,230 yen gives a total of 2,030 yen. Ordinary fares and this ticketless seat discount do not have the passport eligibility conditions of foreign-visitor rail passes.
What if a flight delay makes me miss my reserved train?
For Eki-net ticketless seat reservations, make changes or refunds online before the booked train departs and before 23:50, subject to seat availability and ticket conditions. After departure, an unused seat reservation is invalid for a reserved seat on a later train. Check your separate basic-fare ticket, then use non-reserved accommodation or buy a new seat reservation. Paper tickets and rail passes have different rules; contact the issuing office before departure.
Where can I check alternatives if snow stops JR trains?
Check JR Hokkaido airport train updates and the separate Hokuto Kotsu and Chuo Bus notices and boarding information. A railway suspension does not guarantee that buses are running or have space. Check your flight with the airport and airline too, then compare operating buses, official taxis, pre-booked vehicles or hotels near the airport.
What transport is available if I arrive late at night?
In the reviewed regular timetable, the last JR train leaves New Chitose Airport Station at 23:21 and reaches Sapporo at 23:54. The last regular city-centre bus leaves international terminal stop 84 at 22:59 and reaches Minami 3-jo Susukino, Odori Park and Sapporo Station after midnight. Check departures against the time you finish immigration, collect baggage and reach the boarding point. If transport has finished, is full or is suspended, use the official first-floor international-terminal taxi rank, contact your pre-booked pickup company or arrange accommodation near the airport.
