New Chitose Airport to Sapporo, Odori and Susukino

For a hotel near Sapporo Station, start with the JR airport train. For Odori or Susukino, take JR and transfer to the subway, or choose an airport bus with a stop near your hotel. A bus can save a transfer, but the final walk and traffic conditions may make the train a better choice.

JR → Sapporo Station

33–44 minutes · Nonreserved seat: JPY 1,230

This is the ride from New Chitose Airport Station to Sapporo Station. Continue on foot to a nearby hotel, or transfer to the subway for Odori and Susukino.

A reserved u-seat costs an additional JPY 1,000, making the total JPY 2,230. With an Eki-net ticketless seat reservation, the seat charge is JPY 800 and the total including the base fare is JPY 2,030.

Regular airport bus → City center

Adult one-way: JPY 1,500

From the domestic terminal’s ANA stop, allow about 68 minutes to Minami 3-jo Susukino, 72 minutes to Odori Park or 77 minutes to Sapporo Station. The international-terminal stop has a different departure time; use its own timetable.

The final hotel stop can take about 95 minutes, depending on the service. Traffic, snow and detours can lengthen the ride.

JR + Namboku Line → Odori and Susukino

JR + subway: JPY 1,440

The total combines the JR base fare of JPY 1,230 with a JPY 210 subway fare. Leave the JR gates and walk to the subway gates. The subway ride is about 2 minutes to Odori or 3 minutes to Susukino; transfer walks, waiting and the walk from the exit are extra.

Direct bus → Susukino/Nakajima Park

JPY 1,500 · Limited departures

International-terminal departures are at 14:16 and 16:16. The route serves Sapporo Station, Odori Park, Susukino (Minami 4 Nishi 1) and Nakajima Park, in that order. Its stops are not in the same locations as the regular route’s stops.

Ride times from the domestic ANA stop are about 65, 73, 77 and 80 minutes respectively. This is not an hourly service.

Ride times are not landing-to-hotel times

Add immigration, baggage claim, the walk to the station or bus stop, buying tickets, waiting and the final walk to your hotel. Immigration and baggage-claim times vary with your flight and airport congestion.

Allow roughly 10–15 minutes to walk from international arrivals to the JR station with luggage. This is an editorial planning estimate, not a measured or guaranteed time. Together with the train ride, it gives about 43–59 minutes to Sapporo Station, before ticketing, waiting or the hotel walk.

For Odori and Susukino, add the subway transfer, a 2–3 minute ride and the walk to your hotel. For the bus, add the move to the international terminal’s first floor, waiting and the walk from the destination stop.

A nearby bus stop can reduce transfers, but the bus is not always faster than JR.

From the international arrival hall to JR New Chitose Airport Station

JR New Chitose Airport Station · 新千歳空港駅 is on B1 of the domestic terminal. From international arrivals on the second floor, follow the connecting walkway to the domestic terminal. Do not go down to the first-floor bus stops if you are taking the train.

  1. After immigration and baggage claim, leave the international arrival lobby on the second floor. Follow the ‘国内線 / Domestic’ and ‘JR’ signs.
  2. Cross the second-floor indoor walkway into the domestic terminal and continue toward its center. The floor map places the international terminal to the west and the domestic terminal to the east.
  3. Follow the JR signs down to B1 using the elevator or escalator, then buy your ticket or prepare your IC card. The airport’s two route videos show the way from the domestic terminal’s second-floor Center Plaza to the station.
  4. Check the departure board for a train stopping at Sapporo, then board. At Sapporo Station, leave through the exit toward your hotel or follow the subway signs. Allow extra time for elevators and ticketing.

Construction notice: The third-floor walkway is scheduled to close from September 2, 2026 through the end of June 2027; use the second-floor route described here. Domestic-terminal elevator 5 is scheduled to be out of service from 23:30 on October 5 to 17:00 on October 23, 2026. Follow the posted detour if you need an elevator. Facility Notice

Regular and direct buses use different city stops

The regular route runs via Fukuzumi and Toyohira, then serves Minami 3-jo Susukino · 南3条すすきの, Odori Park and Sapporo Station. The separate direct service reaches Sapporo Station first and uses Susukino (Minami 4 Nishi 1) · すすきの(南4西1).

Minami 4 Nishi 3 is a stop for the opposite direction, from the city to the airport. Do not use it as your airport-arrival drop-off point.

Reservations, payment and luggage

These buses do not take seat reservations. Boarding is first come, first served; if a bus is full, wait for the next available service. An advance ticket does not guarantee a seat. Hokuto Kotsu accepts cash, supported contactless credit cards and PayPay, but payment options depend on the operating company and vehicle. Carry cash rather than relying only on a transit IC card. The last international-terminal bus is scheduled to reach Minami 3-jo Susukino at 00:03, Odori Park at 00:07 and Sapporo Station at 00:12 the following day.

Bus timetable by bus stop and destination ↗

Landing before the last departure does not guarantee you can board. After the last bus reaches the city, the subway or underground passages may be closed. Confirm your hotel’s late check-in policy and the remaining walk.

After the last train or bus

Both terminals have official taxi and reserved-car pickup areas on the first floor. Fares depend on your destination, traffic, tolls and late-night surcharges; ask for a quote and confirm passenger and luggage capacity. Official taxi-stand map ↗

For a reserved pickup, confirm the meeting point, flight-delay waiting policy and no-show terms with the operator. The airport information center can provide vehicle-service information, but late-night availability is not guaranteed.

If you cannot continue that night, check airport-hotel room availability, check-in times and access. Do not assume the terminal or connecting walkways stay open overnight. Airport hotels ↗

When your flight is late and you miss your reserved ticket

Change or refund an Eki-net ticketless seat reservation online before the booked train departs and before 23:50. Changes depend on availability, and refund fees apply. After departure, an unused seat reservation is invalid; it cannot reserve a seat on the next train.

A valid base-fare ticket is still needed for nonreserved travel. Ask the ticket counter about paper tickets; for a pass, check its activation and seat-reservation conditions.

Regular airport buses do not reserve specific seats. If you miss one, check the next operating service and available seats. Advance-ticket validity and refunds follow the seller’s terms. For a reserved vehicle, ask the operator whether a delayed flight changes the pickup or qualifies for a refund. Ticketless reservation changes and refunds ↗

In winter, check flights, JR, and buses separately.

Snow alone does not mean a flight or every transport service is canceled. If JR is suspended, buses may also be disrupted or full. Check each operator’s current information before choosing an alternative.

For a late arrival, contact your hotel before leaving the staffed airport area. Confirm your vehicle’s pickup details and collect all bags before setting off.

Official tickets and reservations

Buy a basic-fare ticket for the airport train; a reserved u-seat requires an additional seat ticket. A multi-day rail pass is a different product from a one-way airport ticket. Check passport, residence or entry-status requirements and exchange conditions on the official page for the pass you choose.

These are official operator links, not affiliate links. Fares in this guide and online offers may have different conditions. Confirm direction, date, exchange, reservation and refund rules before paying.

New Chitose Airport to Sapporo: FAQ

How do I reach the JR station from international arrivals?

From the international arrival lobby on the second floor, follow the Domestic and JR signs across the second-floor connecting walkway. In the domestic terminal, go down to New Chitose Airport Station on B1. Allow roughly 10–15 minutes for the walk with luggage, plus ticketing and train waiting time. This is a planning estimate, not a guaranteed time. Use the second-floor route while the third-floor walkway is closed.

Should I take JR or the bus for a hotel near Sapporo Station?

JR is a useful starting point: the airport-to-Sapporo ride takes about 33–44 minutes and costs JPY 1,230 for an adult nonreserved ticket. The airport bus costs JPY 1,500, with time depending on the route and stop. If your departure serves a hotel stop close to your destination, such as Keio Plaza, compare the bus’s longer ride against the shorter final walk.

Can I reach Susukino without transferring?

Yes. The regular airport bus serves Minami 3-jo Susukino. A limited direct service serves Susukino (Minami 4 Nishi 1), with international-terminal departures at 14:16 and 16:16 in the reviewed timetable. Neither stop is at every hotel; check the walk to your booked address.

How much does a reserved seat on the JR airport train cost?

A nonreserved ticket costs JPY 1,230 and does not guarantee a seat. A u-seat in car 4 adds JPY 1,000, for a total of JPY 2,230. An Eki-net ticketless seat reservation adds JPY 800, for a total of JPY 2,030 including the base fare. Unlike some visitor rail passes, these regular fares do not have passport-based eligibility requirements.

What if my flight is delayed and I miss my reserved train?

Change or refund an Eki-net ticketless seat reservation online before the booked departure and before 23:50. Changes depend on available seats, and refund fees apply. After departure, an unused reservation is invalid. You need a valid base-fare ticket for nonreserved travel, or a new seat reservation to use a reserved seat. Paper tickets and passes have different conditions; ask the issuing counter or operator.

What can I use if JR is suspended because of snow?

Check Hokuto Kotsu and Hokkaido Chuo Bus notices separately from JR Hokkaido updates. A suspended train does not guarantee an operating bus or an available seat. Also check your flight with the airport and airline. Depending on confirmed availability, alternatives include an operating bus, an official taxi, a reserved vehicle or an airport-area hotel.

What are the last departures to Sapporo?

In the timetable reviewed for this guide, the last JR train leaves New Chitose Airport Station at 23:21 and reaches Sapporo at 23:54. The last regular bus leaves international-terminal stop 84 at 22:59, reaching Susukino, Odori and Sapporo Station after midnight. Allow for immigration, baggage claim and the walk to the boarding point. If services have ended, are full or are suspended, confirm an official taxi, an existing reserved pickup or an available airport-area hotel.
