How do I make a reservation, payment, and prepare large luggage?
These regular buses to the city are on a first-come, first-served basis without prior seat reservations, and if they are full, you will have to wait for the next bus. Buying a ticket in advance does not guarantee you a specific seat. Hokuto Kotsu offers cash, touch payment using supported credit cards, and PayPay. Check the actual operator and vehicle’s accepted payment, and don't just rely on your transport IC card, but prepare cash as well. Hokuto payment/baggage FAQ and Chuo Bus payment guidance.
According to Hokuto's guidance, the standard for trunk baggage is approximately one suitcase per person, and cannot be loaded if there is insufficient space. Please inquire in advance for multiple pieces of large or special baggage. You must carry the power bank yourself and not put it in the trunk.
When picking up your luggage at the destination, it is a good idea to check your tags and bags and save the name of the stop you get off on to your phone.

The map uses geographical data from the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan (GSI). Blue shows JR, brown the regular bus, purple the direct bus, green the subway and violet terminal/transfer connections. The dotted lines are guide lines connecting travel directions and are not actual railway tracks, roads, or indoor walking routes.

Airport pins are representative locations for each floor area, so specific doors or floors cannot be found using the map screen alone. The bus pin is compared to the map coordinates of the operator's stop, and the JR and subway pins are the reference location of the centre of the station.
For regular and direct buses, stops with the same name are marked separately at different locations. Please refer to the official airport map for the actual bus route, and the walking map and station exit information below for the final route to the accommodation.

When public transportation is over
There are official regular taxi and reserved taxi stands on the first floor for both international and domestic flights. The fare varies depending on destination, driving conditions, tolls, and late-night surcharges, so there is no fixed amount listed. If you have several people and large luggage, ask first about the number of passengers and load capacity. Official airport taxi-rank map.
For reservation pickup, compare the reservation number, meeting location, waiting time in case of flight delay, and no-show conditions confirmed by the company. Official airport information centers provide reservation vehicle guidance, but do not guarantee late-night on-site reservations or vehicle availability.

When your flight is late and you miss your reserved ticket
For Ekinet ticketless reserved seats, make changes/refunds online before the booked train departs and before 23:50, subject to availability and refund fees. After departure, an unused reserved-seat ticket is invalid; it does not reserve a seat on the next train.
A separate valid basic ticket is required to use non-reserved seats. For paper reserved seating tickets, check the rules at the ticket counter, and for passes, check the exchange/activation/seat reservation status.
Regular city-bound airport buses do not reserve specific seats. If a bus is full, ask about the next departure and available seats. Please follow the terms and conditions of the seller regarding the expiration date and refund of tickets purchased in advance. For separately scheduled pickups, you must inquire with the company whether flight delay is grounds for automatic cancellation/refund. Ticketless change/non-boarding conditions ↗
In winter, check flights, JR, and buses separately.
- Same-day flights from New Chitose Airport Check the notices from your airline.
- JR Hokkaido Airport service status for delays and suspensions by section.
- Hokuto Kotsu Airport Bus Information, Notice of possible suspension due to vehicle inspection, Chuo Bus Airport Bus Information respectively.
It cannot be said that certain flights or all transportation were cancelled just because it was snowing. JR suspension does not guarantee bus operation. Before leaving the airport, check which flights actually take you to your destination and which seats are available.
If you arrive late alone, it is best to contact the accommodation at the official information center/boarding area where there are people, and check the reserved vehicle information and luggage before moving on.
Ordinary airport tickets or a wider rail pass?
For a single journey to Sapporo, compare an ordinary JR ticket with a city-bound bus ticket. A ticketless reserved-seat supplement does not by itself include the basic rail fare. Ekinet requires an account and a supported payment method.
For four days of rail travel to Noboribetsu and Otaru
The Sapporo–Noboribetsu Area Pass covers four consecutive days in its defined JR area, including New Chitose Airport ↔ Sapporo. It is not a one-way airport ticket. The official adult price is JPY 10,000 for advance purchase outside Japan or JPY 11,000 in Japan. Sapporo subway and buses are excluded.
The official eligibility requires a non-Japanese passport. Check the selected sales option’s additional entry-status requirements and bring the original passport when exchanging a voucher. Reserve a u-seat before boarding if you want a reserved seat. Check the issuer’s actual exchange deadline and cancellation terms; do not treat a flight delay as an automatic refund or assume every voucher has the same validity period.

How do I get from the international arrival hall to JR station?
From the arrival lobby on the 2nd floor of the international flight, follow the signs for domestic flights and JR and cross the connecting passageway on the 2nd floor. When you arrive at the domestic terminal, go down to New Chitose Airport Station on the first basement level. Allow about 10 to 15 minutes for the walking section to allow time for lugging your luggage, but add additional time for ticketing and waiting for the train. These times are editorial estimates and not official guaranteed times. Please use the 2nd floor instead of the 3rd floor connecting passageway currently under construction.
Is it more convenient to stay at Sapporo Station, JR or bus?
If you are staying near a station, compare JR first. It takes about 33 to 44 minutes by airport train from New Chitose Airport Station to Sapporo Station and costs 1,230 yen one way for an adult non-reserved seat. The airport bus costs 1,500 yen and times vary depending on the stop and route. If the actual bus stop is close to your accommodation, like Keio Plaza, a bus that goes without transfers is also comparable.
Is there transportation to Susukino accommodation without transfers?
If you take the airport bus bound for Sapporo city centre and get off at the South 3-Jo Susukino stop, you can go to Susukino without transferring to the subway. A separate direct bus stops at Susukino South 4 West 1, but it is a limited service with international-terminal departures at 14:16 and 16:16. Both stops are not in front of all hotels, so check the route you take after getting off at your accommodation.
What is the difference between JR non-reserved seats and reserved seats?
Non-reserved seats have a basic fare of 1,230 yen and seats are not guaranteed. The u-seat reserved seat is a reserved seat in car 4, with an additional 1,000 yen for the reserved seat ticket, for a total of 2,230 yen. Ekinet Ticketless reserved seat tickets are 800 yen, but the total is 2,030 yen, including the separate basic fare. Regular fares and ticketless reserved seat discounts are not subject to passport eligibility requirements like the Foreigner Pass.
What do I do if my flight is late and I miss the train I reserved?
For Ekinet ticketless reserved seats, changes and refunds must be made on the web before the departure time of the reserved train and before 23:50. Seat availability and refund fees apply. After departure, unused reserved seat tickets are invalid and cannot be used for reserved seats on the next train. Please check the validity conditions of the separate basic ticket and use non-reserved seats or purchase a new reserved seat ticket. Paper tickets and passes have different regulations at each ticket issuing office, so you must inquire before departure.
If JR stops due to snow, where can I find alternative transportation?
Check the airport train in the JR Hokkaido operation information, and check the airport bus notices and actual bus stop information of Hokuto Kotsu and Chuo Bus separately. Even if JR stops, bus operation or seats are not guaranteed. Check the flight status separately with the airport and airline, then compare operating buses, official taxis, reserved vehicles, or hotels near the airport.
How can I get around if I arrive late at night?
In the confirmed regular timetable, the last train to JR to Sapporo departs from New Chitose Airport Station at 23:21 and arrives at Sapporo Station at 23:54. The last regular bus to the city centre is international-terminal stop 84 at 22:59 and arrives in front of Minami 3-jo Susukino, Odori Park, and Sapporo Station the next day. Please judge by the time when you have finished entering the country, carrying your baggage, and moving to the boarding area. If public transportation is closed or full or suspended, you can use the official taxi stand on the first floor of the international terminal, confirmed reservation pickup, or accommodation near the airport.
