The Aomori Museum of Art is home to Yoshitomo Nara’s dog sculpture, Aomori Dog. When the outdoor connecting passage is open, you can approach the artwork free of charge.
You can visit the museum’s collection exhibition afterwards too. Indoor exhibitions have separate admission; plan around the displays you want to see.

Admission
Collection exhibition admission costs ¥700, or ¥400 for university students; visitors aged 18 and younger and high school students enter free. Special exhibition prices may differ. Viewing Aomori Dog via the outdoor connecting passage is free and separate from indoor admission.
Opening hours
The museum opens 09:30–17:00, with last admission at 16:30. Check closure dates in the official calendar.

How to get to Aomori Museum of Art
Take a municipal bus towards Sannai-Maruyama from stand 6 at Aomori Station and get off at Kenritsu Bijutsukan-mae (県立美術館前). The city’s 2026 timetable gives an adult fare of ¥280 one way. Check your date’s departure and route in that timetable. Nebutan-go from Shin-Aomori’s East Exit is another option, with different fares. After getting off, follow the pavement to the left and turn right at the museum entrance sign. The official summer video gives about two minutes on foot to the entrance. Pass first-floor general information and take the exhibition lift to basement level two. Allow separately for tickets and reaching the exhibition rooms, and follow the official winter route when snow lies on the ground.

Before you visit
Aomori Dog outdoor passage: hours and stairs
The outdoor passage opens 09:45–16:30, with its entrance locked at 16:30. Allow about 10–15 minutes just for the walk there and back, including stairs. In 2026 it opened from 21 April and closes around the onset of snow. If stairs are difficult for you or you visit during snowy months, ask the museum about available routes.
