UKB → Sannomiya and Kobe city

Kobe Airport to Sannomiya, Motomachi and Harborland

International arrivals use Terminal 2: walk to Terminal 1 or take the free loop bus before boarding the Port Liner. Domestic arrivals connect to the station via Terminal 1’s 2F walkway. Take the Port Liner for Sannomiya; for Motomachi, Nankinmachi or Kobe Station and Harborland, change to JR at Sannomiya.

International Terminal 2: reach the station on the Terminal 1 side

Terminal 2 · 第2ターミナル

  1. Finish arrival checks, immigration, baggage collection and customs, then enter the 1F arrivals lobby.
  2. Follow ‘ポートライナー’ and ‘第1ターミナル’ out of the east-side entrance, then use the pedestrian path towards Terminal 1. Follow crossings and signs rather than crossing the roadway.
  3. At the Terminal 1 side, use lifts/escalators and the 2F station walkway to Kobe Airport Station. There is no continuous indoor corridor from international arrivals to the station.
  4. With heavy bags, compare the free airport-island loop bus outside the terminal. Get off at Terminal 1 and go up to 2F. Its queue is separate from paid city buses.

The official Terminal 2 loop-bus table runs 08:21–19:51. Between 09:00 and 12:00, departures are at 11, 21, 31 and 51 minutes past the hour; intervals differ at other times. Blue times run directly to Terminal 1, about three minutes on board. Black times go via the marine-access terminal and can wait over ten minutes for timetable adjustment. Waiting and the onward walk to the station are extra.

Wheelchair boarding is possible but may be unavailable if crowded. In rain or wind, ask the information desk about the remaining buses and accessible station route. Do not plan on a Terminal 2 loop bus after 19:51.

Port Liner tickets, payment and luggage

  1. Buy a JPY 340 adult ticket to Sannomiya (‘三宮’) at the machine. A normal child ticket is JPY 170. Alternatively, tap a compatible transport IC card such as Suica, ICOCA or PASMO at entry and exit.
  2. Supported credit, debit, prepaid cards and phone wallets can use the bank-card reader in the designated wide gate. Use the same card and device at both ends, and check accepted brands on the gate. This method charges the normal adult fare even for children; it is different from the transport IC reader.
  3. Board for ‘三宮’ and get off at the terminus, Sannomiya P01. City-bound trains run through the Computational Science Center, Medical Center, Shimin Hiroba, Minatojima and Naka Koen area. Do not confuse this with the Kita Futo loop route.

The ride takes about 18 minutes. Immigration, bags, Terminal 2 access, ticketing, train waiting and the final walk are extra. There are no reserved seats or a dedicated luggage hold.

The operator permits up to two items within 250 cm combined dimensions and 30 kg without an extra luggage charge, provided they do not interfere with operation. Keep doors and aisles clear and manage your own bags. Sannomiya lockers may be full or too small; check on site.

For the return trip, choose ‘神戸空港’. Trains ending at Kita Futo, Naka Koen or the Computational Science Center do not all reach the airport.

Port Liner Sannomiya Station · 三宮駅 (P01)
JR Sannomiya Station · 三ノ宮駅
Hankyu Kobe-sannomiya Station · 神戸三宮駅
Hanshin Kobe-Sannomiya Station · 神戸三宮駅

  1. Access Kobe Airport Station using the method above from the arrival terminal → Prepare ticket and transport IC card → Take the Port Liner bound for Sannomiya.
  2. At Sannomiya, go from the 3F platform down to the 2F gates and leave the Port Liner paid area. When transferring to another company's train, separate fares and ticket gates are used.
  3. JR transfer: Use the exit marked ‘JR・地下鉄・阪神・阪急’ and follow signs to the nearby JR east gates. The Motomachi/Kobe direction is the westbound direction of the JR Kobe Line.
  4. Hankyu transfer: From the same westbound exit, go towards Hankyu Kobe Sannomiya Station on the west side of JR Station and follow the ‘阪急’ signs. Hankyu is a separate elevated station and there is no need to enter the JR ticket gate.
  5. Hanshin transfer: Take the opposite exit towards ‘阪神(東口)’ and go down towards the Hanshin East ticket gate. Hanshin is an underground station. Please use the bypass elevator during the south elevator outage.
  6. Walk to the accommodation by checking the east, west, and north directions based on the address. Sannomiya has several separate stations; treating them as one entrance can send you the wrong way.

Lift works: Port Liner Sannomiya’s south lift is closed from 13:00 on 4 September–30 November 2026. Published alternatives use another ground-connecting deck lift or the lift beside M-INT KOBE · ミント神戸. Construction periods and passageways may change, so please check the notice below.

City buses from the arrival terminal

  1. Use Terminal 1 stop 5 outside 1F, or the Shinki Bus city stop east of Terminal 2. Check ‘三宮・新神戸’ and the vehicle destination. The free loop bus, sightseeing City Loop and other highway buses are different services.
  2. On the ordinary Shinki city bus, board at the front and pay when getting off, without a reservation. Use cash or a compatible transport IC card such as Suica, ICOCA or PiTaPa. Port Liner bank-card payment conditions do not apply automatically.
  3. The normal fare is JPY 340 adults, JPY 170 children. Some daytime services reach Shinki Bus Kobe Sannomiya; late services run via Subway Sannomiya-ekimae to Shin-Kobe. Check the exact arrival stop for your bus.
  4. Subway Sannomiya-ekimae is on the JR station's north/Flower Road side, not at the Port Liner's 2F gates. Follow station signs or your hotel's address after getting off.

The table revised on 1 April 2026 shows the last ordinary bus from both terminals at 21:40 → Subway Sannomiya-ekimae 22:00 → Shin-Kobe 22:11, in weekday and weekend/holiday tables. A full bus may not accept you; waiting for a delayed flight is not guaranteed. Ask about large bags and loading.

Airport-bound boarding at Subway Sannomiya-ekimae uses southbound N13, not necessarily the arriving bus's stop. The city bus cannot be used solely between Terminals 1 and 2; use the free loop bus for that.

Motomachi and Nankinmachi: one JR stop, then walk south

Motomachi Station · 元町駅
Nankinmachi · 南京町
Chang'an Gate · 長安門

  1. Airport → Port Liner Sannomiya → JR Sannomiya’s east gates.
  2. Buy a JPY 150 JR ticket or use transport IC. Take a JR Kobe Line local train west towards Nishi-Akashi/Himeji. Motomachi is the next stop, about one minute. Special Rapid trains do not stop at Motomachi; check the actual stopping pattern.
  3. At Motomachi, leave the east gates (東口) towards the south and Motomachi Shopping Street. Follow Nankinmachi signs to its eastern Chang’an Gate. Official guidance gives about five minutes from the station to Nankinmachi.
  4. If your accommodation is west of Nankinmachi or on the coast, you don't necessarily need to stop by Chang'an Gate. Please check the walking route after getting off at the accommodation address.

The total from the airport is 340 + 150 = 490 yen. You can also take a train toward Motomachi from Hanshin Kobe Sannomiya, but the ticket gates, trains, and timetables are different from JR. The fares and last train in this guide are based on JR transfers.

If you take the above route from Airport → Port Liner → JR Motomachi, the total cost is 490 yen. Exit south from the east ticket gate of Motomachi Station, go down towards Nankinmachi/Meriken Road, and follow the crossing guidance on the coastal highway. Continue to the park’s north entrance.

Official tourism guidance gives about a 15-minute walk from JR/Hanshin Motomachi Station. The map pin is for the northern entry point, not the centre of the park or the waterfront sculpture.

If you are sightseeing with large luggage, check the map for crossing and walking routes without stairs. Please check first whether you can leave your luggage in a locker at the station or at your accommodation, but locker availability is not guaranteed. If it is late, please calculate the distance to return to your accommodation and the check-in deadline as well.

  1. Leave Port Liner Sannomiya via the JR/地下鉄 exit, go north of JR and follow Seishin–Yamate Line subway signs to its Sannomiya east gates. Sannomiya-Hanadokeimae on the southern Kaigan Line is a different subway station.
  2. Enter with a JPY 210 ticket or compatible transport IC. At B2 platform 1, take a train towards Shin-Kobe/Tanigami (新神戸・谷上).
  3. Get off one stop later at Shin-Kobe and follow ‘新幹線’ signs to JR Shinkansen. The subway and Shinkansen have separate ticket gates, and Shinkansen fares and limited express fares are separate.

The airport→Shin-Kobe subway total is JPY 340 + 210 = 550. Count back from the Shinkansen departure time you reserved for entry, moving to Terminal 2, walking between two stations, waiting for the train, and accessing the Shinkansen ticket gate. There are direct buses to Shin-Kobe for the city, but you need to check the bus’s stops and arrival for your onward train.

Late arrivals: be ready at boarding before the last departure

  • Last departure from Port Liner Airport 23:45: Weekdays, Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays are all the same. The currently released Kobe Airport Station timetable is a revised table on March 28, 2016. 2026-10-05 Confirmed on the operator’s page. The two preceding departures are 23:08 and 23:22.
  • Regular city buses last two terminals at 21:40: Based on the operator's revised weekday and weekend tables as of April 1, 2026. After exiting the arrival lobby, you must approach the actual boarding area. Please check the current operator table first, rather than the old coverage period until September, which remains on the airport page.
  • Terminal 2 Free Circular Bus Last 19:51: After that, if you want to take the Port Liner, you must reserve additional time to walk outside or travel to the station floor. Just because your plane lands before 23:45 does not mean you can catch the train.
  • JR Motomachi-Kobe connection: Based on confirmation of operation dates on October 4th and 5th in the revised table on October 3, 2026, the last regular train to the west of Sannomiya is 00:42 past midnight To Nishi-Akashi. The time is on the next calendar date based on the date of travel. Get off at Port Liner, go to the ticket gate, add ticket, and check the JR timetable for the day.
  • Subway Shin-Kobe connection: Sannomiya Shinkobe/Tanigami direction last in the revised table on March 15, 2025 Weekdays 00:35 (Shin-Kobe terminal), Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays 00:05. The 23:45 departure from the airport arrives in Sannomiya around midnight, so don't assume it will connect to the 00:05 subway on weekends. The last train of the Shinkansen is separate from the last train of the city subway and must be confirmed based on the train you reserved.

Immigration inspection and baggage collection times may be long, and there is no guarantee that trains or buses will wait for passengers on delayed flights. When aiming for the last train on an international flight, count the walking after the loop bus and the station elevator trip.

After public transport ends: taxi rank or confirmed pickup

Use the official taxi rank outside your arrival terminal and show your hotel’s exact address. For a booked pickup, confirm UKB, terminal, flight, delay waiting/contact policy, bag count and late collection time with the company before travel.

Do not assume the Terminal 1 rental counter can provide a car late at night.

Taxi fares vary depending on your accommodation location and time of use. Please provide your accommodation address when booking and confirm the estimated total amount. For a metered or booked trip, ask about night charges, tolls, waiting fees and cancellation conditions.

The airport information centre is 078-304-7777, Operation information: 07:00~23:00, not a 24-hour dispatch window.

If you arrive at your accommodation late, check the check-in deadline, contact information, remaining distance from the station to the accommodation, and luggage transfer. Even if you take a taxi, let the driver know where the main entrance to your accommodation is and where the vehicle can stop.

After completing immigration, baggage pickup, and customs on the first floor of Terminal 2, follow the Port Liner/Terminal 1 signs to the external pedestrian path. The station is located on the Terminal 1 side and is not directly connected to the Terminal 2 arrival hall. If you take the free loop bus, get off at Terminal 1 and go up to the station connecting passage on the 2nd floor.

From the arrival hall on the 1st floor of Domestic Terminal 1, take a lift or escalator to the 2nd floor and go to the station connecting passage. At International Terminal 2, walk outside or take the free shuttle bus.
