Three days in Osaka: how will you spend the middle day?
For three days, choose a middle day combining castle exhibitions and Umeda views, or devote it to Kaiyukan. Both itineraries use two nights in Namba to explore different parts of the city.
After the castle and Umeda observation deck, walk in Namba Parks Garden on the final day. The Kaiyukan itinerary places Osaka Castle's main tower on the final morning instead. Skip final-day sightseeing before a morning flight home; for other departures, check that you can finish the visit, travel to the airport and complete flight check-in in time.

Day 1 | Namba hotel → Dotonbori → Namba hotel
- Namba hotel → Dotonbori riverside
After lunch in Namba, head to the riverside. Follow street-level signs from subway Namba towards Ebisubashi and Dotonbori. The tourism bureau gives about 5 minutes from Midosuji Line Namba; the walk from your hotel differs.
- Dotonbori riverside → Hotel check-in and dinner
See the riverside and signs in the afternoon, then check in, rest and have dinner. The riverside walk needs no facility ticket, while food and cruises cost extra. After a late arrival, keep to a short evening walk without reducing tomorrow’s castle time.
Day 2 | Namba → Osaka Castle → Umeda views → Namba
- Namba → Tanimachi 4-chome and tower visit
After breakfast, take the Midosuji Line north towards Hommachi, then change to the Chuo Line towards Nagata and Ikoma for Tanimachi 4-chome. From exit 9, walk through Otemon to the main tower. The official walk takes about 15–20 minutes; exhibitions usually take 50–60 minutes, or 90 minutes for more detail. Allow ticketing and admission queues separately. Visit in the morning and have lunch nearby. The tower opens from 09:00 to 18:00, with last admission at 17:30. It closes on 28 December–1 January.
- Tanimachi 4-chome → Hommachi and Metro Umeda
After your meal and park walk, return to Tanimachi 4-chome. Take the Chuo Line west towards Hommachi, then change to the northbound Midosuji Line towards Umeda.
- Metro Umeda north ticket gate → Dedicated Floating Garden Observatory entrance
The official walk from Metro Umeda to the observatory is about 9 minutes. Leave the north gate towards Yodobashi Umeda, pass LINKS UMEDA, then go between Grand Front’s north and south buildings → crossing → short underpass shown in official directions → street level → Sky Building across the road. The observatory’s dedicated entrance is outside; follow its signs rather than entering office lifts in Tower East or West. The 7-minute JR Osaka Station route starts elsewhere.

The free garden opens at 10:00; shops and restaurants generally at 11:00.
- Parks Garden → Namba Station and departure
After walking, come down from the garden levels and follow signs to the Nankai Namba passage or towards Midosuji Line Namba. With time after 11:00, choose a meal or indoor shops. Skip the garden during bad weather or a closure, or for an early departure.

A day at the aquarium and departure-morning castle exhibitions
Rest in Namba on arrival day, then give day 2 to Kaiyukan, meals and breaks. Choose this for an afternoon or evening departure that allows a castle visit and return to Namba Station on day 3.
Day 1 | Namba hotel → Dotonbori → Namba hotel
- Namba hotel → Dotonbori riverside and meal
Walk from Namba towards Dotonbori for lunch or dinner. Use the tourism bureau’s approximately 5-minute Midosuji Namba-to-riverside walk as a reference, checking your hotel location separately.
- Dotonbori riverside → Namba hotel
Walk by the river and return to the same Namba base. No aquarium booking is included on arrival day. If immigration and baggage collection run late, shorten the walk and rest at your hotel.
Day 2 | Namba → Tempozan aquarium → Namba
- Namba → Osakako Station and Kaiyukan
Eat in Namba in the morning, then leave for your reserved admission time. Take the Midosuji Line north towards Hommachi, change to the Chuo Line west towards Cosmosquare and Yumeshima, and get off at Osakako. From exit 1, follow Tempozan Marketplace/Ferris wheel signs for about 5 minutes to Kaiyukan. Re-entry after an outside meal is unavailable; eat before entry or after finishing the visit.
- Kaiyukan → Visiting and meal conditions
Official school-group material gives 90–120 minutes for one circuit. Allow longer for watching animals slowly and taking breaks. Hours vary by date; check both the operating calendar and your reserved admission time.
- Tempozan → Osakako, Hommachi and Namba hotel
Rest in Tempozan after the visit, then retrace your walk to Osakako exit 1. The approximately 5-minute walk excludes reaching the platform and waiting. Take the Chuo Line east towards Hommachi and Ikoma, change at Hommachi to the Midosuji Line towards Tennoji and Nakamozu, then get off at Namba and rest at your hotel.
Day 3 | Namba → main tower → Namba Station → departure
Skip the castle and go to the airport for a final-day morning flight.
- Namba → Main tower visit
After breakfast, take the Midosuji Line to Hommachi and change eastbound onto the Chuo Line. Get off at Tanimachi 4-chome and use exit 9. Walk through Otemon to the tower, officially about 15–20 minutes. Visit after the 09:00 opening, adding queues and return walks to the basic 50–60-minute exhibition visit. Skip the castle if there is not enough time for both the visit and departure-station travel.
- Castle main tower → Return via Hommachi to Namba Station
After the tower, return through Otemon to Tanimachi 4-chome exit 9. Take the Chuo Line west towards Hommachi, then change to the southbound Midosuji Line towards Namba. Continue to your booked departure service. If the castle is closed, eat in Namba and begin departure preparations earlier.

Frequently asked questions
Can I visit the castle on the final day and then head to the airport?
The Kaiyukan itinerary returns from the castle via Tanimachi 4-chome → Hommachi → Namba. Allow enough time for entry queues, the walk to the station, airport travel and flight check-in. Do not include the castle before a morning departure or a flight with too little time to spare.
Which costs are included in the three-day castle and Umeda views itinerary?
The total adds only JPY 1,200 for the main tower, JPY 2,000 for the Floating Garden and JPY 820 for a weekday Metro one-day pass on day two. With a Saturday, Sunday or Japanese public holiday pass, it is JPY 3,820. No attraction discounts are applied. Transport on the first and final days, accommodation, meals, airport transfers, luggage storage and additional facilities are excluded.
