Two days in Osaka: castle exhibitions or the aquarium?

For two days, choose castle exhibitions on day one followed by a Dotonbori riverside walk, or Kaiyukan on day one followed by Namba Parks Garden.

These routes assume you arrive in Namba during the daytime. For a morning flight home, skip day-two sightseeing and head to the airport.

Castle exhibitions and the Dotonbori riverside

See castle history displays on day 1 and walk Dotonbori’s riverside by day on day 2. This suits arrival in Namba by midday with time for an afternoon castle visit.

Day 1 | Osaka Castle from Namba, then back to your hotel

Have lunch in Namba, then enjoy castle exhibitions and a park walk. After a delay, shorten the visit around last admission or move it to another day.

  1. Namba → Hommachi

After lunch, take the northbound Midosuji Line from Namba. Get off two stops later at Hommachi and change to the Chuo Line.

  2. Hommachi → Tanimachi 4-chome

At Hommachi, change without leaving the ticket gates to the Chuo Line towards Nagata and Ikoma, then get off at Tanimachi 4-chome. Search Namba → Hommachi → Tanimachi 4-chome for your date and allow time for platform transfers and waits at Hommachi.

    Osaka Metro route search

  3. Tanimachi 4-chome exit 9 → Otemon Gate and castle main tower

From Tanimachi 4-chome exit 9, follow the park map through Otemon to the main tower’s ticketing and entrance area. The official station-to-tower walk is about 15–20 minutes. A typical tower visit takes 50–60 minutes, or about 90 minutes for a closer look. Afterwards, walk around the castle exterior and moat. If ticket queues are long, shorten the park walk. Other paid areas such as Nishinomaru Garden are separate choices.

  4. Castle main tower → Tanimachi 4-chome, Hommachi and Namba

Return to Tanimachi 4-chome, take the Chuo Line west towards Hommachi, then change to the Midosuji Line towards Tennoji and Nakamozu for Namba. Check in at your hotel and eat in Namba. For evening scenery, make a short stop near Ebisubashi and leave the riverside walk for tomorrow.

  5. Late arrivals and closure days → Adjusting the visit

Main tower last admission is 17:30, but ticketing can end earlier when busy. The tower closes on 28 December–1 January. After a late arrival, eat in Namba on day 1 and move the tower to day 2 only if you can still allow enough time for the airport. Otherwise, skip the exhibitions and stay within Namba.

Day 2 | Riverside walk, then back to Namba Station

  1. Namba hotel → Dotonbori riverside

Take a short morning riverside walk. The tourism bureau gives about 5 minutes on foot from Midosuji Line Namba to the path. Follow street signs towards Dotonbori and Ebisubashi, pass the signs around the bridge and go down to the riverside path. Return towards Ebisubashi afterwards. A cruise is excluded from the street and riverside walk.

  2. Dotonbori riverside → Meal and return to Namba Station

After walking and eating, return towards Ebisubashi and Namba Station. Shops and restaurants keep individual hours; not all open early in the morning. For a morning departure, skip the walk and go to your booked departure station.

Kaiyukan and Namba Parks Garden

Spend the first afternoon watching marine life and walk in Namba Parks Garden on day 2. Choose this for more aquarium time and a station-area garden break before departure.

Day 1 | Lunch before the aquarium

Give the afternoon to the aquarium. Have lunch in Namba, then travel to Tempozan for your reserved entry time.

  1. Namba → Hommachi

After lunch in Namba, take the northbound Midosuji Line to Hommachi.

  2. Hommachi → Osakako

At Hommachi, change to the Chuo Line towards Cosmosquare and Yumeshima and get off at Osakako. Search Namba → Hommachi → Osakako for your date. Depart in time for your reserved aquarium slot, including transfers and admission waits.

  3. Osakako exit 1 → Kaiyukan entry and visit

From Osakako exit 1, follow signs towards Tempozan Marketplace and the large Ferris wheel for about 5 minutes. Allow time for ticket checks and queues before your reserved entry. The official school-group material gives 90–120 minutes for one circuit; waiting, meals and individual breaks are extra. To spend longer watching the animals, reduce later visits.

  4. Kaiyukan visit → A break in Tempozan

You cannot leave for an outside meal and re-enter during the visit. Eat lunch before entry; afterwards, allow about 30–40 minutes for a Tempozan break. The Ferris wheel, cruises and Legoland are excluded from this itinerary and its costs. For other paid facilities, check remaining time and separate tickets first.

    Re-entry

  5. Kaiyukan → Osakako, Hommachi and Namba

Retrace your walk to Osakako and take the Chuo Line towards Nagata and Ikoma. Change at Hommachi to the Midosuji Line towards Tennoji and Nakamozu for Namba, then return to your hotel and have dinner. For a longer Tempozan stay, check return services on the same route in the official journey planner.

  6. Tickets and arrival conditions → Adjusting the visit

Do not choose an early ticket without allowing for arrival delays. Select fees, hours and entry time for your date first. After a late arrival, stay in Namba on day 1. Move the aquarium to day 2 only with enough time for the visit and airport journey. Skip it the following day for a morning flight.

Day 2 | Namba Parks Garden from 10:00

  1. Namba hotel → Parks Garden entrance, 2nd floor

From Midosuji Line Namba, follow signs towards Nankai Namba and Namba Parks. Official access gives about 7 minutes on foot from Midosuji Line Namba, and a connection with Nankai Namba. Distinguish this from the approximately 15-minute JR Namba walk. Start at the shopping complex’s 2nd-floor garden entrance, shown as “2F 緑のエントランスシンボル” in the official garden guide. Check the floor guide for that entrance and the levels you want to walk.

  2. Parks Garden → Walk and meal

The garden opens at 10:00; shops and restaurants generally at 11:00. Walk first, then eat or shop if time allows. You do not need to visit every garden level from floors 2 to 9. Rest on the 3rd floor or choose higher levels around your remaining time. In rain or strong winds, shorten the garden visit and choose indoor meals or shopping once businesses open. Follow facility notices for closures and individual shop exceptions.

  3. Namba Parks → Namba Station and departure

After walking and eating, follow facility signs to the Nankai Namba connecting passage or towards Midosuji Line Namba. Finish in time for your booked airport train or onward service. Skip the garden for a morning departure.

Documented admission and transport costs: JPY 3,380

Included items: Aquarium admission on 8 October 2026 and standard Metro return between Namba and Osakako

Extra costs and conditions: Flights, accommodation, meals, luggage storage, airport transport, paid tours, shopping, extra facilities and other transport sections are excluded.

The cost is your date’s aquarium admission + JPY 580. Standard adult Namba–Osakako return is JPY 290 × 2 = JPY 580; independent Namba Parks Garden visits are free. For an adult aged 16 and above visiting the aquarium on 8 October 2026, the example is JPY 2,800 + 580 = 3,380. On another date, add JPY 580 to that date’s selected admission. Using a first-day Metro pass on the same example date gives JPY 3,620. For just two rides on one return, standard JPY 580 is less than the weekday JPY 820 or weekend/public-holiday JPY 620 pass; facility benefits require separate comparison. Neither day’s basic route uses buses.
