Two days in Osaka: the castle or the aquarium?
Choose castle exhibitions on day one and a Dotonbori riverwalk on day two, or KAIYUKAN on day one and Namba Parks Garden on day two.
These plans assume a midday arrival in Namba. For a morning flight home, skip day-two sightseeing and head to the airport.

KAIYUKAN and Namba Parks Garden →Castle Exhibitions and the Dotonbori Riverwalk
See the castle's history exhibitions on day one and walk along Dotonbori in daylight on day two. This course suits a trip arriving in Namba by midday, with time for an afternoon castle visit.
Day 1: Visit Osaka Castle from Namba, then return to your hotel
Have lunch in Namba before visiting the castle exhibitions and walking through the park. If you arrive late, shorten the visit to fit last admission or move it to another day.
- Namba → Hommachi
After lunch, take a northbound Midosuji Line train from Namba. Get off two stops later at Hommachi and transfer to the Chuo Line.
- Hommachi → Tanimachi 4-chome
Stay inside the ticket gates at Hommachi and transfer to the Chuo Line toward Nagata and Ikoma. Get off at Tanimachi 4-chome. Search Namba → Hommachi → Tanimachi 4-chome for your travel date, allowing for the platform transfer and train wait at Hommachi.
- Tanimachi 4-chome Exit 9 → Otemon Gate and the castle museum
From Tanimachi 4-chome Exit 9, follow the park map through Otemon Gate to the museum's ticket and admission area. The official station-to-museum walk takes about 15–20 minutes. The exhibition visit usually takes 50–60 minutes, or about 90 minutes for a closer look. Afterward, walk around the castle exterior and moat. Shorten the park walk if the ticket line is long; other paid areas, such as Nishinomaru Garden, are separate choices.
- Castle museum → Tanimachi 4-chome, Hommachi, and Namba
Return to Tanimachi 4-chome and take the Chuo Line west toward Hommachi. Transfer there to the Midosuji Line toward Tennoji and Nakamozu, then get off at Namba. Check in at your hotel and have dinner in Namba. For an evening view, keep the Ebisubashi stop short and leave the riverwalk for tomorrow.
- Late arrival or closure → Adjusting the visit
Museum admission ends at 5:30 PM, but ticket-line registration may end earlier when it is crowded. The museum closes December 28–January 1. If you arrive late, eat in Namba on day one and move the museum to day two only if you still have ample time for the airport. Otherwise, skip the exhibition and spend your time in Namba.
Day 2: Walk along the river, then return to Namba Station
- Namba hotel → Dotonbori Riverwalk
Take a short morning walk along Dotonbori. The tourism bureau lists about a five-minute walk from Midosuji Line Namba Station to the riverwalk. Follow signs toward Dotonbori and Ebisubashi, pass the signs around the bridge, and head down to the riverside path. Return toward Ebisubashi afterward. This street and river walk does not include a sightseeing cruise.
- Dotonbori Riverwalk → A meal and return to Namba Station
After your walk and meal, return toward Ebisubashi and continue to Namba Station. Restaurants and shops keep individual hours, so they may not all be open early in the morning. For a morning departure, skip the riverwalk and head to your booked departure station.
Included items: Castle museum admission and regular Metro round-trip fares between Namba and Tanimachi 4-chome
Separate costs and conditions: Flights, lodging, meals, luggage storage, airport transportation, additional paid attractions, and extra rides required by your hotel location are excluded.
Castle museum admission of ¥1,200 plus two regular ¥240 fares between Namba and Tanimachi 4-chome totals ¥1,680. The course uses no buses and stays within walking distance in Namba on day two. With a Metro day pass on day one, the subtotal before attraction discounts is ¥2,020 on weekdays or ¥1,820 on Saturdays, Sundays, and Japanese public holidays. For this single round trip of two rides, regular fares of ¥480 cost less than the ¥820/¥620 card. A lowest-cost comparison including attraction benefits is separate; no such discount is applied here.
KAIYUKAN and Namba Parks Garden
Spend the first afternoon viewing marine life and walk through Namba Parks Garden on day two. Choose this course if you want more time at the aquarium and a garden near the station on departure day.
Day 1: Have lunch before entering the aquarium
Give the aquarium your first afternoon. Have lunch in Namba, then travel to Tempozan to arrive for your reserved admission time.
- Namba → Hommachi
After lunch in Namba, take a northbound Midosuji Line train to Hommachi.
- Hommachi → Osakako
Transfer at Hommachi to the Chuo Line toward Cosmosquare and Yumeshima, then get off at Osakako. Search Namba → Hommachi → Osakako for your travel date. Allow for the station transfer and entrance queue when planning to reach your reserved aquarium admission time.
- Osakako Exit 1 → KAIYUKAN admission and visit
From Osakako Exit 1, follow signs toward Tempozan Marketplace and the large Ferris wheel for about five minutes. Allow for ticket checks and entrance waits before your reserved entry. Official school-group material estimates 90–120 minutes for one circuit, excluding queues, meals, and individual breaks. Reduce later stops if you want longer to watch the animals.
- After KAIYUKAN → A break in Tempozan
You cannot leave for a meal during your visit and then re-enter. Have lunch before admission; afterward, consider a 30–40-minute break in Tempozan. The Ferris wheel, sightseeing cruises, and LEGOLAND are excluded from this itinerary and its costs. For another paid attraction, check the remaining time and its separate ticket first.
- KAIYUKAN → Osakako, Hommachi, and Namba
Retrace your walk to Osakako Station and take the Chuo Line toward Nagata and Ikoma. Transfer at Hommachi to the Midosuji Line toward Tennoji and Nakamozu, then get off at Namba. Return to your hotel and have dinner. If you stay longer in Tempozan, check the return journey on the same route in the official trip planner.
- Tickets and arrival timing → Adjusting the visit
Avoid booking an early ticket without allowing for arrival delays. Choose your date's admission price, operating hours, and entry time first. If you arrive late, stay in Namba on day one and move the aquarium to day two only if there is time for both the visit and airport travel. Skip the next-day aquarium visit for a morning flight.
Day 2: Visit Namba Parks Garden from 10:00 AM
- Namba hotel → Second-floor Parks Garden entrance
From Midosuji Line Namba Station, follow signs toward Nankai Namba and Namba Parks. Official facility guidance lists about a seven-minute walk from Midosuji Line Namba and a direct connection from Nankai Namba. Distinguish these from the roughly 15-minute walk from JR Namba. Start at the second-floor garden entrance in the shopping complex, identified as “2F 緑のエントランスシンボル” in the official garden guide. Check the floor-by-floor guide for this entrance and the levels you want to walk.
- Parks Garden → A walk and a meal
The garden opens at 10:00 AM; shops and restaurants generally open at 11:00 AM. Walk first, then eat or shop if you have time. You do not have to climb through every garden level from the second to ninth floors. Rest on the third floor or choose upper levels to fit your time. In rain or strong winds, shorten the garden visit and switch to indoor dining or shopping after shops open. Follow facility notices for closures and individual shop exceptions.
- Namba Parks → Namba Station and departure
After your visit and meal, follow facility signs to the Nankai Namba connecting passage or toward Midosuji Line Namba. End your garden visit in time for your booked airport train or onward departure. Skip the garden for a morning departure.

Frequently asked questions
If I arrive late, can I move the castle or aquarium to day two?
Move it only if you can finish the visit, reach your departure station, and complete airline check-in in time. Check the castle's last admission and closures, or your date's aquarium hours and ticket time. Skip the paid visit for a morning flight or if time is too tight.
Is a Metro day pass cheaper for just a castle or aquarium round trip from Namba?
For a round trip to only one of these attractions, regular tickets cost less. Verified adult round trips are ¥480 between Namba and Tanimachi 4-chome, or ¥580 between Namba and Osakako. Both are below the ¥820 weekday pass or ¥620 Saturday, Sunday, and public-holiday pass, before attraction benefits. If adding other rides, compare all fares and actual benefits again.
