Choose a waterfall walk or tomb exhibitions

Choose three nights in Umeda for a walk to Minoh Falls, or three nights in Namba for Mozu tomb exhibitions and KAIYUKAN. A day visiting Nijo Castle or Arashiyama in Kyoto, or Kobe Port Tower, replaces the Minoh or Mozu day.

For Kyoto or Kobe, select round-trip JR trains from Osaka Station to Kyoto or Sannomiya. Check travel back from local attractions to the station and the return to the same Osaka hotel.

Minoh Walks and Views, Then Daytime Dotonbori Before Departure

For a day walking along a river to a waterfall, stay three nights in Umeda and visit Minoh. Take Hankyu trains to Minoh Station, then walk to the falls. This itinerary puts the observatory on day one, the waterfall on day two, and Osaka Castle on day three.

Day 1: Umeda hotel → KUCHU TEIEN → hotel

  1. Umeda hotel → JR Osaka Station and the dedicated Sky Building entrance

Arrive during the day and have lunch around Osaka Station. Leave JR Osaka Station through the third-floor Bridge Gate and head toward the Central North Exit. Take the escalators down to the second floor, then the first floor, and follow the side of Grand Front's South Building. Cross the intersection and pass through the short underpass of about 40 meters. Back at street level, the Sky Building is across the road. The official route from JR Osaka takes about seven minutes on foot, excluding hotel-to-station travel and building queues. Find the outdoor observatory entrance and distinguish it from the office tower elevators.

  2. Dedicated observatory entrance → Visit and return to your Umeda hotel

Visit the observatory and take a break in the afternoon, then return to the Osaka Station area for dinner and hotel check-in. Regular hours are 9:30 AM–10:30 PM, with admission until 10:00 PM. If you arrive late, move the observatory to after the castle on day three, checking admission cutoffs for both.

Day 2: Hankyu Osaka-umeda → Minoh Falls → Umeda

  1. Hankyu Osaka-umeda → Ishibashi handai-mae and Minoh

Finish your waterfall walk during daylight. Before leaving, check park restrictions, weather, and railway notices. If rain or restrictions make walking impractical, spend a rest day in Umeda. If moving the walk to tomorrow, check whether it would conflict with a castle closure. After breakfast, take a Hankyu Takarazuka Line train stopping at Ishibashi handai-mae, then transfer to the Minoh Line for Minoh.

  2. Minoh Station → Waterfall walk and return to the station

Ichinohashi at the park entrance is about five minutes from Minoh Station; the waterfall is about 40–50 minutes from the station in total. Do not add those two times together. Consider leaving in the morning, walking beside the river, and resting at the falls. Retrace the same trail to the station and eat nearby. Fatigue and breaks can make the return walk longer.

  3. Minoh Station → Ishibashi handai-mae and Umeda

After lunch and a break near the station, take the Minoh Line toward Ishibashi handai-mae, then transfer to the Takarazuka Line for Osaka-umeda. Choose outbound and return trains for your travel date in the official timetable before departure, and check platform destination signs when transferring.

  1. Umeda → Hommachi and Tanimachi 4-chome

Take the Midosuji Line south toward Hommachi, then transfer to the Chuo Line toward Nagata and Ikoma.

  2. Tanimachi 4-chome Exit 9 → Castle museum visit

Walk about 15–20 minutes from Exit 9 through Otemon Gate to the museum for a morning exhibition visit. Exhibitions usually take 50–60 minutes, or about 90 minutes for a closer look; ticket-line waits are extra.

  3. Castle museum and park → Return via Hommachi to Umeda

After lunch and a park break, return to the station and travel back via the Chuo Line to Hommachi and Midosuji Line to Umeda. If you missed the observatory on day one, visit after a meal in Umeda, allowing for travel and walking between the castle and observatory.

Day 4: Umeda → Dotonbori → Umeda Station → departure

  1. Umeda hotel → Namba and Dotonbori Riverwalk

For an afternoon departure, take the Midosuji Line toward Tennoji and Nakamozu to Namba, then walk about five minutes to the river.

  2. Dotonbori Riverwalk → Return to Umeda Station and departure

After a morning riverwalk and lunch in Namba, take the northbound Midosuji Line back toward Umeda. A morning walk does not guarantee that shops are open. Skip this last walk if you cannot fit the Namba round trip and travel to your departure station.

Mozu Tomb Exhibitions, the Aquarium, and a Departure-Day Garden

For more interest in history exhibitions and marine life than a waterfall walk, give the free Mozu exhibition and KAIYUKAN separate days. Stay three nights at the same Namba hotel and walk through the garden near the station on your final day.

Day 1: Namba hotel → Dotonbori → Namba hotel

  1. Namba hotel → Dotonbori Riverwalk

After lunch in Namba, head to the river. Follow street-level signs from subway Namba toward Ebisubashi and Dotonbori. The tourism bureau lists about five minutes on foot from Midosuji Line Namba Station; the walk from your hotel will differ.

  2. Dotonbori Riverwalk → Hotel check-in and dinner

See the riverfront and signs in the afternoon, then check in and rest before dinner. The riverwalk itself needs no attraction ticket, but food and cruises cost extra. If you arrive late, take only a short evening walk and keep tomorrow's Mozu exhibition time.

Day 2: Visit the Mozu exhibition, then return to your Namba hotel

  1. Namba hotel → Metro Tennoji and JR Hanwa Line

After breakfast, take the Midosuji Line toward Tennoji and Nakamozu. At Tennoji, leave the Metro gates and continue to the JR Hanwa Line platforms. Tickets for the two operators are separate.

Exhibitions and aerial footage show the tombs' overall shapes, which are difficult to see from ground level. You do not enter the tomb interiors.

  4. Visitor center → Optional exterior tomb visit and lunch

After checking on-site guidance at the center, you may choose a walk to the exterior worship area and surroundings of Nintoku-tenno-ryo Kofun. Sakai's roughly 10-minute walk to the tomb starts at Mozu Station, not the center. The Imperial Household Agency lists regular worship hours of 8:30 AM–5:00 PM. Access may be restricted on weekends, Japanese public holidays, December 29–January 3, or for events and management reasons; check your visit date's guidance. If access is restricted, finish with the exhibition. A full walk around the tomb, paid museums, bicycles, and aerial experiences are excluded from the basic itinerary. If attending a center event, search for a local train you can catch afterward; shorten the walk if your return is delayed.

Start at the shopping complex's second-floor garden entrance and return downstairs when your time is up; you do not need to see every level from the second to ninth floors. The garden is free and opens at 10:00 AM; shops and restaurants generally open at 11:00 AM.

Frequently asked questions

Does a subway day pass cover Minoh or Sakai?

Hankyu travel to Minoh and JR Hanwa Line travel in Sakai require separate fares. They differ from the pass's Metro and designated City Bus coverage.

Do I enter the tomb at Mozu?

The basic visit is the free visitor center exhibition. This itinerary does not enter Nintoku-tenno-ryo Kofun. The exterior worship area is optional depending on on-site access. If access is restricted, finish with the exhibition.

Does a JR pass cover all city travel when adding Kyoto or Kobe?

Calculate covered JR sections separately from local city transportation. Travel from your Osaka hotel to JR Osaka, onward from Kyoto or Kobe's Sannomiya to attractions, and the return also need separate checks. Metro, Hankyu to Minoh, and Kobe's City Loop are not all covered by the same JR pass. Compare regular tickets and passes after checking actual round-trip sections and validity dates.

Should I combine Kyoto and Kobe in the same day?

Choose one city first. This guide offers a day in Kyoto or Kobe replacing an existing Minoh or Mozu day. Allow time to visit attractions, use local transportation, and return to the same Osaka hotel. Do not put both cities and Osaka sightseeing into that one day.
