Four days in Osaka: choose a waterfall walk or burial mound exhibitions
Choose three nights in Umeda for a walk to Minoh Falls, or three nights in Namba for Mozu's exhibitions and Kaiyukan. A day at Kyoto's Nijo Castle or Arashiyama, or Kobe Port Tower, replaces the Minoh or Mozu day.
For a Kyoto or Kobe day trip, choose return JR trains between Osaka Station and Kyoto or Sannomiya for your travel date. Check the route back from the attraction to the station and the return to the same Osaka hotel.

Minoh walks and views, with departure-day Dotonbori
For a day following the river to a waterfall, choose three nights in Umeda with a Minoh trip. Take Hankyu to Minoh Station, then walk to the falls. The route visits the Floating Garden Observatory on day 1, the waterfall on day 2 and Osaka Castle on day 3.

For history displays and marine life rather than a waterfall walk, choose Mozu’s free exhibitions and Kaiyukan on separate days. Stay three nights at the same Namba hotel and finish with a station-area garden walk.

Day 1 | Umeda hotel → Floating Garden Observatory → hotel
- Umeda hotel → JR Osaka Station and Sky Building’s dedicated entrance
Arrive by day and have lunch near Osaka Station. Leave JR’s 3rd-floor Bridge Gate and head towards the Central North Gate. Take escalators down to the 2nd and then 1st floor, following Grand Front’s south building. Cross the road, pass through a short underpass of about 40 m and return to street level; Sky Building is across the road. The official JR-starting walk is about 7 minutes. Hotel-to-station travel and building queues are extra. Find the dedicated outside observatory entrance, distinct from office tower lifts.
- Dedicated observatory entrance → Visit and return to your Umeda hotel
Visit and rest in the afternoon, then return near Osaka Station for dinner and check-in. Regular hours are 09:30–22:30, admission until 22:00. After a late arrival, you can move the observatory to day 3 after the castle; check last admission for both.
Day 2 | Hankyu Osaka-Umeda → Minoh Falls → Umeda
- Hankyu Osaka-Umeda → Ishibashi handai-mae and Minoh
Finish the waterfall walk by day. Check park controls, weather and railway notices before leaving. If rain or controls prevent walking, make it a rest day in Umeda. To move it to tomorrow, also check castle closures. After breakfast, take a Takarazuka Line train stopping at Ishibashi handai-mae, then change there to the Minoh Line towards Minoh.

- Minoh Station → Ishibashi handai-mae and Umeda
After lunch and a break near the station, take the Minoh Line to Ishibashi handai-mae, then change to the Takarazuka Line towards Osaka-Umeda. Choose outward and return services in the official timetable before leaving. Check platform destination signs at the transfer.

Mozu burial mound exhibitions, aquarium and a departure-day garden

Day 1 | Namba hotel → Dotonbori → Namba hotel
- Namba hotel → Dotonbori riverside
After lunch in Namba, head to the riverside. Follow street-level signs from subway Namba towards Ebisubashi and Dotonbori. The tourism bureau gives about 5 minutes from Midosuji Line Namba; the walk from your hotel differs.
- Dotonbori riverside → Hotel check-in and dinner
See the riverside and signs in the afternoon, then check in, rest and have dinner. The walk needs no facility ticket; food and cruises cost extra. After a late arrival, keep to a short evening walk without reducing tomorrow’s Mozu exhibition time.
Day 2 | Mozu exhibitions, then back to your Namba hotel
Learn about burial mound shapes and history at the free visitor centre. The outside worship area is optional depending on local access. Have lunch, then return to your Namba hotel.

After reading the centre’s local guidance, you may choose to walk to the worship area outside Emperor Nintoku’s burial mound and its surroundings. Sakai City’s approximately 10-minute mound walk starts at Mozu Station, not the centre. Imperial Household Agency standard worship hours are 08:30–17:00. Weekends, Japanese public holidays, 29 December–3 January, events or management needs may restrict worship; check your date. If access is restricted, finish with the exhibitions. The full mound perimeter, paid museum, bicycles and balloon activities are excluded from the basic route. Choose an actually open lunch and rest location.

After exhibitions and lunch, return to Mozu. Directly from the centre, retrace the route 350 m east to the station. After an outside walk or restaurant stop, allow extra time from that location. - JR Tennoji → Metro Namba and the same hotel
Leave JR’s gates and follow Osaka Metro Midosuji Line signs to the Metro gates. Tickets are separate. Take a northbound train towards Namba and Umeda, get off at Namba and return to your booked hotel for dinner and rest. JR-to-Metro walks and waits, and the Namba-to-hotel route, are extra. This sightseeing day ends with a night at your Namba hotel.
Day 3 | Tempozan aquarium, then back to Namba
- Namba → Osakako Station and Kaiyukan
Eat in Namba in the morning, then leave for your reserved admission time. Take the Midosuji Line north towards Hommachi, change to the Chuo Line west towards Cosmosquare and Yumeshima, and get off at Osakako. From exit 1, follow Tempozan Marketplace/Ferris wheel signs for about 5 minutes to Kaiyukan. Re-entry after an outside meal is unavailable; eat before entry or after finishing the visit.
- Kaiyukan → Visiting and meal conditions
Official school-group material gives 90–120 minutes for one circuit. Allow longer for watching animals slowly and taking breaks. Hours vary by date; check both the operating calendar and your reserved admission time.
- Tempozan → Osakako, Hommachi and Namba hotel
Rest in Tempozan after the visit, then retrace your walk to Osakako exit 1. The approximately 5-minute walk excludes reaching the platform and waiting. Take the Chuo Line east towards Hommachi and Ikoma, change at Hommachi to the Midosuji Line towards Tennoji and Nakamozu, then get off at Namba and rest at your hotel.
Day 4 | Garden walk, then Namba Station
- Namba hotel → Parks Garden walk
Take a short garden walk. Official access from Midosuji Line Namba is about 7 minutes; use the connecting passage from Nankai Namba. Start at the complex’s 2nd-floor garden entrance and walk as time allows before coming down. You need not visit all levels from 2 to 9. The free garden opens at 10:00; shops and restaurants generally at 11:00.
- Parks Garden → Namba Station and departure
After walking, come down from the garden levels and follow signs to the Nankai Namba passage or towards Midosuji Line Namba. With time after 11:00, choose a meal or indoor shops. Skip the garden during bad weather or a closure, or for an early departure.

Frequently asked questions
Does the Metro one-day pass cover Minoh or Sakai?
Hankyu trains to Minoh and JR Hanwa Line trains in Sakai require separate fares. They are outside the Metro and designated City Bus coverage.
Does the Mozu visit enter the burial mound?
The main visit is to the free visitor centre exhibitions. The itinerary does not enter Emperor Nintoku's burial mound; the external worship area is optional and depends on access on the day. During restrictions, finish after the exhibitions.
Sakai City visitor centre admission, hours and accessSakai City
If adding Kyoto or Kobe, does a JR pass cover all city transport as well?
Calculate JR coverage and local transport at your destination separately. Journeys from your Osaka hotel to JR Osaka Station, and from Kyoto Station or Kobe's Sannomiya to attractions and back, require separate checks. Metro, Hankyu to Minoh and Kobe's City Loop are not all covered by the same JR pass. Compare ordinary tickets with passes after checking your actual return routes and valid dates.

Should I put Kyoto and Kobe into the same day?
Choose one city first. This guide offers a day in either Kyoto or Kobe in place of the existing Minoh or Mozu visit. Leave time to return to the same Osaka hotel after sightseeing and local transport; do not combine both cities and Osaka sightseeing in one day.
